Great timing for great vid David. Was just debating distances the other night with buddy. 4 and 5 iron numbers were looney toons. 5 iron at 93 swing speed and 154 smash carrying 172 yards, made no sense, thats a 190-195 carry. We have enough distance to back mat and garmin up to 10 ft and 7 ft, so we’ll give that a try. Thanks for the info. ✌️✌️ Also, couldnt agree more on mat choice. Finally decided and went with Spornia SPG-8 Perfect Reation bundle and its worth every penny. Mat is 1 5/8 inches thick and after 500+ balls it doesnt have a mark on it. Instant feedback on shots. Added the sim screen and its top notch for cheap price for winter golf. 👍
You’ve got the perfect setup there mate. I used the Spornia Spg7 net (and still do for driver) for a long time and I absolutely love it. Best golf nets ever!
David, great video. Very helpful. I’m considering an R10 for setup into a net. Not sure I have as much room as you. Another interesting test would be to shorten the distance between ball and garmin and ball and screen to see accuracy difference with shorter setups.
@Joe Claman - That's the exact setup that I use. I typically have just over 8 feet between the ball and the net. If it's any shorter than that, the numbers get way off - especially on longer/faster clubs. The distance between the Garmin and the ball does not seem to be as critical as long as it is at least 6 feet. The only difference is that when I am using a shorter distance between the Garmin and the ball, I get more missed reads, especially on wedge shots and chips. YMMV.
David, love all your videos. After watching all your stuff, I decided the Garmin R10 was the way to go for my garage setup. Went with the Spornia net setup with some side netting. Garmin arrived today, did all the steps, updated firmware, calibrated, etc. For the life of me can't get the unit to work. For some reason carry distance will not go over 75 for any club that I try. I just hope the Garmin App can improve on the lateral deviation then I’ll stick to the Garmin app even though the awesome golf app has the nice overview of shots and stats
Interestingly the Garmin app total distance is almost spot on to the awesome golf carry distance pretty much every time. So it’s obviously just an algorithm calculation difference between the 2 😊 Using the RCT balls I found the lateral dispersion better than previously with the Garmin App but it can still be improved and the layout could be better also. Although I do have confidence that through updates they’ll keep improving the app
Hey Dave, I have a Gen 1 Skytrak that I use exclusively in my garage. I feel like having club data will help me improve my game. I’ve considered buying the Gen 2 Skytrak, but it’s just not in the budget and probably won’t be for at least a year. I have an idea for a workaround that I’d like you to chime in on. That is, to keep my Gen 1 SKytrak and to pair it with a used Garmin R10. I have the required room for both units and could display the images via split screen. The R10 could also be used at an outdoor driving range, which is kinda nice. In a year’s time, I could buy a used Gen 2 Skytrak and sell or gift the Gen 1 Skytrak. What do you think?
Just found out that my iPad is too old to run awesome golf , will awesome golf work on an android tablet or is it worth updating my iPad and if so which iPad would you recommend, looking forward to getting into all this R10 goodness, wish all this technology was around 50 years ago Cheers

Nice one David 👍… Wondered if with Garmin app can change altitude temp humidity which can tweak your numbers as you have pointed out before . Is the Awesome golf app independent of the tweaks made in the Garmin app ?
Sooooo you think the Garmin golf app now plenty accurate enough on lateral deviation, use to seem it was way off maybe their algorithms have improved, I’m debating on buying awesome golf app vs keeping ability to play more virtual courses with Garmin app. Awesome golf app coaching/range is much more useful and pleasing to the eye but not real courses and only 9 hole courses kinda a bummer
I been using the device for a couple of days and it’s seems to be way off. I have it at 8 feet from target and 6 feet from tee. Does better lighting in garage help!
Hi David. Love all your content mate, thanks for sharing! About to order the r10 and spornia for a 16 foot long spare bedroom. How much room is needed from the spornia target to the room’s wall? Assuming that’s 1 foot, from your experience would you position the r10 6 feet behind the ball for 9 feet of flight distance before impact. Or would you do the r10 7 feet behind the ball for 8 feet of flight distance? Thanks for your help and recommendations!
Hey mate, I prefer the longest flight distance possible so if you have 16 feet then I would say 9 foot to net and 7 foot to R10. You should be able to almost put the net as close to the wall as it can do because of the design
I'm outdoors but don't have much room. I get good reads from irons, but when I get to my driver it doesn't pick up half the swings. The R10 is 7 ft. Behind the tee and the net is 9 ft. In front of the tee. Any suggestions?
Just got my R10. Do foam balls make issues with it? Indoors it seems to always “calculate” and not be ready when I’m swinging. I’ve seen this in other videos. But most times it’s not even registered. Wondering if foam balls are an issue
It calibrates the device for levelling, distances etc so helps if there’s a slight slope to the garage of hitting area on the range and helps to give you the most accurate starting point for the data to be read
Hi Dave. I've just got my R10 sitting on a piece of wood. We've had a ball with it but sometimes it misses a few of the readings and gives a bad shot. I'll definitely grab a stand, but I was wondering if you have had any problem with short chips around the green when playing Sim. I am playing on E6, and it doesn't pick them up all the time. Thanks
I have an indoor setup in my garage: ball to net 9 feet; R10 to ball 6 feet; Country Club mat. The R10 is level on a stand that I made where I keep the feet of the tripod level with the mat. My iron shots read every time, but my driver shots off a tee are not read (maybe 1 out of 10 are read). Driver shots off the mat are read every time. The tee is the wide yellow plastic golf mat tee that I bought from Amazon. Have you ever had this happen with a driver? What height do you keep the R10 at compared to your mat? I do calibrate the R10 every time & lined up. Thanks!!
I meant to say the tripod feet are at same height as the mat..... I have also tried setting the tripod on the floor where the bottom of the screen is level with the mat & with the feet of the tripod higher than the mat
@@davidmaxfieldgolf Hi David, well I'm not on instagram. It seems if I take a very short back swing with the driver either on the mat or tee, the shot is read. When I take a full back swing the shot is not read (maybe once in a number of attempts). Anything in particular you might look for?

The reason I ask is when I take a shot using Awesome golf, I see the number appear but when I switch to the Garmin Golf app, the Garmin app has not captured any data. What do you think I'm doing wrong? Thank you in advance.
For awesome golf you’ll need to have the Garmin Golf app running at the same time. If you want to see numbers on both apps just have the Garmin Golf app open in the driving range setting and then the awesome golf app open on top of that 😊 And yes connected to the r10 via Bluetooth
Hi. Great video. Thanks for posting. Struggled with my indoor setup last winter. I have all the correct gear, high ceilings and enough depth of space between net, mat and monitor (leveled on stand). Also recently updated the R10. I can't go with the RCT balls and risk turning my walls and ceiling into Swiss cheese. Instead, I'm hitting GoSport foam golf practice balls (ordered off Amazon). Love the product itself but the distances captured off the R10 are not even remotely close to accurate. In some cases, the ball flight isn't even registering. Do you think attaching the metallic dots on the foam balls will help? And any insight to how to change course conditions like elevation within the Garmin or Awesome Golf apps would be appreciated. Cheers from chilly Canada.
Hi mate, the foam balls will register but they won’t go far at all. This actually shows the accuracy of the Garmin. So you will really need to use real balls 😊
@@davidmaxfieldgolf Thanks for the quick reply. I suspect going with products like Callaway Hx or Almost Golf would yield similar results as the GoSport balls? Cant chance using real ones with my bid to keep my kid engaged during the winter. But thanks again for your feedback.
David, when comparing Awesome golf to garmin using the wedges what matrices are different that is causing the carry discrepancy? Spin, balls speed, launch angle...? Or are they all the same and its the algorithms between the two that are different? Does the RCT ball (or metal dot ball) make Awesome golf more accurate in the wedges? How does the E6 range compare?
Hey david the only problem I’m having is getting long irons and fairway woods and driver to have the correct high launch. I’m getting like 10° and it’s low unless I try to hit them high on purpose I can get 14°. Any tips for me? I’m a +1 hdc so I can strike an all halfway decent.
Do you have the R10 on a stand with a level? That would be the first thing I’d do. Next thing is to have at least 9.5 feet in front of you before the net or screen
@@davidmaxfieldgolf I have 12’ to screen from ball and Garmin is on a level stand. Can u do a video with long irons? Sw to 6 iron it reads plenty high it’s 5,4, 3wood and driver. Now if I purposely make them fly as high as I can it’s better but I know I normally don’t have to swing like that

@@davidmaxfieldgolf So if you are using it indoors, you are not adjusting the humidity and temp. Reason I am asking, is because snow is about ready to drop here in the next couple of weeks. My indoor temp and humidity will be vastly different. Not sure how the calculations change based on these numbers. I guess it will be a good experiment for me.
@Josh. Im playing with same settings being in a cold state as well. Garmin was reading local conditions at 51 degrees but we had it at least 65 in garage. My 5 iron pured was reading carries of only 170-175 at very best…15-20 yards short. I will adjust temp if i can next time and see if that changes carry as i carry a ripped 5 all of 190-195. I will respond to this post if i see a difference. I also want to back ball up a foot at least from 6 on up. 7 on down was right on.
@@davidmaxfieldgolf I have the same issue as Rtg13. I'm up to date and have covered my unfinished garage floor between the unit/mat/net. I thought it may be because I wiggle my club a little at address, but see you do a bit of that too. This is on both E6 and on Garmin Golf app. On E6 I get the yellow "calculating" dot all the time when I am about to hit the ball. Any insight is appreciated. Great Channel!
@Matt. I think you pointed out your problem. Waggle will absolutely cancel out shot if you dont give a 1-2 sec pause between waggle and shot. We hit approx 200 balls the other night and maybe 5-10 didnt register.

@@interview5261 what you can do is use the Garmin Golf app and adjust the elevation and humidity was up. That will give you linger numbers
It’s just the calculation of the algorithms. I’ve also done a video comparing e6. Check that out 😊
Will the room (or area in a room) brightness do anything to the r10 signal?
Shouldn’t do being a radar unit 😊
Now if I purposely make them fly as high as I can it’s better but I know I normally don’t have to swing like that
@@abele8085 this video has diver and long irons ua-cam.com/video/zVE_qqDGy5Y/v-deo.htmlsi=bt6HUf5FbzXT8N7u
How accurate have you found r10 with long irons and a driver?
Perfect for me 😁
how does the calibration on unit come into play?
It calibrates the device for levelling, distances etc so helps if there’s a slight slope to the garage of hitting area on the range and helps to give you the most accurate starting point for the data to be read
Weather and altitude settings…what do you do for those settings indoor
Just use the current location settings
David, is that discount code apply to the R10? Because I tried it and it said it was invalid.
Which discount code mate? I don’t have a discount code for the R10 in this description
Seems it does seem to say invalid for 24/7 golf. They have just switched to a new website so that may be why. Will check in with them 👍🏼
Ok thanks for following up David
Hi mate, do you find that the Garmin dosnt pick up a lot of shots?
Not at all, mine picks up every shot. Just make sure you’ve updated it
@@davidmaxfieldgolf I have the same issue as Rtg13.
Have you ever tested the RCT ball or your diy dot on E6? I use E6 predominantly and am curious if you had just as much luck with that program as you have had with the Garmin app and Awesome golf. Cheers.
The Garmin soo is definitely better with the RCT balls. Awesome golf I didn’t see much of a difference but they both work welll
@@davidmaxfieldgolf is E6 the same as Garmin algorithm? So should be improved?
@@todpharis4996 It’s not the same algorithm but the RCT ball should improve it
Very informative video. Please lose the background music. Thanks!
Yeah will be reduced
Please make the music louder I could almost hear what you were saying.

stupid music in the background so that you cannot hear what he's saying. Nice
