Gillian’s hairstyle in the interview suits her amazingly. She looks gorgeous. Chills with her Thatcher accent.
Interesting how Gillian Anderson's accent drifted from English to American towards the end.
kyra mia she’s bidialectal since she was born in the US but grew up in London. Apparently she occasionally switches accents subconsciously.
Gillian’s Thatcher is perfect!
I'm laughing my ass off by what probably is Olivia's husband at 7:22 reaching out for somthing, lying on the floor, struggling, in order to no appear on screen ahahahah beautiful this life of videochats ahahah
I laughed too. He thought we couldn't see him... hilarious.
thanks for pointing that out!!
Haha! I thought it must be a dog moving in the background the first time I saw it, but you’re right!😂
How did you see that! Lol
Looks like a kid
My goodness. I've been replaying this (The Crown trailers for season 4) over & over & over again. The scenes are just awe inspiring. I've always loved Margaret Thatcher.
Gillian is simply brilliant! I urge you to watch her in "Bleak House", one of her best.
Gillian Anderson was absolutely sumptuous in House. of Mirth!
I am returning to this video as Stephen, Olivia and Gillian have ALL just won Emmys in 2021. Congratulations to all 3 of them. Well and truly deserved. The Crown is a phenomenal show and Colbert, you have kept me laughing during a time where there's not much to laugh about.
Gilian is deserving of any accolades from the clips we've seen so far
I love Olivia Colman very much. I was an addict for Broadchurch.
But I have to say that in The Crown she does not sound at all like E2R.
The moment Steven introduce them I had my audience screaming on!! Love these two wonderful woman! ❤️❤️❤️
I love when you can hear Gillian’s American twang coming through every now and then
She actually sounds like a standard northeastern American accent.
Wasn't sure which accent Gillian was going to do for this interview!!
'ears' - just so funny, and true.
Olivia looks like Claire Foy’s older sister here.
that's why they chose her
I thought they’d already chosen their Queen?
she wouldve looked like Elizabeths older sister Margarette
If you ever wonder what Britain thought of Thatcher, the newspaper headlines when she died were "The Witch Is Dead!"
We thought highly enough of her to return her with three landslide election victories.
I love the house band collage!
Lock me down with those X-files and teach me a thing or two Queen Gillian❤️
We in the UK always called Margaret Thatcher 'Thatcher the milk snatcher' after she stopped kids in preschool getting a milk carton at break.
That was Labour in 1977.
Fortunately, Gillian doesn't look and sound enough like Margaret Thatcher to be genuinely creepy. Some past impersonations have been terrifyingly true-to-life. My own was close enough for a few friends to ask me to stop doing it! Steve Nallon's, back in the eighties, was terrific.
Jeez! Two incredibly beautiful women! Wow!
Infinitely lovely... 💜
Olivia is one of the Brits that is totally unbothered by the Royals in real life.
Dear God Gillian Anderson is wayyyy too good at that accent.
A better monarch than we are going to get
Gillian started this interview as british and ended it as just about American
Can't blame her for that. She lives in England, so naturally started with her everyday British accent, but Stephen's American accent was in her ear, and she naturally started to switch. That's what happens sometimes with people who are bidialectal. Their ear triggers their accent, but it's not a choice, it's an automatic response.
I’m rly only watching this season for Gillian lol
Billy jo-el lol
Not only has Gillian gotten more accomplished and skilled as an actor with age, but somehow she got more beautiful... How is she more stunning now???
Other than the awful hair color!
Her bone structure and features are more refined somehow, and she seems more self-assured which is so sexy.
plastic surgery. It's not rocket science.

@@lindaslattery8341 it is what it is. That's what celebrities do.
Olivia Colman is an utter gem. Her performance in Broadchurch was absolutely heartbreaking. One of the finest actors ever to have graced the screen.
Couldn't agree more. And her personality and humour are awesome. 😅
@@christopherbrown5644 haha
She was incredible as the Queen...but so much younger and prettier in person...and nicer!
@@dianawest3976 I can imagine!
I genuinely fell in love with British drama from her
Did I Enjoy this interview? Ears I did!

There are two types of bank note that the British aristocracy think are amphibians. The "Tyne pond newt" and the "Fife pond newt"
@@philipwilliams5808 that would be ten pined nate and five pined nate.
Very clever! 😂👍🏼
Eeaarrs. I quite agree with you. 😂 LOL :D
I was an extra on The Crown, in season 4. Couple of things; Olivia Coleman was awesome, really friendly and chatty. Absolutely *loved* her. But seeing Gillian Anderson was a weird feeling. On the one hand, I was geeking out thinking, "I'm in a scene with Dana Scullyyyyyyyyyy!!!!" And at the same time, she was terrifyingly so much like Thatcher, that I had to resist the urge to spit in her face. That's how incredible her performance was.
Oh wow! Did Gillian ever break character between scenes? Any bloopers?
thatcher is gross, don't blame you
You must be a communist.
@@zurzakne-etra7069 she was great.

the way Gillian drops in and out of English and American accents
Living over there for years now, I am sure she picked it up by emersion.
Shes bidialectal indeed
The same thing happens to me when I am around my family. It's an uncontrollable switch in the brain.
She also lived in London as a child for a few years .
@@WellnessRosterHQ Lol. She's British originally. haha
The way Olivia doesn't even care about the royals 😂
Interesting how Gillian Anderson's accent drifted from English to American towards the end.
And she’s played three queens already 🤣🤣
No different than a local not caring about the tourist attractions of their own hometown, I would think.
Like she said, they're just "there" and it's part of the country you grow up in. I live in Melbourne and think it's funny seeing people take pics of Flinders St station, Parliament House, Hosier Lane and I'm like huh, interesting...
@@seanmaloney2637 i remember something like she used to live between england and america so she unconciously switches between the accents, i don't remember the term though.
That final scene between the Queen and Thatcher...MY GOD. What a treat to have these two playing scenes with each other. Amazing actors and women!
She's brilliant as Margret Thatcher
How dare they make me be attracted to Margaret Thatcher!
Haha
You should see her Miss Haversham!
Lol
Evil can be quite attractive.
@@mori1bund then I'm sure they wouldn't be attracted to her since she was anything but.
Gillian is brilliant in the crown . I’m sure she is going to be notice . Of course Olivia Coleman is a wonderful actress but Gillian Anderson trapped me in this season .
Can't agree more. She's incredible in the role, and in general. I wouldn't miss anything she does on screen. As for Olivia Coleman as the queen: I think she comes across as very human and even witty and warm. Of course, she's enmeshed in proper "form" etc. but we end up loving her in The Crown, despite her rigid views on royal protocol, which often effects others negatively. I don't feel rigidity in this portrayal.
She completely disappears... it’s amazing!
She's THAT good
I love Gillian, but her overly breathy voice and turtle paced way of speaking was off putting.
Watch her interview "a conversation with Thatcher". She sounds nothing like her portrayal.
She looked like a tortoise
I clicked this to see if Gillian was going to be speaking with a British or American accent cuz I know she switches up sometimes
With jimmy kimmel she was full blooded American , and here she is British. Being American Actually she is born in uk and spends time both sides of the pond.
Hot diggidy dang! Sculls just gets more n more beautiful with each day.
Even Gillian can't make Thatcher attractive though ☺
Lol
Gillian Anderson doesn't grow older, she transforms and evolves.
@@simonfrederiksen104 Precisely so!
Interesting how Gillian Anderson's accent drifted from English to American towards the end.
Well, she's bidialectal
Watch her appearance on Jimmy Kimmel from last night's show where she explains the reasons.
I wish she'd just stick with British. We can understand it just fine.
@@Wiley_Coyote it's literally not done consciously hahaha as someone who's bidialectal, i don't realise i've switched accents until someone points it out. it just starts to change naturally depending on who i'm talking to or where i am at
I wondered why she didn't have her American accent during the entire interview considering it's American talk show. I guess she forgot.
Gillian's "characters" at 7:45 and 9:05 really shows how she switches between British and American accents while talking
Anyone else notice how Gillian’s accent drifted into American a lil at the end? I love how she fluently blends the two, gives her such a unique stunning voice 🥰🥰
Gillian lived in London up until she was 11, but then moved to Michigan. so she can do both British and American accents!
Transatlantic accent at its finest.
"Mine is bigger than hers!" .. Gillian, if I had a nickel..
I've had a crush on Gillian Anderson since the X-Files, and damn she just keeps getting better looking. And Olivia is soooo good, and sweet, and has a beautiful smile. I've seen her in so many serious roles but, I love her character in 'Hot Fuzz'. She's one of my favorite British actors. If she's in it, it's 100% worth watching.
England is indeed locked down. Scotland and Wales aren't.
Loved her in Broadchurch and Night Manager.
Everyone talking about Gillian but im here for Olivia 💜💜
7:25
sneaky hand at the bottom left
I thought it was a dog in the background lol
hahaha you spotted it too
More like sneaky man!
Looked like her husband lol
What was that? lol
It's really too bad Stephen Hawking passed away before unraveling the mystery that is Gillian Andersons ageing process.
Beautifully said. 😊
I didn't read the "Haw" and had a mini heart attack....
she looks better than most 30 year olds i know
She looks better than *she* looked at 30!
Money. Lots of Money.
Seeing Gillian Anderson as Margaret Thatcher - Talk about mixed emotions.
"Margaret Thatcher naked on a cold day" may not work anymore.
@@taavetti80 Never was my pick for stamina in the heat of the moment, but I get your point.
Olivia played Thatchers daughter
Really? When?
@@markmh835 In the film The Iron Lady starring by Meryl Streep
Completely forgot about that!
Omg yeah
Of course - I had completely forgotten that
Gillian's Thatcher is so entirely on point. The voice is uncanny.
Gillian Anderson's Thatcher is spot, she makes Meryl Streep look and sound like the Spitting Image version.
All 3 are spot on
Yes o__o ! I just saw her performance here on this video for the first time and it was incredible
Spitting image means the exact same so I don’t get your point?

If you like Gillian Anderson, check out Hannibal the tv series. She plays a marvelous role in that show. It is a psychological thriller with dark themes. That interpretation of Hannibal is very classy, actually.
Wow, the show was amazing and then they introduced her, blew my mind.
The fall , and sex education on Netflix i watched them just to see her !!!
Olivia Colman is a delight... what a beautiful lovely woman.
Who was the guy on the floor behind Olivia Coleman at 7:22?!? Was he reaching for a beer? He didn't seem to have clothes on. 😃 What was happening at Coleman's house during this interview? She was smiling rather a lot. I am intrigued.
Yeah even I noticed that...🤣
I mean it's just his arm, so probably not naked! Also probably her husband. Sorry not sure here's much gossip there! 😂
Just LOVE Colman; LOVE her.
Gillian is very nice too.
I will never stop loving Scully.
"pretty much like having a stroke..." LOL
Very interesting. Gillian Anderson I always found as a turn on. Never imagined she could be such a turn off as Maggie Thatcher. So therefore perfect acting again.

One of the things I've always loved about Gillian, is how she naturally flows from her English accent to American depending on who she's speaking to.
Been a fan since X-Files pilot and am always absolutely thrilled to see she's still acting ^_^
She's amazing in Hannibal if you haven't seen it yet
I also loved her in The Fall.
Check out Sex Education on Netflix. Very funny.
She had a supporting role in _American Gods_ as well.
A joke you Americans might not have heard was that Margaret Thatcher was the only prime minister where, when she died, they pointed the 21 gun salute at the coffin.
We also cremated her. Just to be on the safe side.
Yes, Margaret Thatcher was so hated by absolutely everyone in the UK that she never lost an election.
Ding dong the witch is dead, (wizard of Oz). Got to number 1 in the charts when she kicked the bucket, true story, lol.
Even funnier, the bbc had to play it (part of it) on Top of the Pops.. For the first week anyways, wouldn't play it again after that😁.
I heard they buried her upside down "just in case" 😅
Just adore Olivia !

Olivia Colman is just so delightful! Love her.
I just love how Gillian started with a British accent with Oliva and ended up saying the last sentence in her American accent
Any normal human being, straight, gay or otherwise would marry Gillian Anderson in a heartbeat.
That Thatcher made my skin crawl...Remove itself entirely...order a taxi for buckingham palace...
@Brains00007 The real one yes. Gillian Anderson though, that is not fair.
My goodness, I love how Olivia became an international household name after winning The Academy Award.
I'm glad Gillian gets more attention now than ever because she deserves more awards.
yes agree with you. Olivia deserves this, she's so bubbly and happy. As for Gillian, she's been amazing her entire career and I hope she gets her due one day. She's Oscar caliber too.

Both women are amazingly talented actresses and I'm sure the Crown is very entertaining, but can we just sit back and admire how gorgeous Olivia Coleman is? Gillian gets mentioned all the time for her beauty, but Olivia...those blue eyes...😍
Has Gillian Anderson always sounded so English (yet retaining the American ‘r’s etc)?
She slips in and out of both accents.
She's an American raised in the UK, and I've watched a lot of her interviews over the years, and she seems to take on the accent of whichever country she is living in at the time. Her UK accent is certainly native.
She's a Londoner by birth
I know her background, but I don’t remember her ever sounding so English in interviews.
She's surpressed it. Enough that the American accent came naturally for years, but she's out of practice having mostly lived in the UK in recent years.
Thatcher had elocution lessons to speak lower, powerfully and in a less feminine manner as she felt she wouldn’t be taken seriously with her normal woman’s voice.
I don’t think people realise outside of the UK working class how much Thatcher destroyed us. ESP up north and Scotland. I’m from Barnsley and my town is still reeling from her. Crown did a good job of not glorifying her and showing how much she believed she thought she was benefitting us. She didn’t. I’m 27 and I still feel the pain of her government
God know how many lives were lost from suicides due to having their livelihoods destroyed by her. I'm in Essex, surrounded by hardcore Tories and Thatcherites. It's a grim place to be if you're even an inch to the left. In the 80s it was even worse.
Reagan was the same in the U.S. We're still suffering from the specter of his policies -- the middle class has gotten steadily weaker since his presidency.
I kinda wish they were separate interviews, Olivia barely spoke in both segments
I think That Gillian Anderson did an incredible job as Margaret Thatcher so she was fabulous.
Apart from changing her accent Coleman doesn't rely on any tricks to potray her Queen. She just acts. Brava!!
That FRICKING HAND @7.21 :-@ ARRRGHHHH I got a Jump Scare ! :-o :-P pls dont do that sort of thing! :-P

Was so happy to learn of Olivia's Indian heritage. She is marvellous and recounted her trip to the sub-continent beautifully
Just rewatched Hot Fuzz 2 nights ago. Doris is the sleeper cell funny of the who;e movie.
The whole cast were extraordinary in the crown but Gillian's Thatcher is just remarkable .
Olivia's got a long history in comedy, too. Love that lady!

All these decades later Gillian Anderson is still gorgeous. And she’s actually around my age too. I always assumed she was quite a bit older, until I read up on her...a Gen X’er like myself.

fun fact, as Edward the Queen's uncle never had children if he hadn't abdicated Elizabeth would have become queen anyway when he died.
Agreed. Only 20 years later than she did. Margaret might have married Peter Townsend and Charles might have married Camilla the first time without anyone ever knowing who Diana was.
I don’t think it’s been fun for the Queen. And it was thought that she wouldn’t be Queen until the late sixties or early seventies when her uncle’s died.
It's not really an independent hypothetical, though. If he would have had the sense of duty to not abdicate, he would have had the sense of duty to have children. He would have been a completely different person. Can't really separate the two things.
Olivia will always be Sophie from Peep Show to me 👍
