@marks90004 from what i heard from a friend of mine, even under warranty they tend to act up. he got his brand new and after around a year or so it was making a weird rattling noise. not the irritating type just a click or something every few minutes or so type. he took it back to the service center, they say no problem. sound still there. since the drive and handling is not affected he just chalk it up to the car singing him the song of its people and ignores it.

I AGREE with you that BMWs really do have a FUN, SPORTY, & STYLISH look that make them hard to settle for the other "reliable" cars, such as Toyotas!! Don't get me wrong, I do agree that some of the cars that are called "reliable" are that, yet they are just not as fun & comfortable to drive. I think doing regular maintenance (before the manufacturers required miles, such as doing oil changes before 10k miles) is one of the ways to ensure one's BMW lasts. And it doesn't have expensive repair costs due to going too long without maintenance!!

Nobody is calling a 4cylinder bmw the ultimate driving machine - at least I hope not. The newer (and cooler) bmws are very reliable. BMW is now ranked 3rd in reliability, much due to their B58 and S58 motors that are being put it the M2 M3 M4 and all the 40is. Regardless, if you want to drive a reliable camry thats 100% totally fine, but the people who buy unreliable cars, buy them because its worth it. Mclarens spend half the year in the shop

Person that bought a used 4 cylinder turbo 228i here. I'm very upfront with people about how much I've spent on maintenance. Valve cover gasket leak, vacuum line, plus new brake pads and rotors (carbon ceramic brakes need both at the same time) were absolutely not cheap. The staggered tires won't be cheap to replace either, and it drinks premium fuel faster than I thought it would. Fortunately my car is a 2015 so it doesn't have timing chain issues, and the previous owner (my dad) properly maintained it. I've spent more on maintenance and operation than any other car. If it wasn't a convertible with amazing handling, I would have gotten something like a Honda or Toyota. It's just too fun to drive.

I owned 3 BMWS and 2 Camrys and I learned that the German engineering is you have to do and follow the all manufacture requirements like doing certain maintenance at certain mileage or replace certain part at certain time no matter how expensive it is you have to do all that no matter how expensive it is unlike Japanese engineering it’s designed to benefit the public and how the car still runs in it’s worst conditions ever because you might not be close to home or a repair shop near … but the ride and the performance in bmw is a lot better than Toyota by a lot but of course everything comes with a price .

I recently drove it down to Lanzarote Canary Islands 🇮🇨 from Ireland 🇮🇪. 4 days it took . Two overnight cruise ferries. 12 hrs driving . It was crammed with luggage and equipment . Full roof box. Myself my fiancé and my dog .
We spent 9 weeks down there . I did my PADI Divemaster course . Then before we journeyed back to Ireland I had it serviced and checked on the island - €125 including a diagnostic . The drive home was great and I’m still driving it . One of the injectors was a little bit growly when cold so I added some injector cleaner fluid to a full tank of petrol . Much better . 115,000 km on the clock . It still has a lot of power and sticks to the roads . If you don’t like BMW - don’t buy one . But stop wining like little bitches about them please ! They didn’t just take the b58 straight from bmw and put it into the Supra, Toyota did testing and modified it to the standard of Toyota which is number 1 in reliability, and the b58 was already known as a good engine maybe there will be buyer’s remorse

Had a 2013 328i with the n20 engine, 178k miles. Only got rid of it because I hit a deer going 85, still made it to work after I hit the deer. Only ever did oil changes and spark plugs at 100k in its lifetime🤷‍♂️ they definitely have flaws but all car companies do

You said that friend bought a 2014 BMW? And today is 2024. It's been 10 years now. I don't know about you all, but I don't expect my car not to have parts that wouldn't have worn out after 10 years.
My cousin's 2008 Accord had transmission issue in 2022. Sure it's 14 years apart. But things like this happen. Why so surprised?
In fact, why buy a house? You will have to repair pipes, HVAC, windows, wood panels, roof, pavements, etc... after some 10-20 years.

I've found that if you do above average mileage and are sensitive to every single issue the car displays and take it to the dealer to fix under warranty then you're well set for the future years when the car exits its warranty period.
