How to Upload Routes from Strava to Garmin Edge 130

- My Garmin Edge 500 stopped working after 9 years of use. I finally decided to get a new cycling computer but the new ones are huge. I decided to get a Gamin Edge 100 and here is my review. It does have navigation but is difficult to upload routes from Strava. I show here how to upload the routes from Strava to the Garmin Edge 130 using a computer and an iPhone.

I Just bought a Garmin Edge 130 Plus and I just learning how to operate it. One of my concerns is how to charge routes, so you’re video is so help full to me. I think the problems you had charging routes from Stravab are already solved with this new version.
Thanks for the tutorial! As someone who works in software I found the garmin process very frustrating but you help a ton! Exporting and importing maps has me wanting to just use garmin connect for my routes now :/
This is one of the lightest bike computers out there.
This is also the biggest pain in the butt to upload anything useful to.

You can avoid all of this hoopla by just copying the .gpx file straight to the NEWFILES folder of the Edge 130 over USB.
Thats how I always did with my edge 800
And of course, if you upload the file by Garmin Connect you wont get the Strava Live Segment alerts

I see that this was made a couple of years ago. Has Garmin improved in connecting with Strava navigation routes yet? Would I still need to follow all the steps?
Hello. Would this work....if you go for a bike ride without downloading maps the garmin will plot the route as you ride via navigation.....when you finish the ride does that route you've just completed save to the garmin for you to have the option to go and do it again
I have garmin linked to strava so as soon as I finish my activity it loads onto strava....could I download that route I've just done from strava to edge

is there ANY WAY to do this just over the app on the phone? Why doesnt Garminconnect on your phone have an "import" GPX button? I'm about to send this thing back for a refund over this.

I don't suppose you can help, I have just purchased my Garmin Edge 130, when I load a course the breadcrumb navigation line is not filled, a lot of the other videos on UA-cam have a solid black line in which they follow for the navigation.
Do you know if the no filled line can be changed to a solid?

Hello, I think it's the file you have. A route using GPS can either be coordinates (dots along a route) or an overlay (an actual path along a map). I'm assuming you have dots along a route hence there is no black line. Have you tried another route? Please let me know.

You can make up courses in the Garmin connect app on your smartphone now... but I guess you're deleting comments, that inform you of that... just to get views for this video. That's pretty sad. You're giving people outdated information.

Hey there. Thank for the info! One question for you though. Will I need to bring my phone with me for the strava segments to record, or can I leave it in the car and let the gps save the entire ride (like a phone normally would)?
Hello, you can leave your phone in your car after everything is synced. I would recommend looking at QuadLock for the phone though. It's a great case and mount for a phone and bicycle.
The reason you got the safari error page when you tried to send to device is because you don't have "Garmin express" downloaded on your device.
Hello, thank you for the reply. I actually did have express installed. It appears that in the newer versions of MacOS Garmin gave up on updating on their end and safari will no longer open the software. Can you confirm if you have the latest MacOS and it works?
