COA is mainly a continuous story of the beings of three companies based upon the introduction in COA2, and has been continuously connecting the human world to mythc/supernatural gods. So in other words, yes its basically a sequel

COA1 The pirates era revolved during the 1500s-1600s in history, COA2 steampunk is a fictional era but is speculated to be more inspired by 1700s industrial fashion, and COA3's fashion and technology is based upon mafia groups during the late 1800s etc. There's a COA theory video I recommend watching if you search up the COA lore explanation it helps a lot^^
As i can see, all Da Capo survivors are the Main Characters of COA (Norton COA 4, Melly COA 6, Frederick COA 7) so most likely Alice and Orpheus might be the main characters for COA 8
There are no main survivor characters in coa 6 or 5 or 3rd, I can agree that the main survivors in coa 4 is Norton and coa 7 is Fredrick, but for example Melly isn't main character in coa 6, only Wu Chang is.
