he applied tower defense theory on that mission. making enemies run in a path so he can optimize the damage with his units and the colossi's beams. very well played.
To be fair, in this timeline none of the Protoss discovered the nature of their true threat until it was far too late as none connected to the memories of the Overmind. It's possible that as a result, Amon was able to construct his new body without the need of corrupting the Khala. In the LotV timeline, Amon became aware of at least one Protoss who realized the danger, likely sensing Zeratul's mission when he connected with the Overmind's memories on Aiur. Afterwards, after detecting that Zeratul had come to Aiur with Artanis, Amon may have deduced that Zeratul was now legitimately threatening to his plans, and thus Amon was forced to resort to additional measures.

+vincent bryan Reyes On this specific mission, its an alternate reality where Kerrigan died, and the resulting turn of events was that Amon had no challenge in controlling the Swarm, and there was no reclamation of Aiur, and thus Artanis did not to activate the Spear of Adun.
Doesn't matter to him really, 10k zerg is nothing when you considering they would be in the billions at this point. Losing some Hybrid would be bad but Amon really doesn't give a shit about anything but himself and maybe Duran.
"And my zerg... will be slaves... to the hybrid." The sorrow in the Overmind's voice is pretty haunting. The Overmind wasn't kidding when he called the zerg his children in SC1.
Man, those three DTs in the corner literally single handedly holding off an entire flank by themselves. Imagine just sitting there for hours, completely invisible, stabbing every zerg that comes out of that nydus worm.
I just noticed something really cool, the speech Artanis gives shortly after his arrival is very similar to the one he gives shortly before the battle for Aiur towards the end of the LoTV campaign
HOW TO WIN: Make a wall of DT and block each entrance. Press H to hold them in place once you line them up. Build Voids and Phoenix to kill the overlords so the walls stay up. Use you Control Q to quick-save if you mess up, so you do not have to start over. Upgrade air units and shields. Build Cannons on the inside with extra money. You do not need to build extra base. This is the easiest way to beat this level on brutal. This guy has amazing timing and skills sets, so if you want to beat the game in brutal and you are having a hard time, try this DT WALL method and keep your head stress free. Lata.
This is now impossible, they added a crazy amount of enemy aviation in 40 minutes(I was scared, I have never seen such quantity), now the worm does not appear on the northwest locations!
Where was Urun when Artanis was trying to take over Amon's forces? Also, Amon sounds different in this mission to how he does in Legacy of the Void... Actually, many aspects of Legacy of Void are different to Wings of Liberty. LotV tech would have made this mission much easier. Even just auto-casting graviton beam would've been super helpful.
I guess in the mythos of the fiction you could say, "The prophecy was an approximation of the future" but honestly Blizzard just changed stuff around to suit LotV rather than be consistent with Wings of Liberty. A mention or feature of Urun would have been nice at some point though. :/
I believe Niadra,(the same one from Enemy Within) kills him and all his forces archon merge for a mini last stand while some Terrans that were with them escape.
I don't even understand this nydus part actually. I suppose blizzard messed up when creating map and accidentally made this one nydus spawn zerglings instead of broodlings.
"You have no where to run and no where to hide..." "Every hand is turned against you even the ground beneath your feet carries the seeds of your destruction" 1/2 hour later "Alright, now I'm really getting pissed off." 1 hour later "Just die so I can finish my hot pocket, its cold!"
Cptn. KoKo The phrase should be "If this mission let us use Sentries, we can hold them much longer with Force Field and Guardian Shield" But that's the Precise reason why they don't let us use one. I think they (Blizzard) think that it'll be too cheap against AI who don't know how to micro around the Force Field.
书然李 They don't come that early; I think it's about 10 minutes in before they start showing up, but even so, Guardian Shield still greatly reduce the damage we took, even it look puny at 2 damage, but it adding up... Not to mention Illusions they cast; even if the Overseer spotted them, we can still use it as a pseudo wall considering that A-move will ignore the illusions when in presence of the real one, and this's AI we're talking about, so I doubt they'll micro their units to kill the illusion blocking their path.
That is Korean for sure. I mean he lost cause he mined out his base and the expansion which is pretty much deisgned to be unholdable. He had no more money to replace his cybernetics cores and no more money for archons to get rid of the north corruptor fleets.
I've almost go insane doing 2500 on brutal. Your video helped me a lot. The top left nidus didn't spawn tho. The walls are the real power, it's insane how much damage they soaked in.
This video is simply amazing ! The level Brutal after killing 2500 units becomes the Brutal for " Nightmare Overmind " !!! Note that the level actually increases . Congratulations to resist both .
That is an obscene number of hybrids! Seriously. Before watching this video, I always thought the hybrids were under utilized in the campaigns. Most missions to even feature them only have between 5-10 tops. I gotta say that totally satisfied any and all cravings I had to see more of them in action.
Very impressive. And thanks. I was struggling to get the "Blaze of Glory" achievement on Normal and your tactic of building Cybernetics Cores to force them into a tunnel worked great. I didn't do nearly as well as you (only got about 2300 kills). I kept trying to use a dark templar wall but it falls apart around 1500 when they start sending detectors.
+St3a1thsniper32 I tried that for a while but I'm just not fast enough. Those detectors get within range of your DT wall very quickly after spawning. Using buildings as much sturdier, though vulnerable walls, worked a lot better.
Just mass pheonix from 4 stargates and keep some observers around close to where they spawn. The observers instant death will let you know that you need to go on a sniping run ASAP. You can get to 2500 but it's tricky cause if your pheonix is out of position just once then one of your walls will fall. requires frequent saving. Behind this you should be getting at least 10 collossi and wall off the top ramps with nexuses or cyber cores.
basically my strategy was make a wall of dark templars on all the ramps by putting them on hold position. After that i just mass up phoenix to do 2 things: 1 kill all the air units like mutas and 2 kill the overseers that eventually come with the waves (otherwise units can see my dt wall...which doesn't work too well). I never got this far but i also didn't put a ton of time into it and im not as good as this guy. idk how well it really works but i got the achievements with it so im happy.
you sir, are a jedi.. if zerg ever invade earth.. i want to be by your house. With that strategy, you could have lasted indefinitely, if you had infinite crystals and gas.. :-) p.s. you definitely did the protoss justice.
I'm willing to bet it wouldn't be so hard to do more. I saw a speedrun which only ended because the guy attacked his own units in order to time the ending. Until he started doing that, he set up a line of DTs at each entrance, and sniped detectors with his air units. The enemy's super big units were irrelevant since they couldn't get past the invisible line and the DTs delivered waves of death all on their own. I'd love to see someone pull that strategy in this context.
TomorrowLand For me, this stage felt a bit like "What a strange game. The only winning move is not to play" when I found out that I had to survive until well... I ran out of resources (or was overwhelmed).
+TomorrowLand I don't mean to necro, but I love this level. All you have to do is fuck shit up. You lose all the same and as long as you hit the objectives it's all good. The futility of it all.
"Amon, I've come to bargain" "You've come to die" 1 hour later "You will never win" "No but I can lose, again, and again and again, forever and ever. Which makes you my prisonor" "NO, Stop! MAKE THIS STOP! Set me free"
Honestly, this level of micro wouldn't even be fun for me - not that I'm even going to pretend I'd be capable of it, but all the same.. I'd say this was a damn impressive run, but I think that term may be inadequate. Need to consult a thesaurus. xD Very nicely done. ^_^
Enjoyed watching. Better to change to immortals at later stage instead of coloss. I would wish that we would get more of kind this kind of maps from Blizzard, and the starcraft community. En taro caterpie.
This reminds me of the movie 300 where Xerxes (aka Amon) is just fukin throwin wave after wave of his disposable units to the Spartan choke point in Thermopaylae
Good play, I liked the corridors between the cores and the archons on the ledges. I think the lings killed by the DT's in the top corner amount to like 6000 kills though (about 25 every 10 seconds I think). Good job lasting 68 minutes though, I think I got up to 50 with close to 4000 kills wo knowing of the ling/nydus exploit (not that this makes a difference of about 4000 kills)

I tried playing against AI, but as soon as the computer typed "GG" when I got inside their base, (didn't even let the match finish, just resigned like a human player), my thoughts about online play was basically "f@(/ this s#!- I'm out."
Then I tried the tutorial missions for fun, and finally realized, "Holy balls...Blizzard is flat out training people to play exactly the same way! NOPE, I'M DONE." I have not spent a second on online play since.
now I don't imagine Amon's hybrid would be strong enough to defeat a Jim, Zeratul, and Kerrigan with the same skill level of this guy.
Actually, it would be cool to have bonus missions showing us how the terran were consumed and how the zerg were controlled once again.
Mike Wang i agree that would be great
I actually think they should've had a mission like that where you play as the hybrid taking over the zerg!
Ow my god his dead already
For the Terrans it would be pretty much "All In", except Raynor shoots Kerrigan instead of Tychus, but then they get massively overrun.
Good play. he didn't lost a lot of units in the middle.
Seeing that if he has unlimited minerals, he can defend endlessly.
the position of the "B-Y" is crucial.
He did it really flawlessly.
Rajiv Aiyar yeh, the cyber core wall kept going further back
Well, I think the waves would be either to strong to defend against or to much so that the game just crashes (or the computer dies). Because, I don´t think that you can defend forever with an army worth 200 supply and nothing more but cannons.
As many times as I've played this level, this was the first time it felt like a last stand. Brilliant strategy with the cybercores.
Those 3 dark templars were like : Mehh we are gonna kill stuff until we get detected ^_x
I'm almost certain that this is the golden armada
you had enough to warp in 3 more zealots bro
Such a failure of optimisation should not go unpunished, lol.
sartte Saving the minerals to replace interceptors ;)
Also he just threw away the probes, could of long distance mined the gold base
@@Nerizwith he effectively mined like 97% of the minerals there. Wouldn't be worth even trying to long distance mine.
@@skulkerbro7603 yes but it would be more effective than throwing the probes in the trash
Who needs Kerrigan when you have this guy
Hybrids have the same light tendrils as the angels from Diablo.
Starcraft Hybrids confirmed Angels of the Diablo universe.
UncensoredRhett Or rather that Amon is a huge Diablo fan and designed the hybrids in their style.
Cristian Martinez LOL
yea, not gonna lie, I cried when I experienced this fight, they fought to the last and tried as hard as possible to live... These mothafuckas are brave.
I am VERY impressed i havent been able to get past this mission at all and he tore them up all the way to 10,000+ it pays to study this video well and often just for the fun of it and learning a strategy that seems to work wonders on what is a difficult mission to say the least --- Congrats to caterpie for his excellant work !!!!
This is how raynor died!...watching this never ending prophecy! Awesome play.
If this is the last stand of the protoss, How does he warp in stuff if the entire universe is purged by Amon?
Lol you re right
+Leon Piruze i guess there's the spear of adun as their last source of tech and units
vincent bryan Reyes But the spear of Adun is on Aiur
Nope, i'm afraid its a toss capital ship that goes wherever there is artanis
+vincent bryan Reyes On this specific mission, its an alternate reality where Kerrigan died, and the resulting turn of events was that Amon had no challenge in controlling the Swarm, and there was no reclamation of Aiur, and thus Artanis did not to activate the Spear of Adun.
Defend until the last protoss falls !
40 Min : *Is sending all his probe to death*
Not very cost effective game by amon ..
Cheating noob.
If he was not in casual difficulty,he might probably edit the map of brutal difficult. He's a liar. He lied to everyone seeing this video.
馬崇瀚 usual chinese throwing accusation without evidence
Doesn't matter to him really, 10k zerg is nothing when you considering they would be in the billions at this point. Losing some Hybrid would be bad but Amon really doesn't give a shit about anything but himself and maybe Duran.
thepainsight if he gave a shit about Duran he wouldn't let Stukov kamehameha him without at least trying to do something about it
Protoss kills 12,000 enemies
Amon: Let's just bug out and call it even. You win this time
I remember I used a lot of Dark templars in this missión, very effective!
untill those fucking overlords
*****
hybrids don't reveal
Yep in hold position it's perfect. And use skytoss.
But the tower defense technic is amazing
Countless Executors were appointed that dark day :O
The number of dead enemies...its.......OVER NINE THOUSAAAAAAAND!!!!!!!!!
Single most impressive gameplay I've seen. I knew that high yield spot is worth the taking.
"And my zerg... will be slaves... to the hybrid."
The sorrow in the Overmind's voice is pretty haunting. The Overmind wasn't kidding when he called the zerg his children in SC1.
For those Dark Templars in the upper left corner there should be a unique rank for the insane amount of kills they got :P
I mean wtf 1,010 it's like those dark templars were the embodiment of their war gods cause hory shyt
This is the helms deep of the starcraft universe.
Man, those three DTs in the corner literally single handedly holding off an entire flank by themselves. Imagine just sitting there for hours, completely invisible, stabbing every zerg that comes out of that nydus worm.
At a final stand war troll probes and protoss soldiers wants more minerals and gas to work and go to battle
I just noticed something really cool, the speech Artanis gives shortly after his arrival is very similar to the one he gives shortly before the battle for Aiur towards the end of the LoTV campaign
This is the most epic fight I've ever seen in any video game.
Amon: Starcraft is not a tower defend game
Caterpie: Hold my Cyber Cores
Imagine if this map had a lot more resources lol
Heroes never die
Big game Hunter
16:36 "Satisfactory" ( then the archons dancing ) xD satisfaction
1:27 One of my favorite Dark Voice lines. It just shows that everyone else is merely an instrument.
An edited version of this map but with LotV tech would be interesting. I wonder if it exists.
Shield Batteries. 'Nuff said.
I believe Niadra,(the same one from Enemy Within) kills him and all his forces archon merge for a mini last stand while some Terrans that were with them escape.
haha god I was like what is this nydus for, and then I saw the zerglings and the free kills.. pretty smart move!
I don't even understand this nydus part actually. I suppose blizzard messed up when creating map and accidentally made this one nydus spawn zerglings instead of broodlings.
I love the Protoss! A fine last stand, sir. GG
There are at least three dozen skill sets to recreate this masterpiece. This is art.
"You have no where to run and no where to hide..." "Every hand is turned against you even the ground beneath your feet carries the seeds of your destruction"
1/2 hour later
"Alright, now I'm really getting pissed off."
1 hour later
"Just die so I can finish my hot pocket, its cold!"
I once had fun adding every Hero Unit from the campaign to this map in the level editor, but THIS is legit impressive.
if this mission used terran instead of protoss i think it can hold much longer
Cptn. KoKo The phrase should be "If this mission let us use Sentries, we can hold them much longer with Force Field and Guardian Shield"
But that's the Precise reason why they don't let us use one. I think they (Blizzard) think that it'll be too cheap against AI who don't know how to micro around the Force Field.
machaiping What about ultralisks? They do crush forcefield, right?
书然李 They don't come that early; I think it's about 10 minutes in before they start showing up, but even so, Guardian Shield still greatly reduce the damage we took, even it look puny at 2 damage, but it adding up...
Not to mention Illusions they cast; even if the Overseer spotted them, we can still use it as a pseudo wall considering that A-move will ignore the illusions when in presence of the real one, and this's AI we're talking about, so I doubt they'll micro their units to kill the illusion blocking their path.
Cptn. KoKo Meanwhile you'd have SCVs going "Woohoo! Overtime!" while the fate of an entire race is at hand. XD
Cptn. KoKo Imagine a mix of the two. Siege tanks and the toss units XD

Did this guy create Tower Defense?
Илья Созин no this is a part of Starcraft II's campaign missions.
Илья Созин This is epic :D
Tower deffence was created way back in 2003 with warcraft 3's secret mission.
it is a legit strategies.
On a scale of 1 to Korean how good are you at starcraft?
+Nick Rymer hahahaha 1 to korean
That is Korean for sure. I mean he lost cause he mined out his base and the expansion which is pretty much deisgned to be unholdable. He had no more money to replace his cybernetics cores and no more money for archons to get rid of the north corruptor fleets.

Hell, you could fend off an entire galaxy of hybrids with this tactic.
So long as the resources don't deplete.
Just imagine what will happen if the Protoss have shield battery back in WoL? This game will almost last forever
Now just imagine if Protoss were able to build Bunkers and Siege Tanks. Amon would've died of old age.
That is an obscene number of hybrids! Seriously. Before watching this video, I always thought the hybrids were under utilized in the campaigns. Most missions to even feature them only have between 5-10 tops. I gotta say that totally satisfied any and all cravings I had to see more of them in action.
If you'd had Deploy Fenix you would have lasted a few more hours tho...
This is Wings of Liberty... not Legacy of the Void
Sinchu9 Yea i know
What if he had Deploy Chuck Norris?
Knowbody Total Annihilation of Amon within seconds
A picture of Chuck Norris is enough to defeat Amon.
+Thrifty032781 Make pheonix to take out detectors, That's what I do. I can usally get to about 2500 kills before DT wall falls.
+St3a1thsniper32 I tried that for a while but I'm just not fast enough. Those detectors get within range of your DT wall very quickly after spawning. Using buildings as much sturdier, though vulnerable walls, worked a lot better.
Whatever works for you :D
Those DT's though...lol
666 lol
anyway someone should make the final mission. With Terrans.
dammmn you memorized time and type of attack from each side.I can see number of tries you made. impressive job.
Thanks so much! I tried this strategy myself and made it to 19 kills! :D
you sir, are a jedi.. if zerg ever invade earth.. i want to be by your house. With that strategy, you could have lasted indefinitely, if you had infinite crystals and gas.. :-) p.s. you definitely did the protoss justice.
This is the best stage of all RTS games I've played .
I fucking hate this level....you play knowing you got to give up or fight till you run out of resources...there is no winning....I MUST ALWAYS WIN!!
"Amon, I've come to bargain"
"You've come to die"
1 hour later
"You will never win"
"No but I can lose, again, and again and again, forever and ever. Which makes you my prisonor"
"NO, Stop! MAKE THIS STOP! Set me free"
Starcraft version of Helms Deep :)
Oh my god, I love the cy-core funnel thing you've got going on, it's ingenious.
Well done, it's like tower defense
Nothing screams PTSD like “NOT ENOUGH MINERALS.”
7:36 that’s a pretty good amount of enemies you killed
Urun: There's just too many of them...
Human voice: But there are more of us, Admiral. There are more of us.
The combined UED Armada shows up.
21:55 *Looks at remaining video. "Still got time to finish my pizza rolls."
Honestly, this level of micro wouldn't even be fun for me - not that I'm even going to pretend I'd be capable of it, but all the same.. I'd say this was a damn impressive run, but I think that term may be inadequate. Need to consult a thesaurus. xD
Very nicely done.
2 Archons holding back the swarm alone at 43:57. True heroes.
