      HEY Federico, you don't have to be sorry man. As you said it was spontaneous. I for one loved the clip. Keep up the good work you are putting out there. Don't listen to all the critics. That's what they are!!! Critics!

      Fredrico, Im a huge wooten fan and before this vid i had never heard of you, im very pleased that i clicked the link...this is one of my fav versions of this tune!!! Even though your playing was at times busy(Hey its jazz though, not the most sparse of genres note wise) i thoroughly enjoyed it, very colourful not choice and phrases. Even next to Wooten you did yourself v proud...i would turn to jelly if i had the chance to jam with Wooten himself...Thanks for the music and playing :)

      Federico was very excited and happy to be playing with Victor, and totally showed that he deserves to stand alongside the Master Wooten! Nice playing and feel as always!
      Vai Fede che sei il migliore, fregatene di quelli che parlano solo per fare i fighi ma in realtà fanno la figura dei cretini ;) Keep on grooving che quando passi in zona devo venire a vederti!

      I've watched this clip a bunch of times because it's one that I like to jam with on the drums. And yes, sometimes I notice who seems to be 'feeling it' at different times, and which verses maybe don't quite take off and soar. But I keep coming back to it, because there's so much beautiful music in it. These are two supremely musical bass players meeting in a crowded public place and having an amazing conversation via their instruments. Rehearsed shows and produced recordings are great too, but THANK YOU, Federico for letting us also see and hear this more spontaneous stuff via UA-cam. Please never stop posting!

    Victor always said that the meaning of the bassist is to make the other musician sounds better. They were both clearly having fun enjoying the moment. A legenda as Victor does not need to show off, he wanted Federico play the way he likes. It was a beautiful jam, that's all! (music is not a competition)

    All these people blinded by only what they know. Malaman isn't playing any different here than I've seen him in any of his other solo stuff, this is his style. There was no pushing, no rushing and no competition, malaman uses lots of notes for expression, that's not a good or a bad thing. Same with Wooten, to be truly honest I barely see Wooten pulling any face but that one. He's been around, been to many conventions and sometimes you just have to go with your resting face. These two played as they would play any where else,, the sound was there and if you look to enjoy it you will

  • @Blueshirt38
    @Blueshirt38 10 років тому +775

    It's so weird how Victor can use the "wrong" notes, and make something sound so dissonant one second, but pull it all together, and make you forget it was ever "wrong" to begin with.

    This is a great video! Many people mention that Victor is a bit uncomfortable with the situation... But we can understand why Malaman overplayed a bit... trying to do his best, being nervous playing with a legend! It's a bit awkward to see him staring at Victor the whole song :)

      I think this post puts it the best. First time I watched the video, I thought "this guy is playing too long and the feeling is getting stale between them"
      but he freshened it up, and you could tell the enthusiasm coming from him. victor wooten picked up on it and it turned out righteous --- and Fed even asked for more interaction when he was like "nah u take it, take it" at the last reprise with solos

    Davie504 just covered the song, and searching for one of the renditions of the Victor Wooten original and I found your video. I gotta say, you musta had a titanium wheelbarrow for your nuts because it takes some serious balls to suggest a legend's own song for what you're going to jam live with them in front of dozens of people. And your skills held up.

    • @TheYeetusLord

      Although I agree with the sentiment in this comment, Victor was always covering Stevie’s original.

    • @thetalantonx
      @thetalantonx 4 роки тому +1

      @@TheYeetusLord Fair enough. And I agree, but in that context I was thinking that Victor Wooten's cover and arrangement were transformative enough and Davie504's was a straight up in line cover without substantial deviation that VW's version was the "copied" "original."

    • @TheYeetusLord
      @TheYeetusLord 4 роки тому +1

      TheTalantonX and that is what makes victor such a genius at what he does. He will adapt to anybody’s version of his cover without stealing the show. Victor’s always been so modest and despite his skill level, his modesty is just as equal

      andres camilo chacon Diaz Chaconvsky Records Ok. So obviously you've not noticed that Victor usually plays a 4 string bass guitar and Federico usually plays a 5 or 6 string bass guitar which means that there is more room for more improvisation when you play with more strings. I've seen Victor play on a 5 string Bass guitar and just wailed away with some monster chops. It takes some serious versatility to be able to play different stringed bass guitars. But for my money, there's nobody and I mean NOBODY that can a 4 string bass guitar better with more technique than Victor.

    I love this video! I watch it every few months. Two modern day
    fantastic bass players just jamming. And anyone who has ever played
    live for an audience or in a jam session, realizes that it's not a
    perfect studio recording. Nor should it be. All I hear is mutual
    respect for the other player, and some healthy competition. My only
    regret is that I was not there to listen to it in person.
