It has been more than 40 years since I was privileged to see the amazing caves of Ellora and Ajanta. The art of these amazing carved caves are staggering. I hope to return for a 'pilgrimage' to the site of the dedication of these Buddhists. What ever one's religion one must wonder at the dedication and skill of these amazing monks.

Thanks for the advice mate! From what you've said it sounds like I should learn Hindi. I actually live in Adelaide, there are quite a few Indians who live here. Adelaide is a very small city (just over a million people) so much smaller than Sydney and Melbourne. The rest of Australia accuses Adelaide of being a boring place to live, which is true, but it is a very easy place to live, very low crime rate and is the cheapest Australian city to live in. Good luck in coming here!

+Adarsh Prakash the thing which makes me sad is in any documentary or films or even in tourism videos sponsored by maharashtra govt or indian govt they dont mention who built ajanta and ellora they just say its located in maharashtra which makes people assume it must be built by some marathi dynasty but where in the case of jantar mantar or taj mahal they repeat the name of the king and his background several times this double standard flustrates me

    • @Adyjetu

Yes regionalism lingualism are major problem, its said Kannada speaking areas were spread till Narmada basin in north to cauvery basin in south , but due to the political power of Kannada kingdom declined in medieval period and oppression of marata kingdoms in modern history... Kannada population became less in those areas... There is adherent dislike between maratas and Karanese people... It even led to riots called nagara dange in shivmogga , this was fueled by the religious difference, karanese being shivite and marata being vaishnavite ...
If govt of Maharashtra credits the work of ancient Kannada kingdom they will loose their popularity in there ,and get in to the filth of claim and counter claims .... So they avoid naming , politics has infested in to every aspect of life in India , and sadly it has entered history also....

    Very marvelous architecture of India.
We all are Indians, our religions were living peacefully together with each other thousands of years ago.
But some people fight over lingualism, who made these structures whether they were marathi or kannada

Horseshoe shape has brought celestial events to this place that is why Hindus,Jains and later Buddhist all wanted some space carved.one must realize that this shape gives one to have sunshine on special days onto their God.One has equal day and night on 22 march and 22 sept,22 Dec is shortest day and 22 June the longest day on northern hemisphere.so watch for these shiny spots theyare heavenly booked.

I hope I can visit India some day. The culture, the food, the music, the ancient history, what a beautiful place! I know that many Indians speak very good English but I would prefer to learn an Indian language. I know each area has it's own language but is there one language in particular that would be most practical to learn? For example, if I visit Punjab will they understand Hindi or only Punjabi? In Tamil Nadu will they understand any Gujarati or only Tamil? I appreciate any help.

in most of northern India people will understand Hindi along with regional languages.
South Indians speak regional languages but do not speak Hindi, many will co operate with English
