After a few nights I moved the kennel to the floor beside my bed and that’s her nightly routine now. Once when I was later going to bed, Penny Maxine crawled into her kennel and got in her bed all by herself. I highly recommend this breed. My grandchildren love her and she loves them.

There is a difference between a “watch dog” and a “guard dog.” We have a very vocal and adorable Cavapoo. She runs, barking loudly, whenever she hears our front gate open. She’s a watch dog…watches and listens for signs of someone at the gate and notifies us by her actions and excited barking. I grew up with German Shepards. They are usually guard dogs. They hear the gate open, and they don’t say much…maybe a low growl. And their message is, “Stay put, folks. I’ll take care of this!” 😁 I would never expect our sweet Cavy to be a guard dog…she is way too in love with people and other dogs! And don’t be fooled by hearing that Cavapoos aren’t barkers! I’ve heard and read Comments from Cavy folks that many a cavy can be mad barkers! 🐶😁
Our cavapoo is 11 weeks old. We have had him for 2 weeks. We are retired so separation anxiety is not an issue. He loves everyone. However, we have owned other dogs including a papillon/ mini dachshund mix, a bichon frise, and a samoyed. All were much much easier to potty train than this cavapoo boy. We take him out every 30 minutes and he does his business, but then he comes back inside and has an accident 10 minutes later. Hoping this difficult housetraining is successful soon because this training is hard on an older couple. He is also difficult to walk on a leash, very hyperactive outdoors. Otherwise he's a nice dog, but we wish we had known in advance how hard puppyhood training can be, as we had never experienced this with our other breeds. We believe in rescue and tried to go that route, but all the available rescue dogs were very large breeds, mostly pitt mixes, which would be impossible for us at age 80 even though we're very active. Hope we can survive our cav's puppyhood.

I've only had a Cavalier, and she was a big sweetie. It sounds like Cavapoos have all of the things that make Cavaliers such wonderful dogs plus a lot of energy and intelligence. That sounds like a great mix! I was surprised to hear that they barked a lot, though. Cavaliers are pretty quiet dogs, only vocal when they have something to tell you, so that must be the poodle side.
I beg to differ. We often laughed because we chose a female Cavalier. She was spade ... so no hormones. She barked at everything that went by the window. After all, everyone should know it was HER street. She was sweet, funny, and loving - she would lick you to death ... but she barked. A lot.

My wife and I just got a Cavapoo back in August 2020 from a breeder in Pennsylvania.. He was 8 weeks old at the time. He'll be 6 months come Christmas. I will say this video is spot on. Very friendly with everyone. A con to that is that it can make taking them out for walks in crowded areas kinda tough since they just want hugs from everyone they see and vice versa. You'll get tons of compliments on how cute they are. Separation anxiety is a thing, too. They LOVE to be near you. Most days, he's just taking a nap by my feet while I work. My advice is to not give in to their whimpers. Let them cry at night sometimes and don't always take them with you when you leave. Keep them in a playpen or crate where they have room to move around. Ours is 12lbs at the moment and they 24-inch crate we have for him is already too small. I am going to upgrade to a 30-inch like this one www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01DLS2EYW/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 . Ours would always cry at night before bed. At first we would give them a treat before bed so that they know it is a good place to be. But we found out that the 5-10 minutes of crying after we put them to bed was due to them just wanting more treats rather than missing us lol. We stopped giving him treats before bed and now he doesn't cry anymore. One last thing, this video is right, they are VERY smart. Don't underestimate them because they learn very quickly. For example, he now knows how to unlatch his crate just by watching me do it a few times. I taught him in a couple of hours to sit, laydown, stay (still working on perfecting this one) and up! They are very fast and at times can have TONS of energy. But at the same time they can be chillllllll. Potty training is a bit tough but because we've been able to work from home, it's been a lot easier to take them out. The best advice for potty training is to above all, expect accidents to occur and don't get mad at them for doing it. Just clean it up and keep pushing. The second thing is to make sure you make the effort to take them out during the day at least 2-3 times for potty breaks. More if you have the time to do so. Keep a few pads around the house and when they go on the pad, give them lot's of praise and treats. They'll eventually learn. Ours just started walking to the door when he needs to go outside which is very cool. Might try to teach him to ring a bell next lol. Anyway, this is a long post, but hope this helps. This is my first dog ever and he is amazing!
For anyone that has a cavapoo AND a cat, does the separation anxiety play a big part? It may be different with another dog, I’m not sure but does a brother/sister help them deal with being left home alone any easier?
My cats haven’t helped her be calm when I leave the house. She pretty much loses it. She does love her cat siblings though - loves to play! Sometimes too much for my one dog 😂
My cavoodle is snuggling up with me while I watch this. She is the most gentle and loving dog BUT she also chews & swallows everything. I'm pretty sure I've spent more on vet bills than I did buying her. She also took forever to toilet train.
We are having a hard time finding a way to stop our Calpoop from using the bathroom everywhere. Plus he chew up anything he get his mouth on. Also he! Do go crazy, if he is left along for a couple of hours an he is 8 months. I am asking for help. Thank you in advance. 😢
I think that separation anxiety can be prevented with regular training and lots of toys and scents while your not around I don’t have a dog but I’m guessing you can leave scavenger hunts around the house and things with your scent on to stop boredom and loneliness
I'm not sure i necessarily agree with you when you say having children isnt a good idea since cavapoos need so much attention. I dont own one but dozens of videos ive watched said they are phenomenal withh kids of all ages including infants. youre the first video to say not to get one when you have children.
He says they were first bred in USA in the 50's but so many others say they started in Australia. If that is right then so many contributors are cons. .??
Potty training!!!. I have a mini schnauzer and she has never once done inside. Always on her pads or out the yard but my brother has a cavepoo and she s running around with a loose bladder.
@@liammuirhead8089 Going by what was said in the video. But thanks for sharing your experience. Now I won’t have to rule out Cavapoo when I go looking for a dog.
James F, I agree with Liam Muirhead. In my experience, it was not difficult at all to potty train a Cavapoo. I had a wonderful one, Buddy, who was sweet, smart and easy to train. He was potty trained in 10 days. Don't know if it was due to my method or if I was just lucky. I used a method that a dog trainer recommended. You tether your dog to you so he can't wander off & pee somewhere in the house when you are unaware. It also gives you the chance to figure out the signs or vocalizations he displays when he needs to go potty. This may not be feasible for some owners & it may sound time consuming, but it really works. That method is easy with a Cavapoo because they want to be right beside you all the time anyway. I have had many dogs over the years & my suggestion (with any breed) when potty training is to feed at same time morning & evening. Then you start to see a pattern emerge & you can get a good idea as to what time/how often they go potty. If you free feed, you never know when they are likely to need to go. I would get another Cavapoo in a heartbeat.
Brush teeth daily, very necessary for their total overall healthDon.’t throw stones! Everyone makes mistakes and there is an avalanche of of statements being directed at someone who cares about the animal. Pray you never make a mistake yourself. You need a pet to teach you some manners but you have convinced me that you do not deserve any of these priceless pups. Start out with something more in line with the character you have been exhibiting: a snake who quickly recognizes the traits you project- pick a pet who will recognize one of its own kind. Then - Try learning charity first. At least a dog greets his family with a woe-be- gone expression of apology - even If he did not do “it”. Why this piece has been repeatedly published is a mystery, which I would appreciate the removal of ASAP: you are not proving anything of worth to anyone, but now you are saying negative comments about yourself. Live and Let Live. The dog has only felt proud to be honored by his association with both country. I apologize for the long bitch, but we should learn, not only from each other but from our fine-loving-forgiving-precious friends.

Do they get on with your cats?
@D.M Just got one. She's friends with the cat. They chase each other around and the cat punches her in the face. They LOVE it. 😆
I learn from the video about our puppy. Everything he was saying is true. I would like to know who is his parents.
We are having a hard time finding a way to stop our Calpoop from using the bathroom everywhere. Plus he chew up anything he get his mouth on. Also he! Do go crazy, if he is left along for a couple of hours an he is 8 months. I am asking for help. Thank you in advance. 😢
My cavapoo barks at strangers so it’s the kind of one that thinks he’s a guard dog 😂
Yeah but there so small but they thing there so big ☺️🥺
@@jagkalaimani1917 that is so true
Keystonepuppies! I got mine yesterday & she cost MUCH LESS than these quotes! She's 2 months old & so tiny! I love her to pieces!
My cavapoo won’t stop biting and I’m trying to train it to not bite he’s only 2 months 😭😭😭😭
I love orange puppy cute 🥰
Agree with all your pros for the Cavapoo designer as we selected and have one but your cons are incorrect advice to cavapoo potential interested folk.
I'd love to have one of these dogs. Too bad I can't afford one. I'd dog sit
Cavapoo wasn't designed in America, its an Australian breed. Do you research properly man.
He confused it with the Cockapoo, I think.
@ A M that’s a bit rude people make mistakes sometimes
Yeah it’s Australian
Rude

Link doesn’t work
They were developed first in Australia, not America like the video says.. FYI.
Difficult to potty train. I’ll pass.
I beg to differ. My cavapoo was house trained at 9 weeks. Very intelligent dogs. Shes now 2 and never has an accident.
@@judybritt6288 Thank you for the advice. Much appreciated.
James F not difficult to train at all. Very smart, sweet, eager to please.

Why do you say the Cavapoo is not a lap dog? Do they like to cuddle with you?
I think he means 'not a lap dog's because of size. They are very cuddly even if they can't fit their whole body on your lap.
Why do Calpoo licking so much.
Cavapoo is an Australian breed not American.

:o
