    I would absolutely buy this, actually i may be purchasing one in the next few weeks. I currently drive a 2016 Hyundai Elantra Limited and i absolutely love it. I live in Southern PA and I traded an AWD Subaru in for this car and was extremely worried about driving FWD in the winter but here we are in mid feburary and i can honestly say i have had zero problems with this car. It is amazing in the snow. The ONLY thing i do not like about the new model is the looks of it. I am in love with the looks of my car right now, the bold lines and especially the running lights outlining the headlights (Which I am VERY angry they did not carry that over to this model) but i am simply interested due to all the features i wanted but could not get with my car now. REALLLLLLYY gonna miss my running lights now though, they are so sexy at night. I also don't think the price is bad for all the features you get.

    I Currently drive a Hyundai 2016 Tucson. Love it. I also love that you reviewed an "every-man driver" car and not the usual six figure beauties you usually showcase.

    I currently drive a 2014 Hyundai Elantra Limited with the Tech Package, fully loaded, and I love it! Comfortable, efficient, quiet, affordable, and a great warranty! I've been asked by my dealer multiple times to trade up to the new 2017 Elantra Ultimate and I just can't see a reason to do it. Don't get me wrong, it's a great looking vehicle and you still get a ton of features for the money. But for about $3,000-$4,000 U.S. Dollars more, I can get a fully loaded Hyundai Sonata Limited with the Ultimate package. That car is a midsize sedan with the interior detentions of a large car, as measured by the EPA. So no, not looking to upgrade my 2014 Hyundai Elantra to the new 2017 especially when I get get a much, much larger vehicle for just a little bit more money.

    The Elentra sport with the 1.6 T is the best deal IMO. You get leather, driver assistance, better brakes, better suspension etc for a lot less than the limited edition.

    Excellent review. As a current Mazda driver and someone who commutes a fair distance each day, what will keep me from another Mazda is the lack of Android Auto / Apple Car Play.

    Man you asked the MOST important question I've never heard a reviewer ask...ever. "What do you currently drive?"..........I swear most serious reviewers step out of a Lamborghini and review an Elantra. I own this car, I love this car, I'd recommend this car. Am I going to take it to "track day?"....No......Am I going to take it on vacation? Yes.

    i bought a 2017 Elantra Limited, Ultimate ,Tech pkg for 21.5k in feb 2019 brand new off the showroom floor. It pays to buy a 2 year old brand new car if its got the right stuff. This car seems to have the right stuff ( everything). my wife loves it coming from a 99 cherokee with 200K+ miles.

    Did choose this, bought one a few days ago. Partly because Hyundai took good care of us after our 2013 was nearly totalled by flood water. You can't possibly overrate good service. We also appreciate our salesperson. All in all it's the best we could hope to get for the money we could afford to spend--couldn't go higher, didn't want to go cheaper.

    I just recently purchased a 2017 Hyundai elantra SE for 21k and it has almost everything the limited is equipped with and I love it. it does extremely well on mpg runs smooth I definitely feel the difference in driving modes and very spacious and the price I got it for I'd say it's a steal might not have 17' alloy wheels leather seats or sunroof but in LA it's probably best to have air conditioning than sunroof lol plus sun damage to leather seats if not well taken care of would suck! my elantra came with 2 different packages I believe the tech and popular package which i say is a big band for your buck. overall great car in my opinion

      I can assure you that your 21k Elantra hasn't a lot of things that the ultimate one.
      1. Leather seats
      2. Independent air conditioning temperature from driver to passenger
      3. Navigation system
      4. Infinity sound system with subwoofer
      5. Sunroof
      6. Seat memory
      7. Electronic seats
      8. Blind spots mirrors
      9. Collision camera (intelligent cruise control)
      10. SOS equipment in your mirror
      11. Reflection sensor in your mirror
      12. Gate buttons on the mirror (3 of them)
      13. Wheel headlights
      14. And a few things more.
      So basically you have the basic one with 16inches wheels and maybe intelligent key.
      Good day!

    Motoman,
    I struggle with this question you pose, and even after going to an auto show and sitting in cars like a Civic touring I can't decide to go all-in, check or hold.
    Currently own an '07 Accord V6 due for a timing belt, and it's paid off. Low gas prices make it compelling to ignore my 20mpg combined driving. At least for a while..
    To complicate further- it's this Elantra, the new Civic, or a lightly-used Genesis that are on my short list right now. That last one would be trading up..
    Comfort, refinement and value are the 3 pillars for me. Thoughts?

    On another note, I'm driving a 2009 Infiniti M - Would be looking to swap that out for a midsize sedan - they are much nicer and luxurious than they used to be and you pretty much get every option that you can get on entry and mid size luxury sedans now.

    I live in Los Angeles and currently drive a 2016 Jetta 1.8T. I would def throw in more money for an Audi A3 if I was in the market of buying a compact in this segment. that's a bit too much for a new redesigned Hyundai. People should really consider the fact that this is a new platform for this elantra and that it might have some early recall issues. I think it would be wiser to go with mid-cycle refreshed vehicles just for reliability concerns, then again it might depend on the manufacturer...
    Quick question motoman, how would you compare the overall driving dynamics and the throttle response with the new Elantra vs. my Jetta Sport 1.8T?

    I bought the 2015 elantra only because of the price base model . I paid extra for the air conditioning 35 dollars a week no interest 5 years 5000 buy out . IT WAS LIKE GETTING A CAR FOR FREE .I have had the car for 6 months put on 32000 kilometers no problems . the only complaint is small gas tank . the 6 sppeed manual is great and gives the car alot of power I loved the deal .

    If you can believe it, at $27,000, the new Elantra somewhat of a bargain in the C segment as far as loaded trim levels go. The new Civic tops off at $27,000 and the Focus and Mazda 3 can get near $30,000 fully loaded. If it was my money, I would get a fully loaded C segment car because I want all of the features. Sure, someone could spend a little more and get a CLA, but it won't have a rear camera or leather at that price. I live in Detroit and I drive a 2005 Ford Focus.

    27k is the msrp that is not what the car sells for. If you go on truecar and plug in incentives you know you qualify for you can get this car for 22 to 23k. That is a steal for a car that has a ton of options, a great warranty, and tremendous gas mileage!

    Im driving a 14 Elantra right now...definitely nothing to complaint about...
    Love driving it everyday...
    Therefore, I definitely buy one again with mid cycle update exterior...
    For pricing, I bought base model with everything I needed and front Projector Headlight. Extremely love it. Pricing is 15k with tax, it is a Affordable price point.
    However, 27k for Limited is too much.
    I won't buy car on MSRP by the way.
    True price for Elantra Limited is 23k-24k
    Hyundai has great value so just wait to get better price and incentive that I had on my car.

    I wanna see some of these videos redone forcing the testers to drive on ice and snow! Down a totally iced-over, steep and short off-ramp, from a cleared interstate where everybody was doing 70, down to a red light, with somebody's freaky old pickup truck with Flintstone-calibrated brakes, headed right for you. That's a real test!

    between a 2015 honda accord or the 2017 hyundai elantra, which one is more reliable even over 100k? im getting a new car next month and i'm choosing between those two. looking for reliability more than anything else, but i don't really like toyota's otherwise i'd get one. I've heard honda's have always been reliable, and hyundai's used to have a low reliability rate, so i'm really curious about the newer models that i've heard are better.

Now don't get me wrong if the lease is right and I can get a Gla to my liking for a tad bit pricier a month as in a $50 difference then I would go for the GLA but it doesn't have to be as loaded as the Elantra. I drive a '13 Elantra and i never thought I would buy a Hyundai but I am glad i did. Yeah its not the smoothest car but I do love the looks and styling of Hyundai. I also do agree that is a steep price point but not everyone will buy the top trim model, it still has loads of value and it has it where it counts. And if I am also correct the honda civic has a CVT and not a 6 speed... so that is all I need to say. Cant wait to see what they bring to the "Sport" table!

    Pretty steep for 27k....would it be worth waiting a couple years for depreciation???? Prob not, seems like a nice ride. But for the same Price range you could have a nice WRX, or even a VW GLI.... Seems like Hyundai is going in the right direction, but are they too late in the game?

      Maybe mazda 6 ?, people in SA usually try to buy a car that wouldn't bring up much headaches in terms of car service, prices and reliability, so toyota is it, but they pretty much strip down their cars equipments to the minimum, but mazda use better materials in the interiors and offer a bit less prices with better equipment, also if you would buy a mazda in sa its normal to book a two weeks appointment for a service, toyota on the other hand charge less service fees and you don't necessarily need to take an appointment, so people go with the less headache route.

    27k is what the sticker says, every companies now running incentives some more some less, as for Elantra you can get fully loaded one at around 24-25 but Hyundai is running 0% financing though......if you want to get the cheapest car in the segment, you can get Mitsubishi or Cruze

  • @1guyin10

    I don't think I could convince myself to spend that kind of money on an Elantra, especially when there will surely be a lower priced value package that gives you 70% of the goodies for a lot less money. That will still be a very nice compact car. There are a few people out there that would buy the top of the line model though so it is hard to criticize Hyundai for offering it.

  • @M3RRIH3W13
    @M3RRIH3W13 8 років тому

    $27K wasn't a number I was expecting for an Elantra. Maybe, $10K less be more appropriate price tag. This is a near perfect starter car for young people. It's a new car and there is a certain pride in owning a new car for youngsters. Then, they learn about resale value and realize those status symbol cars have better value. Is Hyundai is the high resale value class, yet? I don't think so. Our local dealer is always having a blow out sale for them.
    This is a car that I would be happy for my daughter or son toown. It's safe, reliable, has a lot of tech toys, and it's a good car. However, I wouldn't recommend they pay the asking price. Kia is the little brother to Hyundai, and I would shop the Soul and Forte. Hyundai tried the upscale with the Equus and didn't factor in the time it takes to become a prestige brand. The Elantra is not a prestige Forte. I liked the review, I liked the tech, this car took a jump, but you can't price like the market leaders without the history.

  • @BYSMA4th
    @BYSMA4th 8 років тому

    27k is a lot of money for a C segment car... though I must say that the modern crop of C segment cars have made significant improvements from 10-15 years ago. That being said, if you are thinking of cross shopping this versus spending a little bit more to get a Merc CLA, I'd say get the Elantra and don't look back.
    With the CLA you'd be getting the absolute cheapest car made by the company with nothing on it (forget heated seats, you won't get electric seats). The CLA is an absolute sham of a car for folks who want a Mercedes badge to show off.
    As for me...I live in Arizona and drive a 2012 BMW 328i. Bought it used for about the same amount of money you'd be spending on that Elantra... I don't have all the tech goodies that the Elantra has (heated seats for instance, not needed in the desert :P) but the driving dynamics paired with the comfy suspension on the highway sealed the deal for me.

    To answer your question, I would get an 27000 hyundai fully equippe. You can't juste throw a couple of $$$$ to get a luxury car. You would have to throw a lot of money to get the same equippement. I've test drove the car and let's juste say I was alergic to Hyundai before, but now I think they have come a long way in quality.

    I have actually been looking at this segment and you have to spend a lot more on GLA or CLA to get something comparable to a fully spec'd Elantra or Mazda 3. For instance to get a GLA spec'd similar to a Mazda 3 s grand touring, it costs $42,000. Now for that you do get 'real' leather seats, vs Mazda's bonded leather faced seats with vinyl trim. You also get a car that is quieter and you don't have to rip out your rain rails to install a roof rack. However, $15,000 for a little more power and quiet is a pretty steep jump.
    Going into this shopping trip, I thought I was just going to get a GTI and be done with it, but talking to GTI owners and reading reports has me seriously questioning their reliability. While I seriously wish Mazda would release a more powerful 3, I already have two sports cars and I am buying this for carrying stuff and practicality not weekend canyon carving. I considered BMW, MB and Audi, because the cost isn't that big of a deal for me... but I the more I looked at their offerings vs Mazda or VW, I just couldn't help but notice the huge price jump versus marginal gain. I think MB et. al. really need to go back to the drawing board and come up with something more competitive to the Hyundai and Mazda, because at this point that they are falling behind the curve.

      I should add that $42K is a fanciful number as MB dealers don't seem to order many entry level cars with leather. MB-Tex is the only option for all CLA and GLA models at my local MB dealers, even on models with $46k MSRP tags. Mind you MB-Tex seems perfectly fine and I doubt most people wouldn't know it's not leather, but for $46k that is a lot to spend and still get a pleather interior.

    Yeah, for 27k I would go with the mid version of the Honda Civic Turbo... The EX-T (1.5 liter turbo with 174 hp) with Honda Sensing and still throw in about 5-7 dealer accessories and be at or under 27k. I would be getting a Honda with a bigger engine and better EPA mileage ratings also for that 27k. Now a major plus for Hyundai is their warranty, they hands down beat everyone by either mileage or years in every department you look at, so Hyundai's warranty is far superior.

    • @DHGroove
      @DHGroove 8 років тому

      +Michael Agostino Agree, the package costs on the limited are steep, and the EX-T Civic really shines in comparison. However, it appears Honda is having some engine issues with the 2.0. Hopefully the new 1.5T won't have those first year jitters.

    big secret? Hyundai sells the Kia Cee'd in Europe with a turbo and independent rear suspension plus anti-sway bar. like they did with the i30/elantra gt, they can bring it over here, change the light bulbs and a few panels, and sell it as the new elantra sport! they are already selling the i20 there which will become the 2017 accent here. the rebadged kia soul based ix25 will come over here as the Hyundai cuv to take on the hrv, Mazda cuv , Chevy cuv, Buick encore, etc.

    • @근육돌이밥이
      @근육돌이밥이 8 років тому

      no they are different, engine is same but those who tested say they feel totally different. Elantra sport feels much quicker and better balanced especially on corners and high speed. I don't know what they did different but every one of them say Elantra feels 10x better.

    • @jrs9264
      @jrs9264 8 років тому

      +Toci Aie European buyers put a much higher priority on handling than here in thev
      usa. we have much more straight roads and greater distances than Europe. I would expect them to have stiffer settings in Europe while our versions get more softer ride settings.

    • @근육돌이밥이
      @근육돌이밥이 8 років тому

      the difference is that they put multi-link suspension in the back of Elantra and Kia ceed is based on older platform than new elantra that came out just a few months ago which was tuned differently. And for Europe, i30 is on the way which share the same platform with Elantra so that's what makes it different.As for handling, they say while it is still not the best, but it's the best Hyundai built. let's see how it comes out.

    I am shopping this segment now to replace my 2012 MINI Coupe. 27K doesn't sound so unreasonable given all you get. Why spend $5k+ more on a MB? Your MB will cost more to maintain and will probably need premium gas. I'll be comparing this Elantra to the new Civic and Cruze among other things.

    I love your reviews and geeking out in detail about cars, but I feel like it's wasted on a car like this. Most people who buy the Elantra don't really care about cars and buy it just for getting from point a to b. It's like getting excited for an appliance (e.g., toaster). Keep up the good work though and I hope you'll review more exciting cars soon.

    • @MotoManTV
      @MotoManTV  8 років тому

      +dcharizard91 TOTALLY respect where you are coming from, however disagree on this point. It was this car and the Sonata that Hyundai proved to the world that people - no matter the segment - do indeed buy cars based on design, not just price. As you have seen me go on about construction methods, materials, design and engineering in many episodes over many cars, I feel it important to present a blend of cars - not just Mercedes, Porsche or in my case, Lotus. We learned a lot from that Cadillac CT6 construction method, and there were some lessons here as well. That said, how about the BMW M2 from Laguna Seca?

    • @dcharizard91
      @dcharizard91 8 років тому

      +MotoManTV I enjoyed your other segments, including the CT6, but just feel that the Elantra is too low on the car totem pole for your detailed and awesome reviews. But I get that you're trying to appeal to a larger audience. Trying to get you into nicer cars more often ;)

    My dad had an 86 Exel and although I have fond memories of cruising the Jersey shore,.... it was junk. Matter of fact to see one still on the road today is a rarity. So excuse my hesitant reaction to pay that kind of money for a Hyundai. I do understand Hyundai has improved greatly, but I still see Hyundai as a budget option, not a first choice. Maybe the Excel ruined my opinion of Hyundai but it's hard to forget that the company got started building junk.

    I have an elantra. a 2010 touring model with manual transmission. it has 110 000 miles on the odometer, and has never had any problems. none. it is a tank. I have driven to Radisson in northern Quebec, Labrador city, happy valley goose bay and all across Quebec and Ontario. I hope they will upgrade the elantra gt too. they are very tough cars. my elantra has survived 6 winters with many -40 celcius temperature and colder. it has always started and I have no block heater. I use penzoil platinum. it is good for -51 celcius. previously I have had 2 gmc pickups and they were total garbage. very unreliable. I was at the garage every 2 months with these gmc trucks. when you cannot afford to have a servant that goes to the garage with your unreliable luxury cars, a Hyundai makes a lot of sense. my friend has a Mercedes gl and that thing spend more time at the garage, than on the road. of course it is an amazing suv, but reliability is very lemon like. just because a vehicule cost a bazillion dollar, does not mean it's reliable. the Toyota yaris is a prime exemple. yaris last longer than plutonium. the only luxury cars I would trust are lexus cars.

    Hahaha, I thought you said 27k, 27k? As in TWENTY SEVEN THOUSAND ? American Dollars?????? That's a lot of money for an Elentra!
    There's no way in hell I'd pay that much for an Elentra… you can get a loaded Sonata 2.4 here for an equivalent of 23000 dollars! Someone in Seoul is clearly smoking cheap crack!
    I'd definitely shop for something else, according to a quick eBay search, a used Cadillac ATS (all kinds of Specs) is in the mid 20s!!! And if you don't mind an older car … The OG CTS V goes for less than 20! 400hp 6L V8 6spd RWD 5seater for less than 20 grand!!! And there's also the Mopar way, used SRTs are an excellent option … saw an '11 300 SRT for about 26k a few months ago.
    As for Scion …. I'm sure you heard they are no longer with us by now
    As always, excellent work MotoMan

    • @MotoManTV
      @MotoManTV  8 років тому

      +IceDree You know I LOVE Ralph et al, but there is no way on earth I would buy a used SRT . . . Even they know from the factory there are issues if you look at the very limited warranty from the get go. As for the second hand ATS . . . a VERY interesting alternative I didn't consider . . .

    • @IceDree
      @IceDree 8 років тому

      I completely agree with you.
      As much as love SRTs & fantasize about em everyday... If i have the cash, I'd spend it on something else. It would be painful to do so as the Viper & Challenger are among my favorite cars ... FCA products are fragile (that's one word for it) & the FCA importer\dealer here is infamously known for incompetence ... Which makes it even worse to own an FCA product. (Maserati & Ferrari are imported by a different company though)

    having lotus tune a cheap torsion beam suspension without a rear anti-sway bar is like putting lipstick on a pig. for $10,000 LESS than this car, you can get a turbo jetta with IRS and rear anti-sway bar. hyundai's own gt has better gdi engine, better rear suspension and far less hard plastic interior for thousands less than this limited sedan. unwarranted penny pinching by Hyundai desguised by cosmetic changes. charge more for less does not fool savvy buyers.
