You are 100% correct, there was, what seemed like a coordinated effort, to kill this movie before it was released. Numerous UA-cam channels had multiple headline shows declaring 'The Marvels is a Disaster", "Marvel in Crisis, Marvels a Disaster" and other bashing headlines weeks before release. Variety wrote several articles declaring The Marvels a flop before it was released. Yes, it was unfair.
I saw the film opening weekend and thought the film was fun. I believe it was hurt by a weak villain, Dar Benn, and a rushed ending. The best superhero movies have very wicked villains, like Thanos, Loki, but Dar Benn never seemed like a threat to Carol. I enjoyed it, thought it could have been better, but still a fun time at the movies.

Enjoying something doesn’t mean it’s good. I enjoy and like the first 3 season of CW Flash, but I know it’s an objectively bad and an embarrassment of a show.

Movie has skepticism because the original Captin Marvel movie was clowned on, people were used to the MCU making good movies too.
Aquaman however was part of an already crap franchise so no one expected anything from it.
It has nothing to do with misogyny, people are just mad at the MCU now since it’s been making bad films compared to the originals.
