    Thanks for putting this together. I think this is a must watch for every R10 owner. What was interesting to me was that even once initially aligned, the shots were still coming off slightly right. It's good to know that ever so slightly adjusting the R10 to correct this seems like a good approach. Using short chips as a calibration tool seems particularly inspired as most golfers can produce short straight chips. Awesome work mate.

      Hey mate first off have you got a projector or some sort of fan running in your room? You might be getting interference from something causing issues. Other than that you can try move slightly closer to the unit for chip shots. I also made a video that might help explain chipping issues.. hope that helps mate.

    Garmin instructions say up to 2ft square from center of R10 so ball doesn’t need to be directly in front of the red line on the unit. Otherwise how would you hit driver? I use mine and I just make sure the R10 is square and level and that’s all you need

    • @JLagGOLF
      @JLagGOLF  Рік тому

      Yes absolutely you get 1foot either side of centre line. This is however talking about absolute optimal set up for maximising accuracy. And because in the indoor environment you are hitting off a mat so you don't need to worry about divots it makes sense to try and get as close to the centre line as possible. Another reason for this is if you move a foot left but then still keep the same impact location on the screen then you are going to induce errors in your data.

    Really good video Joe, thank you. I have the Garmin and I am now trying to get a sim set up in my garage. One question. How wide of a space would you say is needed? I have about 2,5 meters to work with. I also keep things on shelves along the walls. I plan to but some dark curtains up as you have done. Any info you can give is highly appreciated.

    • @JLagGOLF
      @JLagGOLF  Рік тому

      Hey Chant 2.5m is definitely on the narrow side. The good thing is a lot of the softwares have what is called offset. So because you are not going to be able to hit in to the centre of your screen or net you can adjust the software to show this. I think the biggest thing you will face is indoor swing syndrome as because its a narrow space you will feel really uncomfortable to swing. It will take a while for you to become comfortable in that environment. Make sure you take plenty of swings on video so you can see that you aren’t going to hit anything and that will help build confidence. As far as the r10 goes i would definitely put the curtains up and as long as you have enough room front to back it shouldn’t be a problem!
      Cheers

  • @NoPain-NGain
    @NoPain-NGain Рік тому +1

    Hi Joe
    Thanks for the video, would you say the same things are true for use at an outdoor range, does the ball need to be in the same spot each time

    • @JLagGOLF
      @JLagGOLF  Рік тому

      Thanks mate so it doesn't have to be in the exact same spot each time but to maximise accuracy especially in an indoor environment you have to hit parallel to the original alignment if that makes sense.
      So you will be able to hit along the line (flag to ball to unit) all in a straight line. you will end up with a line of divots.
      After that you can hit parallel to those divots but if you move left of the line you new line should be slightly left of the flag and the same for right. Or you can just move the unit slightly left or right and start a new line of divots.
      Hope that makes sense.
      If you don't do this then you will start inducing club path and club data errors.

    Hi thanks for the video just quickly 2 questions.
    1. So if it's going to the right like your video you move the Garmin to the right and vice versa? Wouldn't you move the Garmin in the opposite direction?
    2. So I've set up my r10 in the garage but unfortunately the distance is only 1.5m from the Garmin and about 1.5m to the spornia net.
    I'm not concerned about distance but direction as I'm trying to fix my draw/ hook.
    I've lined the Garmin correctly but stand and laserr but still seems to show me every shot is a fade. I suspect it's the 1.5m distance. Any way of fixing it? Thanks

    • @JLagGOLF
      @JLagGOLF  Рік тому

      Hey mate so it's a little counter intuitive I know... But if the Garmin is pointed slightly left and is positioned correctly behind you and your impact location on the screen and is turned slightly left your balls in game will (if you are hitting it straight) come out the the right of your centre line. So to fix this you actually need to turn the Garmin slightly right so now it's aiming down your line and to the impact spot. Hope this makes sense.
      Hmmm so 1.5m is definitely short and outside the scope that I tested in my in-depth video. In my testing anything shorter than 6ft unit to ball and 6ft ball to screen really struggled and gave inaccurate data. Because the Garmin has to read and then calculate a ball flight it needs a bit more distance to work accurately. In my testing I found 6ft unit to ball and then 7ft ball to screen to be the minimum accurate distances. Is there any way to open up your garage and have the unit sit outside?

  • @nikkiwright9664
    @nikkiwright9664 Рік тому +1

    Does that mean your golf ball has to be in that laser to get a good read

    • @JLagGOLF
      @JLagGOLF  Рік тому +1

      Hey Nikki no not necessarily. You get up to a foot either side of that laser line. But what it does mean is if you move say 6 inches left of that laser line then your new impact location on your screen should be 6 inches left. And the same if you move right. If you don't it will still read everything correctly but your data will be slightly off.

    • @JLagGOLF

    • @JLagGOLF
      @JLagGOLF  Рік тому

      Thanks Trent! At the moment the RCT balls for me aren't great for Sim golf. They are great for range work and bag mapping with the r10. However anything from wedge down the unit rarely gets club data and with chipping I get more random mis-reads. So for now when I'm playing Sim golf I just use normal Pro V1's. I was using the RCT balls for driver through 9 iron then switching to a normal ball once I got to PW and in but it got annoying having to check so I just went back to normal Pro V1's when I'm playing Sim golf.
      The RCT Integration though is a massive step forward and the spin numbers are greatly improved through the bag. I just think it needs an update or 2 to be perfect for Sim golf.

Should I raise the unit to be true level or will that be too much above the hitting area? Thanks again. Currently using E6.

    • @JLagGOLF

      Thanks Bill! So what I would do is get the Garmin R10 to sit and match the slope of your hitting mat! That's key so then all the data will be accurate. Don't worry about the slope up to the screen just focus on the slope of the actual hitting mat and where the R10 sits.

    Hi, I've just stumbled across your channel. I'm thinking of purchasing the R10 but really want to be able to rely on the swing path / face data to use this as a training tool for my swing. I'll be using outside with a net. There are lots of conflicting opinions on UA-cam on its club accuracy! Would you say when set up correctly like you've shown here, it can be relied on for this detail. The other option is the mevo + but I think the pro package is needed for the data I want to see, so come out 5 times the cost of the Garmin! Thanks for any help you can give. James.

    • @JLagGOLF
      @JLagGOLF  Рік тому

      Hey James my opinion on clubface and swing path... So before I got the R10 I was extremely sceptical and was looking at the mevo plus. Then after I finally decided to get and try the R10 I was actually blown away with how good the little unit was. Does this mean it is as accurate as the mevo plus probably not exactly apples to apples. so with the Garmin you get the clubface and path data but it is estimated. The data you get is good most of the time (90 - 95%) and I have definitely used it to work on my path and face. But if you are looking for something that you would coach with for instance or could rely on for a PGA pro for example then I'd say mevo plus.
      It's all relative though for me and my level I could work on face and path no problem with the R10 and I trusted the data I was getting. The feel I would have then look at the ball flight matched 90 - 95% of the time. The key is taking your time and getting it set up correctly. The same with the mevo it has to be set up the same way as they are both using radar as their primary sensor.
      The biggest thing they will both struggle with is gear effect mostly with woods and driver. This is where radar units in short distances always struggle even Trackman. They can't get the spin axis and therefore will give you the opposite ball flight.
      Hope this helps. My 2c if you got the R10 you wouldn't be disappointed. Like I said I have used it at my level to work on the things you're talking about. I'm not sure the level of golf you play at though.
      Hope this helps Cheers

      @@jameshargreaves7547 no worries mate yes it sounds like it will be perfect. I would definitely factor in the awesome golf app as well that's what I used to work on club face and path as it gives the best view of this in the coaching section. I will have in the next few weeks more videos showing the GC2 head to head with the R10 and different apps and you will be able to see the spin axis sometimes doesn't match what the GC2 is saying. This will give you a better idea what I'm talking about. But that being said would the mevo be any different? I'm not sure as I don't have one to do the tests with.

    • @jameshargreaves7547
      @jameshargreaves7547 Рік тому +1

      Hi Joe. You may have covered this in another video but what do you think are the ideal distances from ball to net and ball to R10? I'm making an adjustable stand for my R10 today with laser level at the front. Do you keep your laser in position once you are set up as a reference where to place the ball on the mat? I planned on doing this but thinking the boxy laser may interfere with the Garmin.

    • @JLagGOLF
      @JLagGOLF  Рік тому

      @@jameshargreaves7547 Hey James so I basically run with maximise ball flight especially if you are a higher ball speed player as it will give the best chance for the R10 to calculate spin (with the RCT ball). So I personally run just over 6ft unit to ball (6ft 4 inches) and then 10ft ball to screen. With these distances I get very accurate results and I'm just going through doing comparison now against all the apps. I did do a video though called how much room do you need for accurate results and if you watch that then you will see that the actual distances don't really change that much when you start reducing the ball to screen.
      As for the laser no once I've aligned everything I just turn it off and move it. As long as you have a reference spot to where the centre of your screen is you will be fine. Just put a white disc or something over your centre point. The only thing to remember is that if you move your ball left or right on your mat then move your impact position on the screen as well the same distance because if you don't then you can potentially influence club path and face numbers if that makes sense.
      Cheers

    • @JLagGOLF
      @JLagGOLF  Рік тому +1

      Hey mate yes I've heard people with slower backswings struggle to get the R10 to register shorter chip shots. It must have something to do with the Doppler radar not reading anything moving quick enough and it discounts it. A few things you could try:
      1) if you have a projector definitely put a Faraday cage around it
      2) only for chipping move closer to the unit by a foot or 2
      3) if you swing really inside on your backswings for chips then move your ball so it's 6 to 8 inches to the right of the unit so then your backswing is more in line with the unit.
      4) make some quicker backswings and see if that picks it up and if it does then it must be the slower swing speed
      Hope this helps
