Summary Yes I should have confirmed that it was 2002, I pretty much knew it was but was doing 4 other videos yesterday and was mentally fucked :S This game was and still is amazing fun, it's pure fun tbh, once you play you can't put it down, not often you see that nowadays. it keeps you in the zone all the time, but at the same time it gives you time to get your shit together, the pacing and level design are just unmatched compared to modern games. When you finish this game you have amazing memories from certain levels, I had so many flashbacks as I was playing this again, it was simply awesome. The gun play is sublime, spraying the enemies never gets old and the brutality of the map design makes sure that you nearly always get out gunned and have to fight for your life. Modern games are way more forgiving with their blind enemies and that stupid red bar above your head which tells you that an enemy is looking at you and will see you in 3 or 4 seconds. Then when he sees you he shouts "hey you" and only then he fires :) In MOH it also has a mechanic to let you know an enemy has seen you, it's called a bullet in the face, regardless of how far away they are, it's so realistic in that sense. The music and voice are unmached but what do you expect from Stephen Spielberg :) Multiplayer though was it's crowning glory, never before have I enjoyed a game more in multiplayer than MOHAA, I am thankful I still have my videos from 2002 even though they are in shitty resolution recorded using a VHS video recorder after broadcasting a signal to a portable TV using a TV card :) I certainly don't miss them days :) But the multiplayer was amazing, I am grabbing a 20 player server this month to see how the old hand eye coordination has suffered over the last 15 years, lots probably. And finally am not saying all modern games are shit, they are not, but I just wish they would look at games like this for inspiration and stop treating gamers like morons.
Worth A Buy man this was the game I started fps gaming in, hell no other fps has come close yet. The metal x beams bring back so many memories. Actually I was playing this when I was playing the damn learning games (math blasters)
It definitely was 2002. I remember I thought it was a waste of money but then we got broadband internet for the first time and I played it online and I was hooked. It was the good old time with clanbase and everything...
@@jasonfenton8250 Yep, the original game came out in 2002 but the War Chest edition came out in 2004. This includes both expansions (Spearhead and Breakthrough).
Imagine this game, with modern graphics and consloe/pc power literally all they'd have to do, is have the same game, but with those upgrades and it'd be one of the best fps ww2 games
actually people working on remastered version, i will upload video of that version and you can already find information about it on x-null DOT net/mohue
They did fight in WW1 but probably not on the western front, see the schutztruppe. If the colour of someone's skin in an fps really bugs you, you may be too sensitive.
MM2isBest // BF1 has them on the Western Front, it would be like having a game based in Africa and 80% of people would be white it's just weird. I wish DICE made a campaign based of actual black soliders in WW1 and their struggles.
Robert Shepherd I didn't buy the game because of the black germans. Just insane and insulting. Dice generally took a shit on Germany with bf1 you can't even play as Germany in the campaign.
Nice one of my all time favourites. The soundtrack in the earlier Medal of Honor's was incredible. The expansion packs 'Spearhead and Breakthrough' are amazing as well.
There's one thing you forgot to mention, Mack. This game had 2 amazing expansion packs where you definitely got your money's worth ten times over. Each pack added a whole new campaign, new weapons and a bunch of new multiplayer maps. In the current DLC system you will never ever find that amount of content anymore for that price. Now they make you pay 20 bucks for only 4 new multiplayer maps (most which are just reskins). MOHAA Spearhead was probably my favorite FPS ever.
I left a similar comment. SOF was 2 years older than this, had actual damage feedback (you could shoot limbs/heads off) and had a tilt so you weren't having to peek-a-boo round corners like in this game. The only thing about AA better than SOF was the Omaha beach level and the setting. SOF wins for realism, gunplay etc
Remember loading up this game first time. After intro video, just a few seconds of gameplay until killed. You certainly got the feeling that death and destruction are everywhere. Even if linear, great variety of missions
Sadly, not many games rival this for the balance of movement, fun, and tactics. For anyone interested in plugging in on Facebook, there is a page: Medal of Honor Allied Assault Revival Group. This is for individuals or clans to network and promote their clubs, servers, or for recruitment, or simply finding a buddy to play Mohaa with. All for the love of the game.
MOH:AA Original Release date was January 2002 in USA Mack. You were probably looking at the Battlechest release date. MP was so fun for this game back in the day.
I still have all the classic medal of honor games on disk. Including the allied assault expansions. It's amazing, I love it. I agree, I really hope devs will eventually realize their mistake and start making good games like these.
I'm very happy that someone agrees that this is still a brilliant game. Back in the day it was something amazing.. not just a game but an experience. It has everything you'd want WWII game to have. Ofc it's not too realistic and it's indeed most of the time very linear, but not too often 15+ years old game can stand against new AAA titles. This was THE PC game of my childhood and it makes me very happy that you remind people of this. And I also hope some new players buy this and get the "This is what a good game looks like" feeling.
I won a ton of 1,2 and 3 place tournaments in my city, and another city. This game was my bread and butter for years. Im not bragging, we had a whole team and i wasn't even the best or anything. Seeing you post a video about MoHAA just made me super excited! This is why i love your channel and you Macky. Unlike most modern and young youtubbers, you went through the same games that i did. Forever a subscriber! P.s. Which one was your favorite MoH? I always liked the Original and Breakthrough. Spearhead had some great multiplayer maps as well.
Were you on realism servers or original? Also if you were on original what was your name, I knew all the good players in Europe, maybe we crossed paths a few times, I played this every night for a couple or years :) Nic was [SAS]MACK
Original. We had teams of 4 players for some of the tournaments. I'm not sure why, but that was the most epic time i ever had in a FPS. Sure, I loved Doom,Quake, Half Life and the first 2 CoD games, but nothing else gave me that strange feeling of being excited to play. The only game that almost got close (sometimes even passed) was Battlefield 1942. Do you remember the American Bar weapon? In both BF42 and MoH, they had the same weapon, the same feel and sound. Until DICE nerfed it to the ground because it was far too powerful in BF. You could take down an airplane with a single mag! P.s. I doubt we crossed paths. I wish we did, because i met a lot of cool people like you during the matches. Heck, my clan was even called (SAZ), so it could of been funny to see a SAZ vs SAS :) Back then, it was all about the big "internet" cafes, locally connected gaming PC's and all. Thats why we had to move from 1 town to another. The net was only good enough to check your email. Its kind of weird to think about the pre good internet/youtube days ;p
Incredible game. And don't forget the amazing score by Michael Giacchino. Although in reality he only wrote 5 new tracks for Allied Assault. The rest of the music was recycled score from Medal of Honor and Medal of Honor Underground.
This game was my first multiplayer - even tho I had absolutely no idea what to do or what to shoot. So I kept shooting water and walls with Bazooka. Also this game holds my personal record of 49:0 KD (Omaha Beach map, sniper, missed one shot, ran out of ammo). Great game.
FEAR's AI isn't really the best, it was just very cleverly designed and used a lot of audio queues that made it sound a lot smarter than it was (calling out where the player is). It's certainly competent, though.
MOHAA is GOAT. Cut my online fps teeth in that game. Had some excellent times in clan matches and just pubbing alike. NOTHING in any kind of modern game beats being the last on your team in objective and slowly creeping your way around V2 picking the other team off one by one, or sneakily setting the bomb and sniping them as they come in for the defuse! This game needs a remaster and a healthy community again, I miss it so :'( Also, Mack. Have you ever played Darkest Hour? Its a super old mod for the first Red Orchestra thats still being played and updated today. Theres a big update due out next month in fact thats going to add a squad system and suchlike. Although it plays quite differently from MOHAA, and it's not perfect, I think you might appreciate it. As RO is only £6.99 on Steam and DH is free, I'd definitely say its....Worth A Buy ;)
Brilliant game, personally the biggest thrill for me was the stealth part of the U-boat mission where nobody suspected I wasn't one of them until the bombs went off. The tension when they were checking my papers at the checkpoints was unreal. I was only 12 at the time anyway. :)
Hey Mack! Since you are reviewing retro games now, would you consider reviewing an old gem I used to play as a kid called "The Castles of Dr Creep" back on the C64? I don't know how retro you plan on going but the game is on Steam for £1.99!
Got this working a few months ago, it's such a great game I totally agree. Favourite mission was "The Nebelwerfer Hunt", always made me want to try keep the guys you meet up alive (they usually got blown up by the Nebelwerfer) :(
This is without a doubt one of my all time favorite games. I replay it often. But Mack, you may find this interesting to learn. The guys who created Call of Duty and the studio Infinity Ward, Jason West and Vince Zampella, are the same guys who made this game. They were lead developers at the EA studio that made this. After MOHAA came out, they left EA to form their own studio and then made Call of Duty. The first two Call of Duty games are so similar to this for that reason.
A few games I would love to see retro reviews for if you've played them: -Dark Messiah of Might and Magic -Condemned: Criminal Origins -Morrowind/Oblivion, maybe even Skyrim even though everyone still plays it. -Age of Empires 2 (which, again, people still play) -The Settlers (never played it, but you made it sound great in your Northgard wab) -Mount and Blade, especially since Bannerlords is coming out We need to see you wab some games you enjoy.
Haven't played through this game in years. Currently playing through it on medium and its damn difficult. Skill and patience is definitely needed. Still such a fun game after all this time. Its tense and frustrating as well as hilarious at some points. Love this game a lot. Lots of satisfaction every time I complete a level. Hopefully it gets remastered some day.
Hey Mac, would you consider doing a video about the Command and Conquer series? I think a tournament bracket thing might be a really cool idea to talk about the series as a whole (Obviously Tib 4 wins :D)
MP demo which consisted of 1 map came out for this late 2001 and it took me most of the evening to download it and i then played it all night. Ah christmas 2001......i got RTCW and AVP2 and 1 month later bought this...truly golden days for FPS if not PC gaming.
I really miss the quality of the gameplay in older games, specifically from the early 90's to the mid 2000's. Take a stealth game like Splinter Cell for example, the AI is hard and you really had to know what you were doing. Nowadays many games are hand holdy showing you where to go and what to do, making it casual so that a child or a grandma could play it, and that's what is killing AAA gaming is it's accessibility.
Yes. Medal of Honor Allied Assault is from 2002 and the two expansion pack for it was release in 2002 and 2003. the only one that was release in 2004 was Medal of Honor Pacific Assault. When gog say 2004 they mean the War Chest that have Allied Assault and the two expansion pack.
Thanks for going retro mac! showing some crap gamers what they missed out on back in the day! The original Allied Assault did come out in 2002. Im personally a huge fan of european assault and pacific assault. If you havent checked them out you need to play through them immediately
definitely older than 2004 (2002 I think), first call of duty is from 2003 people who created MOHAA left the MOHAA developer studio (2015,Inc.) and established "Infinity ward" and worked on call of duty Call of duty and Medal of honor were both done by the same people
I love this game! one of the first I ever played, grew up playing this for many years, have much more vivid memories with this over the first call of duty. Allied assault did come out in 2002, but the released they war chest collection in 2004. Mack I agree with some of the mates down below, you need to play the brothers in arms series. It's a tactical squad based ww2 shooter, with a good story, with locations faithfully recreated from the time. they tried to make it quite authentic, and I think for the most part they did a fantastic job.
This was a good game with a criminal difficult end. The winter maps can best be played around Christmas to have that snowy feeling. Also fun that you be a tank for some periods.About the PC remark: indeed PC's back then weren't as good as today's, still there were already beefy dedicated GPU's like the Ti 4600.
CoD was the best WW2 experience I ever played, but that's just me. In particular I remember the British glider/bridge capture mission being awesome, PLEASE WAB! :)
Hey Mack, What do you think of Serious Sam VR? You're into the time shooters were just better in general, have you given it a go? I've got a review up if you wanna see some thoughts on how good the VR is (it's very good, but if you want to play in true old school style it's a bit harsh on the nausea!). I want a good World War 2 game pretty much every year. There's a phase where I remember playing MoH games and early CoD and being really happy. Such a great theme when compared to modern day desert shite. Or futuristic stuff. I could go for some more quality Vietnam games though! I'm sure they could make some really poignant storylines and tense gameplay with Guerrilla warfare.
Mack what you don't understand is you can't kill a person with two bullets. Games nowadays require you to use 6-10 bullets per enemy making the game more realistic and immersive.
Mack, are you going to look at medal of Honor: Frontline? It was made in 2002 and allied assault pretty much borrowed the assets, sound effects, voice actors, much of the the sound track, and missions from it. Not detracting from aliied assault but if you enjoy it(which you very obviously do) you'll love Frontline. Different setting, different story, but still set in world war 2
Wouldn't it be something if this game got remastered
If they did a good job it would be awesome
Worth A Buy Would you ever review Call of Duty Online (The Chinese cod exclusive)?
Worth A Buy I know u don't like modern day cods with exosuits
oddly enough, i got this game for free from origin
I don't like this Hollywood mentality of remastering, why cant they make a new game, something new?
I played that D-day mission 100+ times when I was younger. I literally played this game over and over again.
Great mission and a great game

Yup,
MOHAA was in 2002
then developers ran away from it to create
COD1 in 2003
COD2 in 2005
It definitely was 2002. I remember I thought it was a waste of money but then we got broadband internet for the first time and I played it online and I was hooked. It was the good old time with clanbase and everything...
well, MOHAA MULTIPLAYER still lives, my videos are the proof and clanbase still exists in the form of scrimbase DOT com
Probably listed as 2004 on GoG because it comes with the expansions. Maybe? Please confirm?

So you would be Ok with women soldiers in BF1 then?
this game, its singleplayer and multiplayer were an integral part of my childhood, such good times
You forgot to mention Michael Giacchino's masterpiece scoring!
EnglishDreadnought I totally agree! One of the best soundtracks from a game in my opinion!
I think the classics are getting rediscovered! They're cheap, available online, and for lower end gaming systems it's a great time with full specs :D
You're right. It WAS released in 2002. Dunno what GoG is on about.
Gunplay from back in the days where bullet hits made enemies flinch and cones of fire were sensible rather than covering 1/8 the screen. Good times.
Mack, play and review Rise of Nations, you won't be disappointed. Classic RTS with an awesome twist, right up your alley.
the tank spam was real
Or the first Empire Earth game. I still like it.
Heck....I still play that one.
My buddy did the graphic design on this game. Zoom in on the tank and their are small pics of Patrick Swayze
I remember this like it was yesterday. That Omaha beach level wwas a selling point. EVERYONE wanted to play it, it was that atmospheric.
Allied Assault and all the expansions came out in 2002. GOG got it wrong. So glad to see someone articulate exactly why I loved this game nontheless.

Holden S I can remember seeing the toy shop gameplay trailer, then buying the game and feeling disappointed as fuck.
mohaa was my first multiplayer game. I was 13. I was astonished and I still remember details of that day. I'm 28 now.
Classic. So good I even got involved in playing ranked clan games back in the day. Probably my favourite FPS alongside Doom.

One of the all time greats. Played it to completion 4 times in the last 15 years
Sniper town is still hard as nails

hell yes.. this game was childhood.. main reason I'm a beast in any first person shooter

How did you get this game to run on modern systems? Does the Greenmangaming or GOG versions work? The origin version really doesnt.
when i played this game years and years ago i got goose bumps....one of the best games ever made...
Fun fact, the game is actually 2002, GoG puts it as 2004 because that is when the last expansion was released iirc.
My favourite online WWII shooter was Wolfenstein Enemy Territory.
Have you tried the No one lives forever games mack?
I remember playing this on an AMD Athlon processor, Those were the days.

Ah christmas 2001......i got RTCW and AVP2 and 1 month later bought this...truly golden days for FPS if not PC gaming.
still my fave shooter of all time. friends and I used to play online using gamespy when we were kids. simpler times
Holy fuck, I played this game as a kid! I never knew the name, and now I might buy it! Bloody thanks Mack.
Fantastic idea with this retro reviews Mack, can t wait for another one.
Is this anything like Frontline aside from the Normandy Beach level?
Damn.. One of my all time favorite games.
still remember that Normandy level... perfection
Thanks for going retro mac! showing some crap gamers what they missed out on back in the day! The original Allied Assault did come out in 2002. Im personally a huge fan of european assault and pacific assault. If you havent checked them out you need to play through them immediately
Allied Assault was 2002 mate
I knew it, the wiki says 2004 but I was sure it was 2002. Just checked and it says the logo was 2004 lol
Golden age of fps. MOH:AA, the expansion packs, the original COD in 2003...take me back mate! haha
Also I think most of the development team formed Infinity Ward and went on to make Call Of Duty a year later
Loved the Stream from yesterday!
Yeah it went down very well, everyone seemed to enjoy themselves.
Worth A Buy: Indeed.
Disguising as a german in the U-Boot level was the most fun thing for me!
I like this game but
How many rounds needed to kill just one enermy?
One whole clip?
Loved this and the First couple of CoDs
You ever play United Offensive? An absolute classic most people overlook.
definitely older than 2004 (2002 I think), first call of duty is from 2003
people who created MOHAA left the MOHAA developer studio (2015,Inc.) and established "Infinity ward" and worked on call of duty
Call of duty and Medal of honor were both done by the same people
oh wow what a shame ,that I almost forgot about that D-Day beach invasion, one of the most memorable moments in gaming
"not anything against the germans..." lol the passion in your voice right before you corrected yourself xD
Good job Mack!
I wouldnt mind getting this game just to play with ya all on stream
this game was amazing and mp was excellent after doom, quake and unreal tournament.
Hey Mack, if you were to start a server for this game would it be for subs or patreons only?
I love when he does stuff like this.
This is a really, really good game. I started playing it a few months ago and it was still better than most first person shooters nowadays
when i was 10-13 years old, i couldn't stop playing this game
Excellent review!
Minor correction: Steven Spielberg, unless I'm wrong, was only involved with the original "Medal of Honor" on PS1.
CoD was the best WW2 experience I ever played, but that's just me.
In particular I remember the British glider/bridge capture mission being awesome, PLEASE WAB! :)
It was published by Electronic Arts and released for Microsoft Windows on January 22, 2002
Good work Mack, I like this new retro WAB idea. And as if we didn't know MOHAA would be thumbed up...... :-)
Would you say the same for Pacific Assualt?
My first FPS shooter was MOH European Assault, what's your opinion on that game Mack?
Wooden Shoe Maker Watch the actual video and you'll find out.
Hey Mack,
What do you think of Serious Sam VR?
Nice review, may I suggest another classic, Hidden & Dangerous. Love that game.
COD 1 is my fave ww2 game personally, man when cod was good it was good! My 1st proper PC multiplayer game too, brilliant!
i love all WW2 Medela Of Honor games. especially the old ones. If you get a server going I'll install it.
I just looked it up, The original game did come out in 2002, it was the "War Chest" version that came out in 2004
Mack what you don't understand is you can't kill a person with two bullets.
Jesus Christ!!! THIS IS MY FUCKING CHILDHOOD GAME!!!
Holy shit I remember that D-day mission. absolutely amazing at the time!
oooh i remember that beach!!! loved this game!
