Hell yes! I played the demo for this nonstop over Christmas break back then, MOHAA was one of the greats along with Return to Castle Wolfenstein! Multiplayer was so much fun.
That was my very first online multiplayer game! I can still remember the day we finally got DSL! I immediately turned on this game! Talking stupid shit to strangers as a kid was just AMAZING! (even if it was just text chat)
5:05 To the point about enemies leaning: Weirdly enough, in the base game, leaning is an option available in the options menu. But they're only usable in multiplayer, and only became usable in SP in the expansions. I don't have the slightest idea why that was ever the case and to this day it still boggles my mind! 10:05 I replayed the game on hard. It's rather strange to me that grenades weren't particularly useful on lower difficulties, but on hard they become useful to force the AI to move from their positions. This is because they deal immense amounts of damage (snipers dealt 40 and I believe Kar rifles dealt 25!!) and, by the time you get to the U-boat series of levels, their delay between looking at you and firing becomes nearly nonexistent. Either stunlocking with an SMG (and praying I can both aim in time and have the spread be kind to me before they can fire!) or throwing/cooking grenades to force them to look away were essential in my experience on that difficulty. Also for the D-Day landing specifically, there was a weird detail I noticed in playing through it. It's anecdotal and likely wrong in some capacity, but I think the level is scripted in a way where you are supposed to hide behind the tank traps and other obstacles to give you cover. This is obvious. What isn't so obvious is they still try to shoot in your direction once the game "tells" them you're behind it, so they shoot around you instead. Once you leave, the game "tells" them to give the player a couple of warning shots, signifying that they're going to attempt to damage you again. In summary, there's a period where the MGs just stop shooting at you if you wait long enough. The level greatly exercises patience. (Yet even _if_ you're patient, however, you'll still take loads of damage and it's still based on luck.) Overall good and well-presented video! I'm only mildly surprised you didn't mention the somewhat divisive "Sniper Town" haha! Looking forward to watching more! (:
Thanks for the kind words! Few comments... I had heard that the leaning mechanic was in the expansion by I never knew they existed in multiplayer, how unusual, I honestly have no idea why this didn't make this into the game. Interesting point around grenades! Playing through on hard sounds like a tough ask... there were times that I really struggled on the default difficulty level, it's just that damn flinch which really makes things tough. The D-Day landing was very frustrating, because up until that time I thought the game had been mostly skill based, but that level seemed to be more luck based. That's probably why I wasn't so harsh on Sniper town, while it's annoying for sure, I still think it's skill based (although luck definitely played a part...) I've got Call of Duty on my list to cover in the near feature so I'll get to see how well that has aged!
@@azordash_games Yeah I would personally not recommend playing on hard because any incentive to run and gun evaporates fast and it becomes much more about cover and thinking, "Hmm, can I trade my 80 health for trying to rush this guy? Do I have grenades? Do I have MP40 ammo?" and so on. At least that was my experience. Frankly, with how the objective-based game modes are played in that game in multiplayer, I wouldn't be surprised if it were the intent. I'd argue the D-Day landing isn't skill-based for one reason: up until you're right next to the bunker where you can get the referential Springfield and have to run through a minefield, that entire part is primarily you taking damage from the map and its scripting, rather than enemies themselves. And you take _a lot_ of damage that way before you get to a place where that isn't a threat. In any case, I look forward to seeing the Call of Duty retrospective! Hope it's a fun one to put together!
Agree on all points…. One thing I didn’t admit in the video was that I died a lot to that minefield…. By forgetting it was actually a minefield 😬😬😬 I think part of me just wanted to rush to get the level completed!
@@azordash_games Yeah, in my replay when I reached that part, I was in a constant rush too. Getting up to the bunker before that minefield and MG42 section is worth taking a break alone when the enemy is more the map itself than a tangible target haha!
Dide Medal of Honor Rising Son is my all-time favorite MOH game, and alongside Cod Finest Hour and Halo 2 were some of the FPS games that made me fall in love with the genre.
I really need to get around to making a COD retrospective given the fact that in all honesty it’s probably the one game franchise that I have played the most of…
@azordash_games I mean all jokes aside it's actually a great FPS series. Sure it's went downhill a little over the kast few years but the first two MW reimaginings and Cold War are all great. I think pretty much every game before that was mostly good as well. Vanguard and the new MW3 were the biggest upsets imo as a long time fan.
@Deadforge I really enjoyed the Cold War Black Ops ones in recent times. The last COD was the last one I actually didn’t buy, although I do play Warzone from time to time…
Wish Allied Assault got a console port like the original CoD got for Xbox 360 and PS3. The Omaha Beach level alone puts to shame most so called WW2 games we got from AAA devs recently. I almost thought Allied Assault came out in 2001. Lots of excellent FPS games that year: Halo CE, Return to Castle Wolfenstein, Aliens Vs Predator 2, Red Faction, Operation Flashpoint Cold War Crisis, and Ghost Recon.
@azordash_games, I agree. As for Operation Flashpoint, have you played any of the Arma games? If you like those, you'll probably like Operation Flashpoint as well. Operation Flashpoint Dragon Rising in particular stands out as China was the antagonist of the game. Unlike Homefront or Crysis that traded China for North Korea.
Thanks for the kind words! Ohhh myyy gosh, I had forgotten Flatout until you mentioned it then. I generally suck at driving games so that's why I don't tend to cover them, but never say never... ;)
good video il give you a histoy breakdown of the game Chapter by {Lighting the Torch} , instead of a lone british and american operative silencing 2 gun batteries in the port of arzew to commence operation torch it was the 1st ranger battalion who was in the main force for the attack Objective: to take over the port town , silence the gun batteries to help the 1st infantry divison take Oran as their invasion time was later in the morning and hold the town which they did , {Scuttling the U-529} the scuttling of a uboat carrying a The Naxos Radar Detector inside of a uboat facility in occupied Norway while those things above were real here where which is wrong 1 a uboat facility had top level security so it would have been impossible for any agent or resistance fighter to infilitrate 2, the U Boat 529 while real inactivated on 12 February. and was based in Kiel and not in Trondheim. 3. the Naxos was real but was not deployed by the Kriegsmarine until September 1943. {Operation Overlord} the beach landing while graphic and realistic on omaha had several things wrong 1 the whole level was based off saving private ryan beach landing , 2 the bunkers that were used were observation bunkers not emplacement bunkers , 3 the battle for omaha lasted for several hours not just a few minutes but understandable because a game can't last a few hours on 1 level , the bocage level was alright showing the Airborne troopers and sealanding troops linking up after the beach and the Nebelwerfer 42 i couldn't find any other inaccuracies other than a 88 being used to stop troops from moving , {Behind Enemy Lines} not much to say other than it was more the resistance/SOE that did the sabotage but the Karl-Gerät at the time was sent to warsaw to help with the uprising not destroyed in france and the The Tiger II (King Tiger) was not deployed into battle until July 11, 1944 {Day of the Tiger} not much to say other than the tiger 2 wasn't hijacked by the americans however the germans used 2 against the Canadians but ultimately destroyed during operation Atlantic and the rangers you find in the 1st level should belong the 28th infantry division , and the attack on Brest was just destroying a bridge it was taking the town which was taken by VIII or 8th Corps which didn't involve the 6th armored division it did include the 2nd rangers though {also the patch on the allied tank crew is not the 6th armored if anyone knows the patch let me down in the comments} and the final level return to Fort Schmerzen is a entire fictional level the supposed Fort Schmerzen is supposed to be on the Siegfried Line. during the ardennes offensive in 1945 but the location which is in the town or close to Metz was taken by the allies on the 13th of december while mustard gas did exist the germans did not use it , it was primary used by the Japanese and surprising Americans also Allied POW's were not kept in Fortresses to be used as labor according to the Geneva convention unless you were Jewish then you were sent to a slave labor camp and also im sure that the germans wouldn't have a weapons manufacture plant on the Seigfried line and if you are still part of the 2nd rangers you would have been assigned somewhere else or recovering from the disastrous hill 400 assault during early December 1944 and there you go Medal of honor may not be historical accurate game but it is a historical authentic game but is and always will be in my top 10 ww2 games hope this history lession helps if i missed any inaccuracies let me down in the comments
