My students have choices on almost all discussion posts. Not on quizzes and not much on exams since those cover the core material - the entire textbook. But on all posts, they have many choices of sources to analyze (I teach history) and on "maker" posts, they can choose the topic and from multiple tools (timelines, videos, maps) to use to explain and explore their topics. Even on exams, they have a lot of choices on the IDs sections.
