  • Located near Bhopal, the caves include the scenes from the everyday life, depicting household scenes, hunting, dancing, animal fighting, elephant riders, honey collections, body tattooing, music. The 838 caves are spread on a total area of 1,850 hectares. The Bhimbetka shelters exhibit the earliest traces of human life in India. The oldest rock paintings are found in the cave dating back more than 12,000 years. It is the biggest repository of pre-historic art in India, depicting the life and times of early man.

    Visit to caves was a time travel in past.one cave painting in king chamber showed three yellow jars with mangos and white wavy painting in bottom connected with bars.I strongly believe these donated three jars full of gold were concealed in river bed at a place near royal steps to river,so as these might be safe down there.Also found a child grave converted into small water body above so as to safe gaurd it from animals and at same time use it as water resource for animals as a goodwill gesture
