This guy is one of the most musical bass players out there, and his fingerstyle playing is lightning and clean.
Mmmmmmm, this is another side of Malaman I've never seen, but I like. Sometimes his playing style can be a little overwhelming; it's nice to know that he can chill out and groove.

We recorded straight into a sound card. In post production I added a little bit of compression and dialed in some basses and highs

He’s great, but careful with the phrase “awesome groove” when the bass is playing ahead of the pocket instead of in the back of it. That’s not awesome.
Mind blowing bass skills. I got seriously distracted by the headstock. Top 5 ugliest headstocks I have ever seen in my life; looks like a piece of french toast.
Better that this bass would be headless and allow the body to get all the attention it deserves.

I apologize for my rude comment but I feel like he is trying too hard to 'channel jaco' with that tone. Be original, folks.
Well, he definitively is on the Jaco side of bass but his style in video is only a little reminiscent and I find is playing very original. The sound is very similar but that's a classic Jazz bass sound on the bridge pick up.
That tone is to me, what an electric bass is supposed to sound like. Set to sound more like an acoustic bass with the added fullness of pickups. I cannot fault a guy who wants a good true bass sound.....
The tone is DI with some light compression added. EVERYONE uses DI with compression. Jaco doesn't have a corner on the market.
