Hello Scotty and all. This is my car, 2015 Chevrolet Impala light blue car. It got totaled in December 9, 2023 tornado here in Clarksville, TN by a tree that fell on it. I changed the fuel injectors myself using ALLDATA and I smelled no more fuel smell in the car. Car was paid off and life throws us unexpected things, so I am greatful to be here for another day. Still soldiering here at Fort Campbell, KY with 8 years of service.

I too am very annoyed when a seller is intentionally dishonest. They say one thing, but they do something else! I wouldn't believe them to do what's right if they have a track record from the get go of being unreliable, telling me one thing and doing something else. Love your videos. This car is proof that most decent cars can last IF, YOU JUST LOOK AFTER THE MAINTENACE!!!
Too bad they used crappy injectors....
Still, in Canada that 2000.00 dollar repair bill is peanuts compared to the cost of a used car that still won't pass the safety inspection.

I bought a 2007 Caddy years ago. It had I think 120,000 miles on it. Interior was like new. Adaptive cruise control and the works. It didn't even make it to the first oil change when the car was totaled in an accident. I wasn't hurt at all.
The insurance guy called. Asked about the mileage. It turned out that in Miami the car lost 100,000 miles. Someone rolled it back electronically he said. They also suspected the car had water damage and is why the interior was like new. It was new. The place I bought it from when the investigator showed up was empty. No desks, no chairs, nothing inside. Those guys were long gone. Everybody knew nothing about it.
For a car that had 220,000 miles on it, it ran great. I ended up with more money than I paid for the car. Could have been worse.
Carfax would have helped me that time.

Had an Audi S6, left it with the mechanics six times for extreme gasoline smell sometimes. Finally left it with the mechanic said you use it. After two days he called to say we all thought you were crazy and then I smelled the gas. Turns out, the fuel line was sweating gas into the cabin. At first Audie said it was my responsibility. They then went ahead and fixed it no charge.

I had a 96 Pontiac Sunfire 2.2 Liter OHV with 165k miles. It developed a strong gas smell as well with no visible leaks on the ground. I drove it like that for a few years. I was broke back then and couldn't afford to fix it. I sold it for $1000 back in 2/2011, it ran and drove fine like this guys chevy. oddly enough, I had 2/3 of my right lung removed because of a lung tumor and was coughing up blood in 9/2010. Sometimes I wonder if the gasoline smell from that car for several years caused my lung tumor. I was never sick that bad before, I was only 33 years old at the time and almost died on the ventilator. After recovery, now with one good lung left that 96 Pontiac Sunfire had to go. I disclosed the gas smell to the buyer and he bought it. This car in scotty's video made me ponder this.

Thanks Scotty for all the great vids and all the years of great knowledge.

Back in 1998 I leased a new Chevrolet full size work van (in Canada). After a month or so we noticed the speed gage and odometer was in miles. We had driven 5000 miles. The correct gage assembly should have been in Kilometres. Because it was still a new van under warranty GM changed out the speedo and odometer assembly to a new correct metric gage assembly. And thus the odometer was zero kilometres. Even though the van had driven 5000 miles.

Will lose some coolant thru the pressure release in the overflow. We changed thermostat water pump and all intake gaskets. ? Frustrated my mechanic thinks it’s the head gasket. Any thoughts? thanks again Scotty!

On OBDII tester, even a cheaper one, you can check the number of operating hours on the engine. Thieves might mess with odometer, they won't go through the difficulty of changing or flashing the PCM. There are references for average hours for mileage ranges. Operating hours tells you how much work the engine has on it, what if the owner sat idling a lot? Aircraft, for example, do their maintenance based on operating hours.

My father bought a 96 Crown Vic from a big dealer in 98, and we looked that car over closely, and there wasn't so much as a stain or scratch anywhere. 2 yrs later, we received a letter from the state of NJ stating that the car's odometer had been tampered by a criminal ring, and the true mileage was 92,000, and not 27,000 as originally thought. We have been receiving compensation checks yearly since that letter. Point being, is that we thought that we checked that car throughly but were fooled anyway. In spite of it, my parents towed a trailer with that car for years!

All the ridiculously cheap plastic parts found on American cars is why I moved over to Toyota years ago. I want to support American car companies so bad but they are the worst when it comes to planned obsolesce and the service bay being where their bread is illicitly buttered. That all being said all the rest are now copying that business model because capitalism aka "the market" demands it.
We really need to pass extremely strong right-to-repair laws and force companies to actually make durable goods repairable and even possibly some non-durable goods.

8:30 Hey Scotty, what about adding one stick of two-part JB Weld to a full tank of gas and then driving on a 400 mile highway trip? The JB Weld will circulate thru the fuel system and seal all the leaks from the inside out, right? Much cheaper fix. Is it worth a try? What could go wrong?

Haha... I love it- @13:30 the word that popped into my mind was 'nefarious', and just a few seconds later, SK said how 'Nefarious' the use of odometer tools can be! What a channel... Cheers!
(Edit- Also, maybe I'm outdated/old school/just old, but I still write down my odometer reading and the amount of gas I put in (and the price) every time I tank up, and record oil/fluid/filter changes too, in the notebook I keep by the Chilton book and Thomas Guide in my cars... I suppose it's because of how my father and grandfather put the fear of God into me re: the importance of recording things. (Like, allways save a recipt, etc). Though, I don't keep track of washer fluid, wiper blades, and tire pressure like my dad (the accountant) did (on an Excell spreadsheet!)
    Ah, memories... Cheers!

It might very well be old-school, but who cares? I also like to log all my vehicle maintenance/repairs and fuel-ups in an excel spreadsheet. Makes things much easier to keep track of since I do the vast majority of my car maintenence and repairs myself. Logging everything is definitely crucial.

Back in the 80's I got a speeding ticket. I paid a Toyota mechanic to move my speedometer needle down below the zero. Then I had it calibrated by radar to show that the needle was at the correct speed even though I was speeding. Got the ticket thrown out. Also he said he could change the odometer. I said no thanks.

Scotty, I noticed something on my 2009 Pontiac Vibe GT that I bought new in 08. The odometer and speedometer are off by 3 miles per hour. Checking the odometer with mile markers, it's off by 3/10 of a mile. It's always been that way. I suspect it's because pontiac used a different size wheel than the non-GT model. This error means that my Vibe has traveled less than the odometer has recorded. It has 130k on it, but has less than 100k actual miles. Am I crazy for thinking this is an issue? Is there any way to fix this?

Outbacks? Are they expensive to get fixed?
I’m 60. My next car purchase may be my last.
I like sporty, good pickup. Gas mileage doesn’t matter that much. But I’m not a guy who can, or ever will have a 911.
Used to do advertising for Toyota, Hyundai and Cadillac.
All the engineers at Cadillac drive 911s saying it was the perfect car inside and out.
Can’t afford it. Wish I could.
In the meantime, maybe you could recommend something in the 30K ish range. That will make me happy until I die? Which I calculate to be in 25ish years.

O and if you do mount a toggle switched fan, Use a relay then just run the grounding signal inside the Vehicle to the switch for supplying a ground for the relay, Why because if that wire were to get damaged the fans would just come on instead of blowing a fuse, Mount a Fuse at the battery for the relay power source, This way you can use a very light duty switch for turning it on. It's how I wire Fog lights or anything else, And you can find a key on only power source hook it to the relay + signal the switch being the - Fan power source the battery fused and the ground for the fan battery or good frame ground, Everyone should learn how to wire Relays it actually simple if you look and learn, In this case a Four pin relay is all that's needed, A five pin does even cooler things most are five pin with the fifth not being used in many cases. Look up simple 12 volt relay diagram or You Tuber would also explain it if you don't know how, Good day.

I have a 96 Chevy Lumina APV van, 306k miles, 3400 V6, metal fuel rail. Over the years, I've had to replace the fuel pressure regulator a few times. As it starts going bad, the internal vacuum diafram starts leaking gas into the vacuum system with a gas smell. Just something else you might want to check.

Had a 2002 Impala, purchased from rental car company. Good thing I bought the extended warranty, the transmission blew, engine blew, steering linkage failed. All of this before 15,000 miles! Pile of junk. New trans new engine and steering linkage,
Then trade it in on a Ford Custom Conversion Van, was a good but guzzling van for 6 years before it was traded to another car. Impala was awful.
