UTTERLY BAD
Lot of mixed up. Here in there confusing part 1 and part 2. Its like the episode is such in a hurry. A bit disappointed actually knowing that the difficulties in the movie less heart burdened, the sadness is there but like only 60% were given. Less details. Should learn from the creator of The Walking Dead more realism.

Every scene in this the game has far better and more believable performances, not that the show is bad or anything but you can't top the game, maybe equal it if you cast better actors for the show.

Pedro plays Joel with more vulnerability and softness than Troy does (at least generally). I think there is an exception to this, which is how Troy plays him in Part II and there's a good reason for that:
Gameplay + Consistency
In gameplay Joel is almost constantly facing away from you, you have to fight enemies a lot, gameplay is inherently less grounded than the level of realism a show demands in this regard and you can't have as many little intimate moments between him and Ellie. What this means is that the kind of performance you get from Pedro wouldn't really fit the game, and if the series had Pedro imitate Troy more, then the benefit of a passive audience, less action and a free camera, you're not getting as much from Pedro's performance as you otherwise could.
And just to show this isn't a comparison both-sidesing thing, like I said, Troy Baker plays Joel a lot softer and more vulnerable in Part II. Why? Because he isn't the main playable character, he doesn't have to partake in a large amount of action and his moments in gameplay are more cinematic/intimate. You can hear the softness in his voice even, but the way he behaves is a lot more Pedro-like (or rather perhaps Pedro is more TLOU2 Troy-like).
Neil and Craig talk a fair bit about this aspect of adaptation in the podcast and bts and yeah... It does work like that, and the changes made to the show are justified. The approach molds itself after the capabilities, strengths and weaknesses of each respective medium, all the way down to how the actors portray their characters.
Troy's performance of Joel is canon.

Both works in their respective medium bc one requires a passive and one requires an active participation of the audience. Someone said that both can be viewed as a different timeline in TLOU universe. I'm okay with it. If the show is a retreading of the game, then what's the point for those that have already played the game? As a person who absolutely love the game, I absolutely love the show. They are both brilliant in their ways.

Game Ellie is light-years better than live action Ellie. I couldn't believe how bratty and rude Ellie was being to everyone in episode 6. In the game, she's a friendly kid. She's hoping to meet kids her age when she finds the fireflies, while in the show she barks at some girl(who I'm guessing was Dina) just for looking at her. She's rude to Maria and the couple in the beginning too. The showrunners wouldn't let the actors play the games because they wanted the actors to make their "own version" of the characters. It was a terrible call.

That was such a nice episode, and such a nice comparison :)
My favorite scene was - obviously - the original scene with Joel and Tommy, but I also love how accurate they adapted the scene with Joel and Ellie. :)
The ending of the episode was a little anticlimactic imho, but I do understand that Joel getting stabbed obviously makes more sense than him getting impaled (at least when it comes to his survival).
Either way, I love the show!

Watching the new episodes feels more like a chore as the weeks goes by. I mean, it's boring, maybe not trash, but more like "empty"

The hug in the show was way more emotional for me somehow. I felt all the pain and joy of Joel in that moment through Pedro Pascal. Just goes to show what a great actor he is. Same with the scene with Ellie and Joel and them going their separate ways. While the voice acting was great in the game, it just didn't convey all the human emotions that can be scene in their facial expression, them holding back their tears and all. I guess I just see them as in game character in the game, but in the show, I see them as real people. They made them more human in the show.
It is because they are real people in the show. I understand what you're saying but I have to say the show has a disadvantage of casting real people, and that is because we've seen for example Pedro Pascal as The Mandalorian and Oberyn Martell, so in that way you know it's not real and they're just acting where as the game those faces only exist there so in that sense they feel more real. If you think this version of the game is bad then look at 10 years ago... I'm really excited to see game graphics in another ten years or so, perhaps they'll get even more realistic.
@@Shyrsick COMPLETELY agree, if anyone thinks anything from the show is better than the game I have to laugh at them bc, it’s just not true. The games acting and how Joel and ellie bounce off each others personalities so naturally you can feel that connection through the game. I never once felt the show justified it’s existence bc it’s truly a downgrade from performances, character development, and likability. every single line used in the show that was taken from the game is so much drier and you feel tremendously less attached to the characters in the show than in the game, they simply perfected the characters in the game, so the show just comes off bland and emotionless, and there are times it succeeds in capturing that original game feeling, but it NEVER EVER comes close to what ashley Johnson and Troy baker did with the game, also Bella and Pedro are just not familiar with the games, so they end of feeling like completely different characters than the ones I’ve grown to love from the games. It’s very distasteful for me, but I hope others enjoyed it.

Great video as alwats but where was the seeing the monkeys scamper theough the quad comparison scene? And the talking about Joel wanting to be a singer and the maybe they turned into fuckin monkeys line. There was loads more scene for scene comparisons in the episode than what is shown here.

I really wish I could watch the series without comparing it to the game but I can't...in comparison the game is like x45 times better than the series, they changed literally everything in the series and nothing, absolutly none of the changes makes it better than the game, just the opposite.
Then you can add that you barely get to see any of the surroundings, the broken down cities, the huge areas of neighborhood and villas, the subways + all the woke stuff (there I said it, it's true tho) and another add to this is the bad acting from most of the cast, not all but many and this just makes this series everything that the game wasn't.
The series is okay but it is not The Last of Us.
It is totally fine that Neil Druckman is proud of the outcome of the series, he has the right to be.
But he should also know that as a fan I think he sold out his fucking ass by accepting all the changes they made, he allowed them to ruin big parts of what made the game good.
