Andrew you produce some of the most relaxing footage on youtube. If ever anyone has made the right decision to embrace canal life it was you. Regards Stuart from the frozen north.👍
Lovely vid Andrew. Witch Fender, mysterious dog, mysterious lady with mysterious dog! Loved the scenery and commentary but you will have to come clean sometime soon! I’ve also noticed your upper scuppers have been tidied up! You and yours take care. Admiral Hutchinson and Rear View Mirror.
😂😂ah poor Andrew. Yes we’ve all noticed the lock fairy has been travelling along side him for quite a few weeks now. Remember the two glasses in the sunset. The BBQ one gamon steak one salmon fillet. The same lady appearing at the locks. I think it’s lovely they have company in this difficult time. All the best Patricia 🙋
Hello again. Wonderful scenery again thank you. I see a few people are pulling your leg about your boating friend. Bless her. Is she camera shy? Hard as you try with the editing we all know 😂😂 it’s nice you’ve met another boater her dog is lovely. Take care look forward to seeing your merchandise. Dee
What a pleasure your vlogs are to watch, definitely a cup of tea and a digestive biscuit moment. Planning on getting my own fifty seven footer one day and do what your doing. Stay well.
Nice one - taking those night shots. I liked "clearlake's" comment on being 55, newly divorced, and almost a narrowboater. A splendid mid-life crisis and much safer than a red sports car and 25-year old blonde! Narrowboaters seem a special breed, men and women alike: independent, curious, risk-takers (in the sense that anything might happen), and keen to take control of their lives. The rest of us live through their lifestyle vicariously and safely. Thanks for sharing yours with us. John, Ontario, Canada
Good point John, although I think many solo boaters in their fifties and sixties have chosen the lifestyle to escape (and I include myself in that). Some recover better than others, some prefer the solitude.
Hello my dear friend Such an amazing video. So peaceful. But who was the dog walking with you at he beginning? Waiting for your next one. Stay well. Stay safe Cheers from NYC
Hi Carlos, The next one may take a while as Wifi coverage is pretty sporadic out here. The dog is called Chester, I'm sure he'll feature a bit from now on...
@@talesfromtheswansneck The dog is called Chester? Now I may be mistaken, but the pooch seemed to have a slight limp in the short clip. So I wonder if it was named after Matt Dillon's sidekick , Chester, in the TV series, Gunsmoke.
@@talesfromtheswansneck Who is winding up whom? Chester was played by Dennis Weaver, who although a skilled actor, couldn't act the part of a dog convincingly...
@@talesfromtheswansneck That would be nice. I hear the Foxes lost their dog Dillon. Zella and I were very fond of that dog. I haven't had a dog since I stoped mushing and found a home for my old dogs. Maybe it's time.
I have three dogs and one of them does not like any animals on TV so your channel is or was a safe bet 😁 It seems most boaters except cruising the cut and the tiller people have dogs or cats and because it’s late I thought I would watch you! I fear your channel may also soon become iPad only and not TV friendly. This really is a beautiful canal and I think selling your photography is a great idea. Maybe consider a calendar I don’t think an6 of the other channels do one but I could be wrong. Thanks as always for sharing your adventure.
Thank you Sylvia, sorry your dog doesn't like other animals on tv, however four legged friends may only appear briefly from time to time, so the big-screen could well be a safe bet still. Sadly calendars don't really sell in enough volume any more, but I shall be producing cards. Take care
@@talesfromtheswansneck We loved it. We had friends accompany us who had been on that route a few times & benefitted from there knowledge. You'll love it.
I'm back online now after several months and immediately watched your videos first ( haven't even checked my email yet!). Finally got up to date with this latest one; really great watching your stuff. Regards, John.
This takes me back a couple of years (20). I used to deliver meat for the kitchen, to the pub that backs on to the canal. Can't remember it's name now.
@@talesfromtheswansneck As i said it is a lomg time ago ,the pub may have changed it's name. At the time it was very friendly place, it really does back onto the canal. I retiried from work 2010. Stay safe, Happy days. Charlie.
If you are looking for a possible upgrade for the Olight you may want to look at the Seeker 2 Pro model as it has a bigger battery, more lumens (not really needed) and is very floody so you can light up quite a large area. I also like the M2R Pro Warrior since it has a tail cap switch, 1800 lumens, and 300m of throw when you need to light up something farther away.
Ok thanks, but I used it as a promo for Olight, and whilst I was impressed with the brightness I found the build quality poor in that it is now quite difficult to turn on, and goes off with the slightest knock.
@@talesfromtheswansneck That is odd, I find their build quality to be quite good. I wonder if yours was defective or if some connection is partially broken somewhere inside. They do have a 5 year warranty.
Sometime in my next life I will have a canal boat, a dog and cat and a bloody big chainsaw to give other boaters a fighting chance. The canal authorities need to hire boaters to do their job for them!
Tales From The Swan's Neck When I was 55 and newly-divorced, I seriously considered a narrowboat (I have since discovered that 95% of newly-divorced men in their 50s seriously consider a narrowboat). In the end, I decided against it. And one of a number of things that put me off was the problem of shopping. Of course, going to the supermarket is never a truly enjoyable experience at the best of times. But at least when you do it in a car, it's relatively painless. However, unless a narrowboater hires a taxi, it must be a nightmare - particularly as boats tend to have minuscule fridges and no freezers and supermarkets are rarely a two-minute walk from the towpath. So no wonder you are looking fit, given that you doubtless have to lug heavy bags for miles. Therefore it would be interesting if you could do a video on shopping (no narrowboater seems to talk about this most practical of issues). How often do you have to shop? Do you plan these trips ahead in order to minimise the pain? How many miles in a typical week do you have to walk in order to get your purchases - and how long do you spend in carrying them back to your floating home?
@@vickijohnson4668 Amazing - you must be psychic! I was just about to respond to our Vuko pointing out that he was being unnecessarily rude, particularly as I don't 'base my life choices around shopping'. Even more remarkably, you have identified one of the main reasons I decided against a narrowboat 20 years ago (I am now 75). Sure I was fit and healthy back then. But I had enough foresight to think what would happen if I reached an age when that was not the case. Now I do indeed have mobility problems (arthritis in both knees plus a serious problem with my lungs) So opening and closing lock gates would be a nightmare. In fact, I just couldn't do it today. And how would I have got back on dry land? After all, unless you can afford to buy a narrowboat without having to sell your house, getting back into the property market would have proved impossible for me as narrowboats go down in value, while house prices go up. Do I regret not living on the cut? No. A few years after getting divorced, I met a lovely lady and we now live happily on Malta. But I still enjoy watching the exploits of those who are clearly braver - and fitter - than I am...

I wondered why he kept saying "we" 😉
Maybe the cat will come out of the bag soon - I'm sure you'll know what I mean by that Dee!
Perhaps I'm related to The Queen?
There’s a cat? And it’s kept in a bag? Whatever next? Will we see Reverie being towed by dolphins? 😁

My ‘back end is going’, as my owner rather insensitively describes it, failing to recognise the dignity I am owed.

See “Narrowboat Experience “ shopping at Rugeley on the Staffs & Worcs
@@tonycarter3756 If it deals with the questions I raised then I will definitely have a watch.
Boats do have fridges and freezers and there are supermarkets near canals, if you look at google maps you will see that.
You are really a most sad person. Basing your life choices around shopping is so so unfortunate....

Nice one Mate, bit of a scary start but got more relaxing as it went on , was the dog at the beginning a stray ?
Cheers Mick. So I've just been on the Montgomery Canal - The Monty. Was it the full Monty or did I keep my hat on?!!!
Stray?! How dare you!
Immediately we thought... dog? Has he now got a dog? Enlighten us please.
Has he now got a dog? No - at least not unless he's hiding that fact from us...
I suspect all will be revealed - perhaps in the next exciting episode!!!
Dog? What dog?
Did I see that you had a dog?
No Kay, my girlfriend at the time had a dog, and that was him. He's since sadly died.
Have you ever thought of getting a dog to keep you company
Or a cat maybe...?
Is everyone else getting the message “No stream Tap to try again “?
No, not me. All good.
