- After tuning a couple of these CUAA BiTDI's, we wanted to see what restriction the factory downpipe was causing and how this was effecting the EGT's. As a test, we fabricated and installed a stainless downpipe.
This was also in preparation for Part 3 when we install and test a hybrid turbo to see what power these engines can really do!
Figures - 303bhp & 490ft/lbs
Stainless Downpipe:

always love a DD update/build vid, very interesting as always !!!!!!
Diesels have gone very technical
You lot are the guys 👍🏼👍🏼
Great video! Very informative and enjoyable 👍
Belle vidéo 👌 😉
One of these in my mk3 octavia would be a treat!
Waiting for part 3 😬👍👍
Shouldn't be long now!
Can you guys pretty please make a compilation of Ryan being interrupted when he's talking by noises XD. It used to always be that alarm on the dyno
Been looking forward to seeing more about these and what you do with them!
Are you guy able to share the dark magic secrets about compound turbo setups and sizing them right for the vag diesels?
There's a part 3 coming up!
I love these CUAA Engine videos! Will definitely keep watching! What years / models were these in? Do you have a stand alone ECU?
The CUAA engine came in the Passat and Tiguan between 2014 and 2016. We don't offer a stand alone ECU
I would really like to see this engine conversion in a golf Mk7 GTD, what a proper track weapon that would be. :)
wait when he was showin the dpf out there were two of him
Trick in editing. They do that sometimes. It's like an easter egg or smth
Twin thing
Ryan and scott are twins 👯♀️
The DPF’s don’t seem to give bother on these. Mine has been remapped since new (290bhp) and now has 180,000 miles .DPF seems to be still ok.
I can’t believe how complicated these engines are, and all the sensors! 😳
Yeah but they don’t seem to give much problems. Mine now has 180,000 miles. The only sensor that gave problems was the fuel metering valve on the pump.
It is comforting that the CUAA engine is so modern and under IT control that every failure can be seen after scanning with a diagnostic computer.
I spy a single cab amarok in the background. How's that insane project coming along?
Paused!
Hello ! Can you tell me please what injectors and fuel pump does the CUAA engine has ? And how much can they support? I have a Passat with DDAA 190hp engine and it has injectors capabile of 280hp(I think) and the CP 4.1 fuel pump(can do around 250-260hp I think, more with the CP4 metering valve upgrade), but i want to sell it the one with the CUAA angine. Thx !
We did a part 3 on this car - ua-cam.com/video/hpG2BbJVbQ8/v-deo.html
It made 334.6bhp & 510ft/lbs on the stock fuel system and probably a little more in them too. Your engine will struggle to flow enough to produce these figures anyway, the CUAA has bigger ports and flows much better.
One quistion i have also a B8 bitdi but mine is now stock..
what kind of tune options is there for this car… only remap or also other filter or anything else ..??
Drop and email to sales@darksidedevelopments.co.uk, we'll be able to give you a list of upgrades based on what you are wanting
My bi-tdi (cuaa)
Pushes 300hp and 600nm
With only a custom remap
I also coded “audi mode”with OBDeleven
The difference is huge
Drives smoother and acceleration is linear
Do u have any experience with that ?
That is just dyno difference, this one would have melted on a long run at 280hp with the old tune. Not sure what 'Audi Mode' is.
How much can you put out from a b6 2.0 tdi bmr ppd170 engine with everything stock and dpf out?
205hp safely
Question. Have you done any work with the b8 passat gte's??
We have not!
Would it be a worthwhile consideration if the DPF needed replacing?

Hi i have a yeti 4x4 2litre tdi (140bp version) been a great car 2013 version..allways changed oil/filter every 5000 (correct oil) had cambelt done by skoda at 70000 its on 90000 now it has just startet making a annoying tick at idle,,bring upto 1000 rpm it goes just comes back at idle...any clue please car still runs fine many thanks also sometimes it smokes like hell stop turn off fine again very odd
Will be the injectors or the wiring plugs to the injectors.
@@DarksideDevelopments many thanks
How much high is for you when you consider high the EGT? Sorry for the tongue twist😅
920c really
Have you ever had a CFGC Passat 177ps 130kw in for a remap?
Yes, they do 210hp usually!
What is the timing belt interval on these CUAA engines? I was told it’s a lot shorter than the normal 150/190 engine?
Every 140,000 miles
@@DarksideDevelopments
CUAA has a replacement every 120 000 km
How hard would these engines be for a swap to something not normally used with a cr?
These engines have a lot of wiring. We convert them to the older ECU so wiring is no harder than a PD swap really
@@DarksideDevelopments that is exactly what I wanted to hear! 💪🏻
Is it hard to convert to the older ecu and does it involve a specific wiring loom or anything?
It's fairly straightforward.
Is it possible to turn a CNHA into a CUAA adding the biturbo and all the parts needed or are too much different?
Totally different engine, CUAA is unique.
Please email us - sales@darksidedevelopments.co.uk
Have you guys worked on the Mercedes 2.2d OM651 engine? If so, what are your thoughts?
We have not!
@@DarksideDevelopments I think they've said before that they won't touch Merc diesels, so far there's only one guy we know of that's done a hybrid turbo OM651 and it made around 290hp and 750nm tq, but even that dude disappeared off the face of the earth
Seems it's the same engine that comes in the Infiniti Q50 but only really can see remaps advertised without supporting mods. 170bhp range supposedly.
What's a job like that going to set a fellow back? Would love to visit your shop sometime and get it done
Drop us an email!
@@DarksideDevelopments ok thanks 😊
When this engine does 300bhp only with a remap can't imagine what's going on if u go on full tune like the 300hp 1.9 tdis
Here's one of these cuaa passats doing a 12 second 1/4 mile, don''t know what mods it has done.
ua-cam.com/video/poncpa_vsRM/v-deo.html
Look at the caddy project we have.
How big was the egt before turbo upgrade and after? I’m curious about this because I also have a bitdi engine remapped to 290 hp and 590 nm with dpf out and the egt reach almost 900 degrees to over 200 km/h, with second catalytic converter on the car. The outside temp was 25 degrees and on intake 47 degrees.
The EGTs were around 920c, stock they get up into the high 800s anyway
Hello awesome people. When it comes down to just squeezing the juice out of a tdi, pd or cr?
CR for us!
@@DarksideDevelopments If it's not too much, may i ask why? No need for a long answer
The PD is simpler but very old technology, the CR allows for much more precise tuning.
@@DarksideDevelopments I've recently got a mk2 TT TDI which I believe uses the CR, i've had a basic tune and bought the induction kit from your website. I'm not really technically minded so what would be the next step? Thanks for any advice!
Ever do Passat b8 190bhp remap would there be much gain
Please drop us an email at sales@darksidedevelopments.co.uk with your vehicle details, we can see what's possible.
Do u do any vids with the r6 polo blue GT? New sub here.
What engine?
@@DarksideDevelopments 1.4
How are u geting newer stuff to pass emissions. Over in ireland there realk clamping down on euro 6 engine the emissions are squeezed down to noting . Latest tests is 0.070 fails as were old yokes were 1.5
These easily pass!
Iv taking dpfs out of yoke . And best i can get them is 0.2 on emissions but even still with latest euro 6 thats a fail over here in ireland yous must have very good maps or is it still a vw cheating the system thing lol
Blame VW
Hello
How much cost someting like this?
Hi, drop us an email with your reg and we can tell you - sales@darksidedevelopments.co.uk
Hello, is this a reliable engine?
Yeeah, we use the CUAA in our Golf and TT Race cars so
@@DarksideDevelopments nice, thanks, I’m planing to buy passat AllTrack with this engine and dident find any info
So complicated. So much less to go wrong when we're running electric cars 😊
You wish
You need a new motor mate, just call it 5k
Less parts maybe, but alot more complicated and a damn sight more expensive to fix.
@@DarksideDevelopments How much is a new 2.0 tdi engine though!
Does it smoke now?
No!
Man that engine looks complicated
228 stock? so its running less than claimed? thats dissapointing.
many cars do!
@@DarksideDevelopments Many VW cars have usually higher values than claimed, but maybe this applies to petrol engines.
