Child Neglect. - Back home if you're in the same house a baby monitor is a great plan. On a ship, they are decks and decks away. Their plan sounds a lot like going across the street to the neighbor's house to eat. At home you'd earn a visit from Child Protective Services.
Actually, childcare for those under 3 is not free. Just sailed on Freedom of the Seas with my 16 month old granddaughter and it cost about $8.00 an hour during the evening. Still a bargain and she was safely sleeping with caregivers present. As much money as this couple makes on UA-cam, paying for care should be a no-brainer and definitely something they could easily afford.
I listened attentively throughout this entire video; I'd NEVER leave my kids alone in the cabin. I also wanted to say I loved seeing your fur baby pop up in the background while you recorded 😻
Ha, he's such a little butt, but I adore him (his name is Alex). I noticed he hopped up there during the video but figured I'd let him costar since he loves the camera ;)
The couple needs to be banned from cruising on every cruise line. Child protection services need to remove the children from their care. Also they need to be charged with child abandonment and child endangerment. Definitely not the first time that this has happened. They definitely should not be parents as they are totally irresponsible parents.
Since they took the monitor, they planned to use it. There were other opportunities like afternoon naps and late night entertainment. They just hadn't posted what they were doing then.
Now, they’re claiming someone was in the room with their kids… Yes, they need to own up to this, it would be a sign of maturity to accept responsibility for making bad decisions.
Yeah, I was so ready to give them grace, but their backtracking is frustrating. I'm not going to call them outright liars, but nobody PACKS a baby monitor and then "facetimes" with said baby monitor while at dinner to observe their sleeping children who are being supervised by a trusted family member in a 250 sq ft room. I mean, c'mon...
I have watched a few of their podcasts and these immature children shouldn't even be married let alone have kids. They have no level of maturity at all. Matt gaslights and treats Abby terrible, and she just accepts it. They also could have had Matts parents watch the kids as well. They went on this cruise with his parents.
Ohhh interesting. I knew nothing of this couple before this mess, but your description kinda makes me want to go watch their old videos. And yeah, in one of the pics she posted, you can see a couple sitting across from them at dinner. Those are probably the parents that they're now trying to backtrack and claim that these are the "trusted family" who WERE watching the kids, which they facetimed the baby monitor. Yeah, right.
Craziness! No excuse really. We have taken turns at times when we have had to and if the kids are napping, we bring food back to the cabin. If we are on a family holiday, romantic luxuries are sometimes sacrificed. It’s a part of parenting. 🤷🏻♀️
If they have that big of a following, they can probably afford to bring a sitter or a family member along. As a teenager, I was asked to go several places with families I babysat for. I was always told my trip would be completely paid and that I would get lots of "off" time. I was just expected to watch the kids a couple of nights, a couple of hours during the day, etc...whatever it was would be agreed upon ahead of time. I'd be paid the hours worked as well. They had to have known leaving their kids like that could be a horrible idea! Anything could happen. They're very lucky that it didn't. I worry that they may try something again and not tell anyone next time.
When we were new parents we were so exhausted at one point my husband told me he was getting a hotel room and suggested I do the same. 😂 Of course neither of us got a hotel room and left our baby home alone but I mean the brain plays tricks on us when we are so exhausted. I do agree that if they brought a baby monitor along then they knew what they were doing but I am still hoping maybe they had an adjoining cabin with a family member or someone else they were traveling with that was watching the babies when they went to dinner. I don’t know all the facts but regardless of what really happened I hope they are more careful going forward. Maybe they should even reconsider if they really want to overshare their lives and especially those of their kids with the entire world.
I didn't let my son stay alone in a hotel (or even at home) until he was in high school. With strict instructions to keep phone nearby and to answer any texts or phone calls from us.
I’ve cruised many times and this summer was the first time I left my kids alone in the room. They are 15 and 10 and they’re not allowed to leave the room and walk around the boat without us.
So yes I think this was a stupid thing to do and they certainly shouldn’t have shared it with their viewers as if it was some kind of hack, but I don’t think this is the most dangerous thing ever. Certainly not another Madeline situation. They were in a locked room and put to sleep in their individual sleeping tents with the monitoring system on. Also apparently a family member checking on them, but I don’t think I believe that part lol The worst thing that could happen was a kid could have suffocated in a blanket or something? Which could happen randomly in the night anyway. But I think the chance for one of the kids to wake up, get out of the tent, open the room door or veranda door (if there was one) and get far enough to do damage to themselves is extremely low. And of course the room was locked so no one would likely be getting in. Again, dumb decision, but it wasn’t the most dangerous thing ever and not as bad as the situation Melissa mentioned. In that situation, if I’m remembering right, the patio door of a GROUND LEVEL room at a resort was left open and the child went missing. That is a much worse scenario than this.
They just posted a video explaining everything. someone was in the room with the kids and they were watching the monitor while they were in the black out tents to check on them.
They are just trying to cover their backside now, because of the backlash from their video. I do not believe there was another person in their stateroom besides their 2 children.
I just wish they would own up to it and admit their mistake an imperfections. I actually think people would respect that. But no, now they're claiming the children were supervised. Okay, so you packed baby monitors and then facetimed those baby monitors while your trusted family member watched the sleeping children in a tiny cruise cabin? And you happened to mention every other minutia of your trip, but just omitted the supervision fact? Okay, Jan...
@@ProfMelissa The art of being humbled gracefully has been lost, and I don't think we are in the minority who would respect them just owning it and using it as a teaching moment for their followers. Keep up the great work i really enjoy your adventures and point of view
Thank you for asking for a bit grace for these parents. They are usually very attentive to their kids. I think their mistake of thinking it’s safe kinda like being in a large house, kids locked safely asleep in their bed and them eating dinner is not what you do. I wonder if the backlash of owning it would bring additional “heat/judicial/humiliation” so they are keeping quiet. I pray they understand completely their issue and wrong decisions. I will say they normally take a set of grandparents with them if they want to have alone time during a trip, I think this was a very wrong decision thinking the kids sleep through the night, we are in dining room, we have monitors so if we see them stirring we can get there but we have all made mistakes as parents that could have gone very wrong and thankfully it didn’t, so glad the kids are same unharmed and none the wiser. Mom & Dad hopefully will learn a valuable lesson and maybe another parent who was possibly thinking the same way now sees it differently. If every parent was judged solely on the worst parenting mistake they ever made there would be no great parents. @MattandAbby acknowledge your mistake as you are good parents who made a bad decision and you have social media careers so it far more painful, replayed, out for all the opinions but it will pass.
I wouldn't be surprised if someone reported them to children's service for child neglect.

Endangerment. full stop. Kids are NOT accessories.

When we took our two year old we also took the grandparents too. They thought they had a free cruise on us 😂

💯
That would be considered child neglect on land.
Since they took the monitor, they planned to use it. There were other opportunities like afternoon naps and late night entertainment. They just hadn't posted what they were doing then.
Yep. And now they're denying it. Just own up to it and admit you were wrong!

Just like how you would leave your 1 and 2 year old at home to go to dinner you should leave them in a cruise Stateroom to go to dinner either

The thumbnail made me think this was on the Carnival Celebration
Nope, never 😉
No grace here, very bad parenting. Absolutely no excuse.
Totally agree and Royal Caribbean should ban them permanently.
Is baby care free on royal? (Under 3 isn't free on disney cruise line)
Under 3 is not free on Royal either

This. Who facetimes a baby monitor if their children are being supervised by a family member? That's wild.
Some people just can't take responsibility and learn from their mistakes. God forbid your not perfect on social media
