Great video!! I have a question when I get into movie settings the camera is freezing..... Even the display s teen stays on when I shut it off.... It then say Error : Press shutter button.. Then it takes a pic and I have to turn on and off multiple times to get back to basic camera mode.. Have you seen this problem before?
Best to you and yours... Cheers

Wow, this is really a breath of fresh air. Sir, your "down and dirty" approach to camera settings is much appreciated. I am tired of hour-long videos on how to change 3 settings. Thank you for "ISO keep it low", I am new to filming and I need that rhyming rule of thumb. I will search through your videos for more valuable instruction. Subscribed and notifications.
Thank you Todd, your support is very much appreciated.
Paul @ Photo Genius.
This video was enormously helpful. Not only did you guide me through a grad school video project, but you've opened up possibilities for all kinds of new work. Thank you.
I'm so glad I found your channel Paul. Your tutorials are truly inspirational. I really like your style of presenting, which is calm and concise. No mad edits with loud music and shouting. I've only recently got interested in photography again, but after watching your videos I feel really inspired and excited to start taking photos again. Even your tutorial on Snapseed got me editing some old photos with great results. My particular camera is the Nikon D5000, which I know is a few years old now, but I'm still able to follow most your recommended settings in your tutorials. Once again, thank you for being an inspiration. I really means a lot
Thank you so much Paul for taking the time to comment - I'm so glad you are inspired and enjoying your photography, I appreciate your support very much.
Paul.
@@photogenius Thanks for the video. I have a Nikon d3500. I wanted to ask you which ISO is the best for filming a football game. because I am using iso 200 and the video changes color and becomes too bright when I zoom in. I would like to know what is the best programming to film a game. Thanks.
This is excellent information in very simple layman's terms! Well, I'm not a novice to 35 mm camaras, my 1st was at 19 yrs. old, way back in 1980! I was givin a beautiful top of the line PENTAX! I was taking a photography course at my local community college here in Rhode Island, I wanted to learn anything that had to do with the Arts! But, that was film then! Over the years I used a Canon and Nikon. I was married at 17 with a 3 month old daughter when we married! Life happened so I put my dream aside and just picked up the camara for normal picture taking occasions! Well, smart phones came along and just started taking pictures again, editing apps were many, so I got really good at picture editing and then I was approaching my 60th in couple years so I wanted to get serious again but didn't ever use a DSLR! I bought the Nikon D3500 package and went on YT to learn from someone who is older and experienced! I turned 60 this past April (Easter Sunday!) I'm getting divorced (AGAIN!) after 21 yrs. So I'm looking forward to pursuing my long lost love of taking pictures with a real camara! Thanks for explaining the how to's in easy understandable language! 👁✌📷💜
Thank you so much, was really struggling with why my photos were not turning out as well in comparison to my Nikon 3200, despite being the Nikon 3500.

Good narration!--watching it again soon.
Thank you John - thanks for watching.
Really cool content, enjoying a lot. Subscribed instantly. I recently took a video on D3500 with around 3 people in the frame, two of them were closer to the lens and one of them in a bit far. The camera managed to keep constant on those 2 but completely missed the one in the back, could you please suggest a better focus mode for such a scenario to maintain focus on all the subjects. Thanks
very helpful and informative. thank you
wow amazing, it's quite very useful for my as i have nikon DSLR , i am going to follow your all steps to shoot video for my channel.

Loved the video! I had no idea about the iso rule, thanks! Just a question; I’m recording a Dance performance in a few weeks, that’s on a stage with some strobe/back lights, what settings would you recommend?
Very helpful. I'm needing to know about external micrprones. I jave been looking though a lot of videos because I am thinking about starting a UA-cam channel.
If your camera has the option to plug in an external mic then take a look at the Rode range of mic's, they are really great...

Hey Pual happy new year & I am really thankful for your guidance on d3400 still pics with 70-300 mm lens. They came nicely & looks bit professional. Wanted to get some knowledge in cinematic video shoot with d3400 . Also what would you suggest 18-55 or 70-300 mm lens to shoot a cinematic video. Do let me know if you have a tutorial video on the same.
Thank yiu for this nice tutorial sir

one catch point (most of people struggle) that mentioned in this video is:
In manual mode for movie setting you keep pressing 'info' till you see movie icon...! thats for movie setting.
thanks photo genius a true genius
Brilliant video! Thank you so much :)
The 'multi selector' tool at the back of the camera... Is that just the round, up down left right button? Appreciate your time :)

Paul,
New to the channel and new to photography. I have a Canon T6 and was wondering if you would please do a video on picture size modes? Your videos have helped me not be so intimidated by my new camera. I look forward to getting out and playing with it. I am an outdoors-man and love to take pics of my adventures. Keep of the great videos. Thank you in advance.
Thanks for watching and supporting my channel. I will certainly consider doing a video regrading image sizes and formats in the near future.
Excellent. You can tell a true pro photographer when he or she is able to produce quality images with entry-level cameras!
Hi am from India. It's very useful for beginners.. good job.
very usefull .. thanks
Great Tips, Thanks
Glad it was helpful!
You are just so good to watch 🙌🙌
Thank you so much.
I love this camera, I got it for Christmas but I still need to get us to it. Is there a way to record beyond the standard 20 minutes of video? Thank you for your video and recommendations.
Great review. I would like to ask. What about using the D3500 shooting videos for vlog. Or for a UA-cam channel.
New subscriber here mate! Thanks for sharing
Very welcome, thanks for the sub and support 👏
Just found you and your videos, very clear, thank you. Please can you post about using the back button for focusing, I'm trying to photograph running dogs!
Will be making video on back button focus sometime in the near future. In the meantime make sure you've watched this two videos which will help you.

Great video! Focus modes run through was very helpful. What were your aperture, shutter, and ISO settings during the opening video scene you filmed? I find I really have to crank up the ISO to get proper exposure in low light conditions, which introduces grain. I did not see noticeable grain in your opening sequence so I'm wondering what I'm missing.
A trick I think is helpful is to decrease your exposure compensation to hide the grain and keep the ISO between 800- 1600
Great video. Just bought this camera. How do you shoot in slow mo mode? Can't seem to find how to do that?
I’m filming my first project(wedding) soon , what two lenses would you recommend for a close up & a more distant view ? Great video
You talked about microphone briefly , is there one available for this camera that is worth while using?
Hi. Thanx for the video! Can I ask a question? With this camera can you film only for 20min? Thank you
Thank you for the video, I appreciate the help. I was hoping you'd also talk about how to change and use the F stop. You brought up a setting screen at the end around 14:49 but I don't know how you got there and I can't figure it out. Then you moved the F stop and other adjustments on that last settings screen but I don't know how you did any of that. Can you also explain that at some point? Thanks for the video.
No problem, when in the manual mode you can change the aperture by holding down the exposure compensation (+/-) button on the top of the camera then turning the dial.
Hope that helps.
Good video, do you have any photography settings for the D3500?
Thank you sir for the information...
Q. Is it work an External microphone with adaptor?
I'm sorry - neither the D3400 and D3500 allow an external mic to be connected.
Of course both cameras have mics built in to the cameras but the quality is not vert good.
Great video. I'm a new subscriber, and I'm wondering can I record & see myself in this camera? For example for a UA-cam channel. I'm a beginner so I need something simple yet good quality.
I got the d3500 about a year ago for photographing small products for retail. Up until now I haven't used it for anything else, and certainly not video. As a keen skateboarder I thought I would now try and video some tricks with this camera, but I have no idea what settings to use. My plan is to buy the SLR Gorillapod, take the camera to my local indoor carpark, plant the camera in the corner of the carpark and record myself skating around. As I'll be on my own I guess the settings will be very different to what you used in your video; For one thing I need the camera to be focused on me while I'm not controlling it. I would be very grateful if you might advise the best settings.
thanks for sharing
Hi Paul what is your suggestion to shoot a video with this camera and rode microphone?
Fantastic.
