Made it look easy! My middle black piece that’s built it to the cover that holds the middle white gear in place broke off, have to replace the whole head because of that. Glad you posted this
Having parts shipped right now to redo my minn kota edge. Thanks for the video. I also have to redo the upper shaft bearing also so just going to replace both of them.
Thank you for the video, not to be a critic, I believe there is a tension screw on the foot pedal control to allow the cables some slack. You must have had a screw left over for the white clamp that held the wires in place , you mounted on the cable holding bracket not where it was removed from.
It was not as hard as it looked. I was surprised that the new style head fits the same as the old style head. Hope the video helps with your project. Thanks for watching.
Need help. When reinstalling cable gear and 4 screw bracket that holds cables down my cables were now too short. Bracket was about 1/4 inch short of holes matching up. I noticed that yours were also but you edited out that part. How did you get bracket to match up. I even put original head back on and cable bracket still wouldnt match up. What to do??
I was able to get everything to line up eventually. I didnt use any special tricks- just pulled on the cables with some force. (I probably edited out the grunt while I was doing that!)
One last question, I hope. I am going to do this when I take it out of the water and it's on the trailer. Better to do it with the troller down, or pulled up?
The yellow is the newer style head. My trolling motor had the head with the red indicator. I bought the newer style with the yellow indicator and it fit. I think the only difference is the style.
There must be 8 videos on this repair on UA-cam. They all break in the same place. When I bought the replacement part on Amazon they said they had sold 50 so far this month ( it was mid June). There must be a design problem here. What gives Minn Kota? My motor couldnt have had 25 hours on it.
I broke my Minn Kota Maxxum 65 two days ago in almost the exact same spot. But I don’t feel bad at all about it. Mine had 20! years of HARD use including 5 years in the Arizona sun. I will never complain about that.
nice job!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ready for new adventures!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you!!
Those plugs were bonded. Lol 😂 good video . Thank you. Have to change my fortrex head. Busted it all too hell.

Allright! Lot cheaper than buying a new trolling motor. Good luck with your project.

This looks like a complete nightmare to me. I need to replace the tilt bracket but 8 believe I will need to do the same process. Thanks for the video

@@ProWrenching your video will definitely help
Very informative. Thanks for the info. I’m always safety conscious-Do I need to unhook it from the battery, (are those hot wires,)or not a concern
Thank you! Yes- unhook it from the battery before beginning work

@@ProWrenching thanks for replying. very frusstrating. no reason for them to not fit easily
Thank you, gonna give it a try..😊
I need a new cover for the maxxum 2007 model, not sure what kit to buy??
I bought mine from Northland Marine
ph. 715-546-2333. You might try calling them to see if they can tell you which one you need.
Thanks for this video. If I don't have heat shrink, can I get by with electrical tape?
Yes. Heat shrink is best b/c it seals out the moisture and prevents corrosion, but electrical tape would also work.
Thank you for all this help. Going to attempt this next week. Appreciate you!
One last question, I hope. I am going to do this when I take it out of the water and it's on the trailer. Better to do it with the troller down, or pulled up?
@@RonS-xg7lp Better down, b/c you can move things around. It’s easier to make adjustments
Looks fun
We have this one also. But it’s stuck in high speed. Control module is new. Any suggestions ?
I have not run into that particular issue. However, I would suspect the multi position speed switch is not functioning correctly.
We have found out we may have a 24v motor and this particular module is for a 12v.
excellent video
Thank you
I can see that there is 2 different replacement sets, a red and a yellow?
Whats the differens??
The yellow is the newer style head. My trolling motor had the head with the red indicator. I bought the newer style with the yellow indicator and it fit. I think the only difference is the style.
What is the part number for the new head replacement?
I bought it from Northlandmarine.com. The part # is COVERKITM(NEW)
What amp circuit breaker you have for a 74 lb thrust same motor
60 amp
What gauge wire would you use six. Gage on @ 74 lb thrust 45 amps thanks for the info
@@Billeye well, I know 80 lb thrusters should be 6 gauge if the boat length is between 15-25ft.
Thank you I think your right 6 Gage is better thanks
Great video thx
Thank you

It’s plastic
where did you get the new head from
Northland Marine
good info, but in the future NO MUSIC PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks, I have not been adding any music to the new videos. My mechanic work is better than my DJ skills. LOL
Good video but what’s up with the rubber gloves it isn’t brain surgery.
How much is super cheap
Paid 100 bucks for the broken trolling motor
@@ProWrenching damn that is a good deal
Doing the same tonite on my trolling motor wish me luck 🤞
