How To remove a Bottom Bracket (BB)
How to Install a bottom bracket
    how to install cranks
    how to install pedals
    how to install adapters
The cranks that were installed in this tutorial were the Stranger Mass cranks that come in 165mm with a 24mm oversized spindle. The sprocket was a stock Cult Crew, and the pedals were the demolition pc pedals.

The “floating spacer” is called a bottom bracket spacer, it’s actually there to prevent over-tightening the cranks and crushing the bearings. It also improves smoothness in the bearings overall in my experience. If it isnt the right size, you gotta add a spacer or buy a different sized spacer. It makes the bearings last longer too

ummmm. I am a diesel mech. I have bearing pullers. No bearing is technically reusable as they are consumable items unless unsealed and rebuildable, only "financially" reusable if you cant shell out the cash for a replacement. Another excellent instruction video, keep it up guys.

@@AlfredoMancuso LOL, I have to add something about the spacer which goes between the bearings on the bottom bracket. Not using it can create a concave pressure on the center bearing race when tightening the crank bolts. This can cause an inexperienced mechanic to over torque their assembly and lower the quality of the rider’s experience and longevity and durability of the bottom bracket. Anyways, keep kicking ass man. You are a huge role model to riders of all ages.

  • @enorbz

So that middle spacer is used to preload the bottom bracket bearings. In the past you can measure the bottom bracket shell width and measure both bearings and what you have left is the size of the middle spacer. You can also use the smaller spacer to put inside the frame as well and the BB will spin smooth as butter unlike what was shown here it’s not good for the bearings to spin like that at all.
    Cheers!

dude i know this is a super old video, but i just installed a sealed american bottom bracket, 19mm, measured the crank shaft i have and it's 19mm, but it is super tight in the bottom bracket. so much so that it takes serious effort to spin the crank. i remeasured and it's definitely 19mm. i've only built 2 other old school bikes so i don't have much experience but zero problems with the other 2, and i didn't use the center piece, thanks
figured it out, one side of the bottom bracket wasn't fully seated. just updated in case someone else has this problem. should have been my first thought.

I used a railroad spike to get my bb out of my old frame to put it in my Sleeper. It works great

Don't use old bearings in new frames. You can stretch and warp shit. New headset and bb every frame that's brand new. Should also replace with brand new bearings every time but meh.

@@bmxriderforlife1234 I'm not a very hard rider especially back on the old frame. It was more I just grew out of it. The "old" bearings were still perfectly fine

@@squeezablemayonnaise8904 rewatch this video. Notice phu talks about cleaning.
And the loose bottom bracket shell?
Its not from weight its from bbs being replaced and using already installed bearings makes this worse. Why in the old days bb cups and headset cups often stayed with frames.

@@bmxriderforlife1234 I cleaned it and took great care of it. Im telling you dude the bb was almost new. I was young when I got the bike and didn't start riding hard until later and that's when I got the frame. It went in perfectly fine and I gurantee you 100% both the frame and bb are perfectly fine.

@@squeezablemayonnaise8904 AND IM TELLING YOU AS A PRO MECHANIC AT bike shop. installation is all it takes to fuck up the bearing enough to cause issues on the next frame. do what you will but its not best practice. bottom bracket shells are heat treated. bb bearing casings generally arent. you shave off part of the outside of the bearing installing it as well as do some "damage" to the frame on install. using a new bearing keeps shit snug the longest a bearing thats already slightly under sized can cause issues.
it doesnt matter how hard you ride. a toddler riding a bike with the same shit done to it bb wise can damage the frame and bb. bb who cares but a frame? id rather spend 40$ and assure the frame is good then a bearing being reused to save a few bucks.

Few others but like don't have to worry.
      16-45
That's on twenty inch wheels. 9-28 is best. Good for fakies on cassettes. Its once over geared so harder to pedal a tad but faster top speed.
