You can clearly see his right side,he's in a lot of pain struggling to move around we went to the last 2 shows in Boston and enjoying the shows. Not ever realizing the pain he was in. This tour clearly about not letting his fans down. Hindsight looking at this now I would have forfeited my two shows in Boston rather than having no surgery and still be with us. Miss you Tom and your tours dearly.
Pisses you off as you get older and pain suddenly intrudes on your nirvana...your safe place is no longer sacred. Sucks, and the pain pills alter your feelings and choices. We were truly blessed with the great TP and all the fellow Maestros in his band (including Stan the Man Lynch).
@@jujumulligan43 Yep, I recall. I only know some of us drummers are a peculiar lot. But if in Stan's shoes, I would hope I would have made and brought Tom's coffee to him with a smile.
Tom was in so much pain as we now know that it is a testament to the man he was that, the show must go on. Hip surgery was supposed to be done this month had he lived. You can see him not putting weight on his right leg. He could barely stand up yet he gave the best performance of his life. I am truly in awe of Tom Petty. So cool and so all about his fans. He never wavered. I am still having a hard time with this tremendous loss. To give you an idea of how respected and beloved he was, Bob Dylan rarely says anything yet alone reveal his true feelings. His tribute and moving words about Tom tell you just how he felt. What an amazing talent Tom Petty was.
Well put. I feel so blessed to have seen him in concert, once home in Florida when the band was not so famous and later years. Nothing changed! Tom's obvious love for his audience and his energy were unmistakable. I'll never stop missing him.
Craig Gomez Sorry but this was hardly the best performance of his life, not even close. I’m a fan of over 40 years and I have seen them 17 times in concert, 16 times since 1978 and once with Dylan.. Im not putting them down but I can assure you this was not the best performance of his life by any stretch of the imagination.
This song for me does exactly what I think it intends, keep on swinging and don't every stop until you are ready to. I find it very inspiring, when I hear "like Sonny Liston" I think of my dad, watching boxing and never giving up. Tom Petty, where the fuck did you go!?@@barrytreat5032
He gave us his all doing what he loved to the very end. RIP dear one. I never knew of him until after he died, but now I love him. Sounds a bit crazy, but true.
You can see how unwell he was around that time. He had a bad hip, knee problems and emphysema. He over medicated just to manage the pain 😢 Still with all that going on he always gave 100% to his fans and his music. Thank you Tom ❤
Every time I watch this video, I cry you can see how swollen his knee is. He can’t even straighten it up and you could kind of tell. Maybe something was wrong with his hip and then you find out afterwards oh yes, there is something mightily wrong with his hip but that awesome man through all that pain would not give up that concert. He said he’s already booked too many people depending on him it’s their livelihood, and he would not let them down. That’s a saint right there.
This is heartbreaking, yet beautiful, to watch now that we know what happened and how much pain he was in. He gave it all to his music, his band and his fans. you can see the pain he is in. it breaks my heart to see. he really did this song, and I think it is one of his best. I wonder if he knew this was going to be the end and this was his way of saying he was going down swingin. tom loved music and it was his life. I love this man. What a soulful man of music, he gave so much to his beloved audience. Thanks for all of the great songs you left the whole world with.❤❤❤
Ha Joe Walsh played a really epic set, it was too much really it rocked so hard I had to sober up lol. Then Tom Petty came out and I knew they were going to cancel it because I could see the storms rolling in, and after a few lightning strikes nearby they told us to seek shelter, so we got rained on for about an hour, then The Heartbreakers came back out and played this and a very good long set. It was late when the show was over. I wanna say after 1am.
It was such a great show from what I've seen on here! I won tickets to see him with Steve Winwood in 2014. It was definitely a "mountaintop" concert experience for me! One of the best live shows I've ever seen! Petty and band truly loved the fans and all their love and devotion, you could see it in the smile on his face during the whole show. Spreading his arms wide, whirling in a circle, happy and blissful. I loved his bit of banter: "All of you parents here better call the babysitter and tell her you're gonna be home late. We'd love to keep playin' for you if that's alright?" with a mischievous smile on his face. I'm so glad I won those tickets and we got to go. Especially now. Rest in Peace, sir!
Now those are musicians that play for the love of playing and the love of the audience! It sounds like it was an incredible night! Even if it was a little soggy.
In the Petty Doc, Tom talked about how sad it was to watch the decline of Howie. I feel the same way while watching this, Tom was in poor health, still giving it his all. RIP
He fell shortly before the tour was to start, they wanted him to replace it immediately, he refused...said he'd sit in a chair for the tour but he wasnt letting his fans down. Other than that he was great...listen to his future plans in his last interview. He was just getting started.
I've watched this video plenty of times, but for some reason, today it brings tears. I just can't accept the fact that I will never again experience Tom with the Heartbreakers again. There's just never been another band that brought the awesome laid back vibe that Tom brought. My God, Tom is very dearly missed.
Yes, I agree Scott...there will never be another that compared to him in my opinion, since he was my favorite for 40 years....but, thankfully he gave us so much great music and memories, and even though this video is far from perfect....it captured a very impromptu situation...even with the surrounding noise.....great performance!

I was there. This was just after rain (it rains a lot at Red Rocks) interrupted the show. There is a curfew there for finishing your show. This (plus a few substances imbibed during the break, for some band members) energized the second half of the show. Unforgettable and I saw this band over 10 times.
My first Petty show was at Red Rocks in 1983, a week after I graduated from high school and a day or two after the famous U2 concert. Hard to believe this was 34 years later. My favorite Petty song ever.

Not only was he an amazing musician but was also an amazing song writer. I’ve heard stories where he never swore and expressed great appreciation to his fans. To be a band member and to know Tom Petty must of been awesome. He gave it everything he had every time he was in concert... I’m myself in need of hip surgery and its absolutely painful to try to stand on that bad leg as he is doing when ur hip joint is tore up. I understand the drugs to try to mask the pain...Man we miss you Tom....from Orlando Fl

We were at this show and waited through the storm. I still can't believe we're never going to be able to see Tom preform again; and that he was in so much pain during this tour. Thank you to whomever captured this moment.
Red Rocks magic strikes again! Probably only the second time this tour Swingin had been played. Was so happy we were able to go to both shows at Red Rocks because they were both very different despite the similar set list but the second night show was just epic! Thanks for posting!
I saw this concert when I came to New York State . Seen them many times before. When he got to New York State he obviously was on a little bit of medication because he was all over the place on the stage. But even still 6 weeks later he passed. Yes he played this song for me too and when we lost time I cried like he was my brother or husband. My world has never been the same since him. I love this song for a lot of reasons but now when I see him here it just breaks my heart. God I miss this man
Such a loss. A great writer and performer. Very few artists develop a style so distinctive and instantly recognizable as to essentially constitute a genre unto itself. We are blessed to have his music still with us.
Tom, thank you for all of the awesome memories and beautiful music. You will always be missed brother! Thank you for keeping Tom's music Tom Petty Radio on Sirius!
This tune is clearly one of my favorites from Tom Petty's long career. I followed him from the early 80's to the end and it was a wonderful journey. I like the album "Echo" and especially "Swingin". The theme is melancholy "Into the great wide open" and everything that can happen when you are young and rootless, which was so typical of Tom Petty's songwriting and perhaps also a kind of mirror image for his own life. The Heartbreakers were arguably the world's best backing band and Tom Petty (even with great pain) one of the world's best musicians. Thanks for posting this video.
Thanks for posting. I saw them 6/2/17 at the Sprint Center in KC, MO. This is one of my favorites and I was disappointed it wasn't on the play list. I've seen TPATHB several times and this last show was the best by far.
Thank you so much for this! I'm still so very sad that he's gone. I just can't wrap my head around it sometimes, and when I watch TPATHB videos and concerts, it's so surreal, but thank God for for video and audio, so that we'll always be able to see and hear his amazing talent!
I had the privilege to see Tom Pretty and the Heartbreakers in Phoenix. 2nd row on the floor. Right in front of Tom Petty! And with my best friend.. Best time in my life!
This is one of the best live performances I have ever seen , the music is brilliant and beautiful, “big beautiful “ that was an exhilarating experience, god love Tom Petty , the heartbreakers sound as powerful as they have ever been or maybe more. Really enjoyed the Webb sisters back up vocals very cool sound! Thank you for this moment 🥰🥰🌻😎🎸✌️🧚🏻♂️

His voice & his echo never dies...omg, i miss you :-(

Oh my, lost for words. 💕💕💕
Tom, my freind...YOU went down Swingin'. Thank you for your gift.
Your SO MISSED TP! And Rock'n'Roll is so gonna miss you too!!
Tom wir vermissen Dich so sehr, ich hoffe Deine Seele ist im Musikhimmel und ich rufe Dir zu, Du lebst mit Deiner tollen Musik in uns und weiter auf diesem schon zu heißem Planeten
We were at this show and waited through the storm. I still can't believe we're never going to be able to see Tom preform again; and that he was in so much pain during this tour. Thank you to whomever captured this moment.
I was driving from ND to NV and caught this show at Red Rocks. It was so cold that night. Very special night for me. Thanks Tom.
I pray for the repose of the soul of Tom Petty...See ya in Swinging heaven if I make it.
Great song from one of my all time favorite albums !!! Sadly you can see he was hurting . R.I.P. Tom , love ya brother
Loved him. Plain and simple.
You are very lucky if u got too see this live! What a great song.
Kevin Weidemann Amazing.
God I miss him!! My favorite Petty song ever!
An absolutely incredible performance. He gave it all out there, on the stage: a true rock n roll legend, Tom Petty and his music will live forever.
What a night! Hearing this song made it worth getting soaked through and through. Miss you Tom.
I saw him more than I will probably ever admit and saw swinging played twice
Thank you so much for this! I'm still so very sad that he's gone. I just can't wrap my head around it sometimes, and when I watch TPATHB videos and concerts, it's so surreal, but thank God for for video and audio, so that we'll always be able to see and hear his amazing talent!
I had the privilege to see Tom Pretty and the Heartbreakers in Phoenix. 2nd row on the floor. Right in front of Tom Petty! And with my best friend.. Best time in my life!
Two of the best concert experiences of my life seeing Tom and the band. His songwriting never diminished..a great, great talent.
What a loss to us all, so sad to see him struggling with his health. RIP Tom you deserve a break from the pain, a true rock legend.
Sorely missed. Bless you and thank you for your music Tom...
WHOA!!! What a moment! What a video!!
RIP Tom Petty Love for EVER
I love Tom Petty. Thanks for all
This is one of the best live performances I have ever seen , the music is brilliant and beautiful, “big beautiful “ that was an exhilarating experience, god love Tom Petty , the heartbreakers sound as powerful as they have ever been or maybe more. Really enjoyed the Webb sisters back up vocals very cool sound! Thank you for this moment 🥰🥰🌻😎🎸✌️🧚🏻♂️
Moonlight on the interstate... Tom Petty was so genius.
