    I have been retired for 18 years and am still stacking. I bought a 1/4 ounce of gold and 13 ounces of silver today. The gold, (a 1991 Canadian proof $100 coin), was 1 1/2% below spot and the silver, (various vintage rounds), 9% over spot. Defined benefit pensions were readily available for my generation, so stacking is for fun. You are wise to prepare for retirement because it sneaks up on you very quickly. If fiat does crash, and that's a big if, then our PM's will become currency, at least for a while. So few of your generation are even giving it a second thought.

      I actually had a Roth IRA disappear. It was with ING. I temporarily stopped adding to it in 2008. Then, ING got bought by Capital One, so when I contacted them to restart contributions - they had no record of it. Same thing happened with a small brokerage account I had with capitaloneinvesting. They sold it to ETrade and my 5 measily shares of Microsoft have disappeared. So, I have ZERO confidence in the banking system.

      SS is the only thing that holds this country together. I have more faith that it will be there than my 401k.

    Even if nothing major blows up, the US government unfortunately must and WILL keep moving the retirement goalposts on us.

    Yes it's definitely good to have a lot of eggs in one basket...as far as the stack goes....I think of it as a back up plan...I'm only 4 to 5 years from retirement...I've done my math, we are basically debt free...house paid off..few yrs ago. And putting extra now in the IRA ect...But you just never know what can come down the Pike??? So that's why the stack is there...would love to pass it all down...but if we have to use half or even more to have a decent retirement, it's there!:))) Good stuff BYB!:)))

    Retirement? Depends on how much you will need as monthly Proceeds From Sale and the sales price per ounce at that point in time. One will need a stack in the thousands to sell at $25 plus. Selling 6,000 oz x $25 = $150,000 that’s about 8 years at $1,500 per month. Again the big unknown is the sales price at that point in time. We all hope for $40 to $60 per oz at that point in time which would be amazing to cash-in.

      Well... I see your point... yes, I gave up a 9 to 5 secure job with a pension plan and other benefits in 1990, in order to create beautiful art. It was a huge financial sacrifice that left me in this position with no retirement funds. I don't regret it for a moment though as I do enjoy creating and have a peace of mind that I never had before. I do get a Canadian Old Age Security Pension but it is hardly enough to live on even though I have a paid-for home. Still... I am excited about my new venture in acquiring silver and gold... Hopefully I will never have to sell it. I plan to keep creating until I drop.

    I have a house, pensions, regular savings, an ISA, and I've just started investing in bullion. That said, I'm currently opting to invest with the Royal Mint via their online Signature service. I've got ounces of metals at virtually spot price which I can sell back at any time by logging in and hitting a button. I may purchase some actual coinage (the remaining Queen's Beasts are a possibility) but like you I would be looking to offload them once they reach a certain value, with the funds potentially purchasing gold or silver via Signature. Incidentally, you can purchase gold from the Royal Mint with funds from your SIPP and potentially benefit from tax relief.

    I think it would be smart to stack silver for retirement because the future of home energy is going to need silver and with increasing cost of mining due to EPA regulations and most of the easy silver already mined the price is not going to do nothing but go up in the coming decades. Right now is the best time to stack some away while its under 20 dollars a troy ounce.

  • @bikiniluvnguy1
    @bikiniluvnguy1 11 місяців тому

    this is the same strategy I have. I've been at it 25 years. gold was 300 dollars an ounce here in the US when I started. now its over 1900 d an ounce. when I need a few dollars for some project and am short, I just sell a lil bit. I always replace it and add even more. greedy people cant embezzle it like they do to traditional pension funds all the time. it is far easier to protect this against common thieves than it is to protect money in the system against high tech embezzlers. common thieves are limited by the laws of physics, that is time, ability, and effort required to find and take it.

    When gold reaches its fundamental price after this ponzi scheme collapses , there will be no pensions to collect. BYB it's a great idea what you are doing but I would just stack your pension in gold and silver, and avoid pension schemes and anything related to the stock market. I only stack in gold and silver. My opinion only 🙂

    lovely 10 ounce silver coins, it's too early to say what will happen when people are going to retire in 10, 20 or 30 years, the world will be very different from now. Retirement at the age of 55, is it still realistic? they ask people now to work until they are 67 years

    Excellent video! A couple of comments, will you be discussing Platinum in the future diversification video? And per your discussion, since I am starting late (56 years old) I am front-loading my stack because as I plan to retire at 70, I should have my retirement stack in at least half that time so it has time to grow, and have spot rise enough to overcome the premiums spent building a stack.

    • @BackyardBullion
      @BackyardBullion  6 років тому

      I will perhaps talk about platinum as it relates to the long term strategy. I have talked about platinum before though and I don't want to rehash old topics. One thing that I will talk about is front loading your stacking for that long term. Should you buy it all now and preserve that wealth from today. I view the gold I buy on year 20 as stacking for 50 years from today (and to pass on to future generations). But that is a topic for another video!

    • @gateke1

    • @MrDead1975
      @MrDead1975 6 років тому

      Is platinum a wise long term choice? It's classed as an industrial metal mostly used in catalytic converters. Factor in the coming shift to electric vehicles and it could cripple the price.

    • @gateke1
      @gateke1 6 років тому

      indeed, the rise of electric vehicle market has an impact on the price of platinum,because now its used in diesel autocatalysts, but its also used in jewelry, for medical and other industrial purposes. Also platinum is more scarce then gold so the price could easily rise up again, the price is low so why not take a chance!

    I question coins attracting higher premiums, I recently phoned my bullion dealer regarding 10 surplus QB Lions that I was hoping to sell back to them as they were listing them at £60+, they offered a little under spot.
    I think that higher premium only applies when you sell privately. The dealer is now listing them at £90+.

    • @BackyardBullion
      @BackyardBullion  6 років тому

      I agree - which is why I view these coins as less liquid. I will need to take the time to find the right buyer to get the right price. They have an inherent safety net sure, but it will take a lot of time to get the right price. Gold on the otherhand, easy as pie (for the bullion pieces of course!)

      Bullion gold - most likely to a dealer or via social media. Numismatic gold, ebay, auction houses, social media most likely.

    PMs are a viable savings vehicle, but you should absolutely NOT forego a traditional pension for their huge tax advantages, and if you are on an employer scheme then this goes double or triple.

    Don’t the non Uk coins incur capital gains tax?

    • @BackyardBullion
      @BackyardBullion  4 роки тому

      Yes, but only if you make a profit above the allowance each tax year which is £12,500 per person (so £25,000 for a married couple). So unless you make mega bucks year on year it is just not a problem you need to worry about - unless your stack is huge of course!
