This story brought me to tears. I'm a die-hard Biles fan, but now I'm rooting just as hard for Suni. I had no idea that such an ordeal her family was living, and yet, she manages to have the current, hardest uneven bars routine there is.
Her uneven bars routine was legendary. I’m rooting for her too and I will be praying for her family.
I can see her doing just as well as biles, she’s got a lot of potential. I hope her and her family do well
@@JanitaShowaars I see her doing great, now, as good as Biles, though, that I can't say. I mean, my grandparents witnessed Comaneci, now, I strongly believe that with Biles we are witnessing a legend unfolding itself right in front our eyes. Even if Biles retires right now, her legacy for gymnastics is written in gold for ever. Suni is amazing, but not on a history-making level like Biles.

My heart is sad for the families who sacrificed it all and cannot even go now because of COVID.
I agree, I wish the athletes could take at least one person. I don’t really get the issue if they’re vaccinated/get tested or quarantine as needed.

Sara you got it wrong. The reason Suni could performed the way she did is because the loving support from her parents and Hmong community. Not the pressure you thought she must have under. In fact she said she drew inspiration from all these adversity which also makes her stronger.

I couldn’t hold back the tears from filling up my eyes. She has so much strength to carry this load while balancing school, Olympic training and helping to look after her siblings while Mom checks on Dad. Sunisa you got this, I’m going to be cheering you on every step of the way.
I taught Hmong refugees, young and old, in a refugee camp in Thailand during the early 1990's and found Hmong students to be among my most favorites. During 2000's I met a bright doctoral Hmong student in the same class at IU School of Education. And now, a Hmong Olympic Gold medalist! Wow! How amazing!

Life can be so unfair no ironically cruel… she excels at a sport that involves every muscle and unfortunately her father is able to use his arms. Hopefully they’re both doing okay

What I like about this interview is, her dad (a Hmong man) supports his daughter and shows love. Happy to see Hmong men changing.
There are many good hmong men who are supportive and loving fathers and husbands. So many unsung heros. We are still here and we will continue to do what we do for our families despite what others may think or say. We don't need to prove or "change" for anyone bc we are busy living our lives and supporting and sacrificing for our children's dreams.
Since the 1950s the Hmong men hadn't not gone back. Im confuse on that statement.

I cried when Suni won gold! This is a win for her and her family . The hardships they faced and hours they spent away from each other. I’m a sad Mr. Lee wasn’t able to watch Suni win live. This is also a win for the Hmong and Asian American community. Especially with the racism and hardships Asian Americans have faced this really brings tears to my eyes. You go Suni! So Proud!
It’s surreal seeing this interview now from 1 year ago before anticipated 2020 Olympics and her dad saying he will crawl to Tokyo and to only have Covid stop everything.
Even for 2021 her family not allowed to travel. Perhaps a blessing in disguise.

Watching this after suni won a gold medal for the US
I was seriously unwell last year, and spent three weeks in intensive care. My companions throughout were two older men who had fallen off ladders while trimming trees. Please people be careful.
I became a fan of hers once I heard her story and saw her perform. The media has concentrated so much on Biles, that they've totally ignored the rest of the team that are just as good. In this case a lot better!!!
