Great that a successful Malaysian piper is destroying the stereotype of low quality eastern bagpipes. Hopefully this will encourage more people in his region to consider taking up the pipes without having to pay western prices
Just ordered a set of RH01! Can't wait to spend my years piping with this amazing instrument made by an extremely passionate craftsmen! And thank you for this excellent review
I was looking forward to seeing Ronnie's pipes, and they did not disappoint! They sound as good as any pipes I've heard on recordings (if not better) and I even picked up a steady A⁶ overtone. I really liked the timbre on the practice chanter too. I was also impressed by Ronnie's thoughtfulness and attention to detail. You don't exactly need reeds or a company logo to make a good bagpipe, but Ronnie made them anyway - and he made them well. The same goes for small things that really are important, like packing. If this is Ronnie's starting point, I'm excited to see where he goes in the future.
Thank you so much for the great information about Ronnie Hein bagpipe i enjoy your youtube. I would like to take lesson from you. I am a beginner and committed to learn on how to play bagpipe
Although very tricky and difficult to tune up (I played cane reeds for decades..) cane reeds are stille the nicest bright and deep sound you can achieve in a good set of pipes.
OMGoodness! No one should ever want the high-A crow to go away!!! That sub harmonic buzz that accompanies a truly sweetly tuned High-A is a magic in and of itself. Some say it's the "fourth drone". I can honestly say those cane drone reeds have had some time already, they NEVER come up sounding like that from the start. Ahh, now that they've time to settle, my goodness don't those cane drones sound so clean? Yes, if I had my way I'd be cane drones all the time. And... Was that last bit Pachelbel's Cannon? On PIPES? NYCE!
I had set the cane drone reeds up by mouth off camera before that first strike in, so I was hoping they’d be close. That middle a few days later had continued to flatten, but it was still playing well if the top was tuning rather low on the pin.
Great Video Matt & The Pipes Sound Beautiful 👍👍👍May You Have A Happy New Year & May God Bless You & I Look Forward To The Next Video 🏴🏴🏴☘️☘️☘️🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪🙂🙂🙂
Awesome set of pipes. As for the drones, My favorite combo is ezeedrone tenors with a cane bass.A little more work on Highland wedding hornpipe and you be almost as good as Stuart Liddell,( not as good as the mouse piper himself though😉) Cameronian Rant on the other hand... Good luck once you start that one!
I recently got some Balance Tones High Resonance, they are now my favorite reeds. Flawless strike ins, harmonics top notch. I used to play mostly ezees and kinnairds edge. But Balnce Tones really hit the ball out of the park.
I just started saving for my next bagpipe, I'm wanting a Duncan Macrae for Christmas, but if I can I'll surely buy one of these instead, and buy the other later.
Hey Matt, what is the blowpipe length you use? Thanks for all your reviews. I am getting back into piping and starting to look into another set. Thanks
For the Hein pipes, you’ll have to go to his website: www.ronnieheinbagpipes.com Lone Star Piper is great source for Hardie/Henderson, as well as Henderson Imports, The Piper’s Hut, or J. Higgins…
Okay so I've been obsessed with bagpipes my whole life. Eventually I wanna learn. Total beginner question...say I'm tuning drones, is there a proper way to keep them going but shut up the chanter? I don't know how hard it is to shut that off and on haha. I know I've seen pipers quiet drones to tune, as you were doing here.
They are still highland bagpipes in the Scottish style, though calling them Scottish bagpipes may be a it misleading, but so would calling any highland bagpipe made in North America a "Scottish Bagpipe"...
I believe the RH04's with everything I have are £1040 (appr $1260 US) before shipping (but don't quote me on that!). That's with a blackwood chanter (with sole), a sheepskin bag, and a blackwood practice chanter.
@@MattWillisBagpiper OK because I’m trying to find affordable one and I seen one was like 500 as I’m a see if I can find a cheaper one that is still good you know
@@dylanpicquet8149 $500 is hard to find a good set. Maybe used but only if you know what to look for. I think those are the highest costing set Ronnie makes. So a set with less “bling” could be closer to your budget. And remember it includes everything you need.
Those pipes sounded very nice. It makes them very special because they were made by one person. Nice job Matt and especially nice job to Ronnie.
Ronnie is a super nice fellow! He’s always willing to pass on knowledge of his craft.
Great piper as well
Amazing review. Good job Ronnie, great to see the Sri Dasmesh Pipe Band getting more recognition.
Couldn't agree more!

I agree completely. 👍👍

Very talented young man the pipes look beautiful and sounds awesome with eather type of reeds I am leaning a little to the cane side
I like the sound of the ezedrone reeds. Just a personal taste I’m sure. No expert here.

Loving my Heins! Been my go-to bagpipe since receiving in December.

9 inch blowpipe on all my sets. And I’m 5’6” fwiw. Glad you found the channel!
Outstanding!!!!!
where do you buy bagpipes any sites specifically you'd recommend?
For the Hein pipes, you’ll have to go to his website: www.ronnieheinbagpipes.com

The chanter needs to be sounding when tuning the drones or the pressure won’t be correct…
Sound sweat matt.🙂

It appears the ronnie Hein website is down now 😢
What are those bagpipes called?

How much are Ronnie Hein bagpipes?
How much did this run price wise?
Not sure as these were given to me by Ronnie…
(“Kimmer ah tah u”) means how are you
Yeah their website is annoying, constantly “ no products match your selection” I don’t go on site to buy a bagpipe to play games.
It’s early on and he’s a one man operation. Please try and be patient 👍

Great question, Dylan... Thank you. Matt: Hello, and thank you for another great video. How much was shipping, if you recall?
Ciamar a tha thu is pronounced Kimmer a ha oo… sort of.

It's not string....its called hemp....!!!!
String is far more general. I tend to use polyester thread, and even our “hemp” is linen based…
