- 📢 When it comes to the cute and adorable Cavapoo, the dog you get is going to vary a ton depending on what generation you get. These changes can include coat type, if they are non-shedding or hypoallergenic, and maybe most importantly their health and genetic makeup. All of that is important to note when picking out your own Cavapoo to add to your family, which is why today we’re going through the Cavapoo generations step by step to help you make the best choice for you.
👉 A Quick Overview
🐶 F1 Cavapoo
The F1, as the first cross, is a 50/50 split between the poodle and Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, and because of this is one of the most common options that breeders will carry, since they are the literal first result. In spite of this, the F1 doesn’t have the best genes, at least in terms of predictability.
🐶 F1B Cavapoo
The F1B is about 75% poodle and 25% Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, meaning that it's more likely that the poodle traits start showing over the latter. If you are in the market for an “allergy-friendly” Cavapoo, this is most likely what you’ll be getting, since this variation holds some of the most poodle characteristics on this list.
🐶 F1BB Cavapoo
This results in a Cavapoo that is 87.5% poodle and only 12.5% spaniel, which only enhances the poodle traits that started taking over in the F1B generation. This means almost daily grooming and brushing for your Cavapoo, as that coat is going to be very curly and not shed one bit. Expect to get the clippers out yourself or send them to a professional every 6 to 12 weeks with an F1BB Cavapoo, but on the flip side if you’re a fan of the poodle’s genetics than this might be a great option for you.
🐶 F2 Cavapoo
The F2 resets the poodle’s reign as the dominant trait on our list, as crossing two F1 Cavapoos to create an F2 will still leave the balance at 50/50 even. We’re not going to talk a lot about this option today, since most breeders stay away from them for a variety of reasons. For one, they still aren’t very predictable in determining what kind of coat they have, as well as if they are going to shed or not.
🐶 F2B Cavapoo
If you back cross an F2 Cavapoo with a purebred poodle you’re going to get a dog that is about 62.5% poodle, but if you cross two F1B Cavapoo’s you’re going to end up with a dog that is about 75% poodle, so that is more likely to be done when you get an F2B from a breeder. This dog has substantial poodle genes, and is a third generation Cavapoo. It’s going to have a wavy or curly coat, and be pretty likely to have non-shedding qualities too.
🐶 F2BB Cavapoo
The F2BB is the result of back crossing the F2B with another purebred poodle, which makes it about 81.25% poodle to 18.75% Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. This dog is going to have the most non-shedding and hypoallergenic traits of the versions on this list, and so is the top pick for people with allergies. Since it is all but guaranteed that the F2BB will have curly hair, you will have to get the ol’ clippers out to avoid matting and discomfort in your Cavapoo, but this is a small price to pay for a dog that isn’t going to have you sneezing or worse!
🐶 F3 Cavapoo
This variation can vary from wavy to super curly, and inherits a lot of the poodle genetics that we have been talking about throughout the list. Since most breeders will just use the blanket term of multi-gen, you can always be upfront and ask them outright what this pup’s official signifier is, and they’ll tell you. This is useful since it's still important to roughly know what your dog is made up of, and can be helpful down the line.

I have an F1B that has the non shedding coat but more of a shorter cav snout (and big eyes) ... she's very cute!!
In two days I am getting a first generation toy cavoodle. I had no idea what F1 and all those other labels meant this video has definitely given me a better understanding- super educational I am really hoping though that my puppies hair ends up going curly and doesn't shed much but I guess we'll just have to see how it goes :))) awesome video
Thanks for the support! 🙏
Do you have pictures of you're puppies??
WooooW, I gotta hv one of these guys in my life!! I'm allergic to grass & shedding dogs,😢 however, this guide is jus wht I need to make my decision. I wld love my baby to stay curly for the long haul & thanx-a-million for these gold nuggets of information. 🐾🐾
I need a small dog that doesn’t bark his head off, and can be chill when people say hi, or come into the house. Also, he can’t be too heavy. You never know when you have to carry him upstairs.
So good to hear a potential new dog owner that considers the effect a barking dog will have your your own ears, let alone your neighbours. Small dogs are typically 'barkers' unless they are diligently trained over months to years. Do not get a Cavoodle if barking is a concern for you! It's not fair to you OR the dog. But again, great to see you are being conscientious about such decisions! 😉👍🏻💯
Awww I found my girl Connie is a 2nd Generation on one side of her family, but 3rd generation on her other side. LOL we have an extra poodle in the mix!
Her coat is wavy and 100% non-shedding and is the sweetest most playful pup you'll ever meet.
i have a F1 Cavapoo Parker love him dearly so playful and loves attention!! he sheds a tiny bit just needs to be brushed every other day and hes fine...
Yes, F1's tend to shed a little bit. We love Cavapoos! Definitely one of the best small doodle breeds.
Here in Australia we call them cavoodles
I love my Cavapoo ! He is so sweet and extremely smart!!
Why aren’t there any variations with a Cavapoo crossed with a CKCS?
Mines 9weeks old very clever and smart.
Excellent with children
I have a cavapoo their the best … mine has a lot of allergies has to be on a hydrolized diet
this was so helpful, thank you
You're so welcome!
Thank you. I always wondered what all these different codes meant. I think I’m leaning towards an F1. ❤
Yeah F1 is 50% Poodle and 50% Golden Retriever!
Very very nice video!! By any chance, do you have pictures or videos of puppies of two FIB Cavapoos ??
No yet. Did you have any specific questions though? We can help answer them.
@@WeLoveDoodles Hello! Sorry for the delay. Basically what I would like to see is how the puppies will come out crossing 2 F1B Cavapoos. Would the percentages be the same, 75% Poodle and 25% Cavalier?
Interesting, I found a breeder that was selling puppies the dad is a cavapoo and the mom is a cavalier so that would still make it an f1b?
Yeah it would be a Reverse F1B assuming the Cavapoo is an F1
F1....I'm sorry..but the best ....
I have an F1. Her name is Tulip 🌷
F1s are great! Hi tulip!!
You can't beat a cavapoo ,I love mine more than any human
We love Cavapoos! Great dog breed!
How likely are you to find the black and tan color mix in a Cavapoo?
It’s rare. Not unheard of though. You’ll be looking for a parti Cavapoo.
Im in the market for cavapoo I’m curious how much you guys adopted for?? Please help because I see different prices from $800 to $1000
My 9 year daughter of cav came from Missouri I paid $3500

With all that back crossing with poodles, why not just get a poodle,? 😮
Pay attention. The Cavalier brings a calmer demeanor, and lots of aesthetic options.
Get one if you hate your neighbours. They are notorious for separation anxiety and barking when left alone.
😂
My next door neighbor has six chihuahuas, I’m not concerned
Straight haired cavapoo ftw
Yes, the cute teddy bear look ❤️🐶
@WeLoveDoodles straight haired cavapoo is not the Teddy bear look
ITS A FRANSE KRUKHAAR FOR REAL
Huh?
I have a gorgeous cavapoo f1b toy on my channel
We saw, we really like it!
What’s your channel? Sorry if a dumb question, I’m still new at this.
Hi my is Toni
Hi Toni!
I have a F2 Cavapoo. He is the absolute worst dog I’ve ever raised. Completely untrainable. In my life I have raised two Chihuahua Pomeranian mixes, a Schipperke, an Australian Shepherd, German Shepherd, a black lab, a Field spaniel, a Chesapeake Bay retriever and this Cavapoo. Out of all these dogs the Cavapoo has been my only regret. Unfortunately at my age this could possibly be my last dog.
Oh, this is strange. Poodles are incredibly smart, what methods did you use to train?
Then why is it your avatar photo? I smell b.s. 😊
