Oh God Heidi when you post a vlog you don't half cheer us up.
Yet another masterpiece.
When you were telling us and showing us your subscriber presents you were given a southern Nicholson guide. Well one of those southern waters is the Wey and Godalming navigations which is owned and run by the National trust it is the best kept canal on the network. Then to cap that you stopped at the motor and butty of the Narrow boat Trust which we know very well crewing for them and steering Brighton the butty to Cox's mill on the Wey.
I think it's written in the stars Heidi you got to do the Wey ❤

A nomadic lifestyle I fancy to try myself someday,

Hi Heidi! I just wanted to say that I love the sound your engine makes when you start it up. There's a certain musicality to it that always makes me smile. I hope you have a very successful weekend of sales and piratey encounters!
You should hear a Bolinder engine when it is running. VERY old design, it only fires when it needs to (which drives modern mechanics nuts, as they think the engine is running unevenly!). You can tell when something is wrapped around the prop, as the Bolinder engine will be working harder than it should, so will be firing more often.
You keep your narrowboat lovel and so well organised for such a small area. Its a credit to you.

I find it so interesting that you can maneuver your long boat in those narrow passages and some people can’t even drive their small cars down the road without running into something.
The horse is so cool.
Late again this week but here at last. We went in town shopping and although I love my wife to bits she can be so slow and exasperating when shopping for shoes.

I sold ice cream on the beach for years and people buy it in all weather so good luck Heidi for this season , ours started on 1st April weather has been crap up to now , we sell whipped ice cream which involves a lot off cleaning machines even when the weather has been bad .Love the little ditty and the end of your videos always make me laugh xxx

Hi again Heidi. Mum said she had seen you in Nantwich. One of the reasons I like your videos is that you show all of what it is like on the canals, even the 'sub-optimal' bits (bad weather, heavy lift bridges and locks, essential boat maintenance, and so on). That would help people who may be considering taking up canal life to get a clearer understanding of what it entails.
Have you thought about my suggestion for the imperfect badges and the excuse of 'The Inebriated Wench'? I hope all goes well at Norbury.
If you do head down south and you need a helping hand you can always give me a shout and (assuming it is on my days off) I'll help out. When I was at school I used to walk home along the towpath of the Kennet, and (during the summer) help out the elderly lock keeper at the first lock on the Kennet (after boats joined it from the Thames).

It is still two thermal layer weather up here on the Aberdeenshire coast. My best bit of cycling kit is still the heated gloves but soon it will be warm enough to pack them away.
Jenny is doing the right thing; keep going with boat life until no longer fit enough to manage.
The big wooden horse is amazing and the model is a very good replica for your boat.

I have a tip for you for once because I dropped a windlass, I have attached a rope to my windlass that I can put around my wrist while I climb out of the locks so if I lose grip of it, it just hangs by my arm.
That’s a good idea but where do you attached it without it getting caught when doing the paddles ?
@@TheNarrowboatPirate I don't have it attached when I'm doing the paddles but if you drop the windlass at that point you'll be dropping on the land 99.9% of the time.
@@milanondrak5564 yeah I know 😂 I just don’t see how I can attach and detach string to them easily … but mine are very old ones .. maybe the newer ones have a place that’s easy to do that on
@@TheNarrowboatPirate The newer ones are not any different. I just tie a knot where the handle meets the shaft and have a simple slip knot to go around my wrist. I tend to use a hangman's knot for my wrist.

Single handed, I used to do a lot of that when I had my 32 foot sailing boat, bought it off my sister and her husband. It was always a little tricky coming into marinas, anchorages were no problem as you had room to get out of trouble if things went wrong. That’s one thing you have to your advantage, at least in your video it’s so beautifully calm and peaceful, so you can take your time. In the summer
school holidays my son would come and join me so that opened up a few more possibilities. His mum came at first but then that kind of fell apart. Still look back with fond memories.
Yes it was a very calm day here … it’s only when we go on rivers it can get quite hairy in a flat bottomed boat or very windy as we just get blown all over the show 😂😄
@@TheNarrowboatPirate yes a sailing boat has a keel of some sort to stop side drift, actually remembering the fantastic majestic lookingThames sailing barges they always had two lee boards, one each side, I think their bottoms were pretty flat but they might have had short bilge keels.

I’m in West Australia it’s our winter time I like the rain but I like summer when it’s hot around 40 deg
