7:56 the reason why Clara acted that way is that she was hurt that Doctor would go though such misery for her. She was angry that he would sacrifice himself like that.
@@deeendee7162 true, but he did plan on doing it for her either way, maybe not going back to save him but he was willing to resurrect him after Clara betrayed him, but she wasn’t thinking clearly at the time considering she JUST lost her boyfriend without even telling him she loved him back.
@Luka Macdonald, it would be fair but he didn't understand a large part of it, and a lot of criticisms seemed immature. I feel if he rewatched at lot of Series 9 he'd have a different opinion.
Luka Macdonald Heaven Sent is my all time favorite doctor who episode and I’ve watched every season multiple times. It’s a beautiful episode that shows how to doctor thinks and grieves. It shows how he deals with the situation after losing his companion, and shows how far he is willing to go to respect her legacy, that he is willing to spend 4.5 billion years inside the confession dial. This is all held together by excellent directing and cinematography, and breathtaking score by Murray Gold.
It’s not that Clara isn’t greatful, it’s that she’s horrified that he put himself through all that pain for BILLIONS of years just to save her, she wouldn’t want him to do that for her because she’s not that selfish, she died as she wanted. He did remember everything about the dial and every death and all the pain
I was there before it closed, the food was good, but not entirely authentic. They had a ton of American memorabilia on the counter and a TV playing old American movies. When the waitress realized we were in Cardiff for the Doctor Who experience she showed us that the back door was painted to look like a TARDIS, and took a picture for us. Whitaker had just been announced as the doctor, so we talked about that. Good times, I was sad to hear it closed.
Regarding Clara not being super grateful about The Doctor's actions since her death, I don't think I would be very happy to find out after my passing that my loved one spent countless years torturing herself to try and see me again. I wouldn't want my death to cause any more pain and harm than necessary, much less billions of years of nightmares and death. It's a touching scene, honestly. I always choke up when Clara tearfully asks him why he would even do that to himself
Dude. I have no idea how you coulda liked this, I think me and everyone else watched a different episode. I genuinely think that was absolutely awful. Gallifrey was used as a plot device and didn't matter in the slightest. It was literally used to bring Clara back. Her departure and death was reversed (which we all saw coming), but I didn't think that Gallifrey would be made absolutely pointless like it was here. How do they get back to Gallifrey? Is it just "open for business" now? I guess it doesn't really matter like Capaldi said. I cannot understand how these Timelords were in a war, because they were absolutely useless. Rassilon literally INVENTED time travel, and we've seen before when he was Timothy Dalton that he can successfully kill timelords with his "lightning death glove." And the soldiers turn on him because the Doctor "won the time war." What? And they just leave Gallifrey halfway through. It didn't matter: only Clara did. The Hybrid didn't matter at all anyway: I don't understand who the villain was, or why Moffat would create this ending for that story arc. Is the Doctor half human? I guess it doesn't matter. Well, I don't think Doctor Who matters anymore. It just didn't make sense, ruined Clara's ending, ruined the power of the Time Lords, wasted the new Rassilon, wasted Gallifrey, didn't explain how Clara could survive (or she just comes back there when she "wants to die", which is sometime in the future... maybe? That was my understanding. I guess it doesn't matter, like every single part of this episode) and most of all it made the Doctor into a killer who uses guns and physical violence to get his way. The General was on his side. Why was Ohilia in the episode? What actually happened of consequence in the story. Oh, it was the Doctor forgetting all about Clara... which wasn't explained as well. Does he remember what she taught him? How he became a better man because of her? I didn't get the message of this episode at all, perhaps it was supposed to be flashy emotional entertainment, which it certainly would've been... if Clara hadn't died like four times before this episode. And if it was better than Face the Raven, which it certainly wasn't. Hated it. It wasn't a story set on Gallifrey. It was a set of events to get Clara out. The Doctor didn't actually do much on Gallifrey (except liberated it, which sounds like a lot when it's put that way, but it happens in the space of 5 minutes). None of the Gallifrey stuff that you stated (for me) actually meant anything: it was all a flashy distraction for viewers because the underlying story was completely and utterly about Clara (again). Like in Day of the Doctor, when he saves Gallifrey from the time war by not blowing it up and the time war is expanded upon, that's a story. This.. just wasn't for me. It was a series of events that had no meaning.
+Macca Burger It's now a very Feminist Dr Who now. Ever since the opening episode of the Capaldi run, any male characters have been shown as idiots, the Doctor included in many episodes.
The fact that Heaven Sent was 100 time better though automatically made me underwhelmed. Plus it was boring and pretty much destroyed Clara's departure.
@@DiamondFire Clara sucked but at least she had a good death scene it was a great episode even for Clara then they piss on that and make Clara the doctors puppy in hell bent following him around and she gets to pretty much live forever how dumb is that
I think it partially could have been fixed, if they rewrote it to cut out the diner scenes, and after the doctor’s mind wipe, Clara repeated her final lines to Ashildr “let me be brave” before stepping back to accept her death
@@Zach90888 I just watched the episode for the first time since it came out and I completely agree. I wish there were actual visible growing consequences for disrupting that fixed point in time which could only be resolved by Clara going back.
I watch Heaven Sent at least once a month to remember why I'm burning so willingly in this dumpster fire. It's the one time the writers gave Peter Capaldi what he deserved. It's not a 4/10. Nope nope.
+tabularasa0606 I agree this series finale was so boring I find watching RTD finale repeats are more interesting and when my older brother is in the room he clings back onto dr who again, As soon as Clara came back I knew the whole episode will be diedicated to how much Moffat loved wanking off to Clara. Hell bent synopsis and trailer was completely misleading. The Legendary Time Lords were back, Galifrey was back I was expecting a massive war like promised I was expected legendary Galifreyan tech and awesome scenes, But nope the episode was used to Highlight how pretty Clara was. The diner scenes were annoying too I hate how Moffat makes his episodes so the end starts at the beginning and beginning end Just make it continuous. Also is it me or does the diner seem less colourful, dull than when in Series 6. Basically the episode was turned back into Clara fest within the first ten minutes
+tabularasa0606 Dr Who has been going downhill since Capaldi took over. I'm not blaming Capaldi, but Moffat and co. The entire show has been getting more and more Feminist. And especially after the Christmas episode, I'm really not sure if I'll be watching any more.
+The Batman I think Capaldi is an excellent Doctor, some of his episodes sucked, just like previous Doctors including Classic Who. Colin Baker and Sylvester McCoy had some horrible writing, but their performances as the Doctor kept me watching, just like Calpadi. Your entitled to your opinion too bad you will miss season 10.
Having seen it a second time, I actually really enjoyed this episode. I think the reason I didn’t enjoy it the first time was because I didn’t understand what it would be about. I thought it would be about saving gallifrey but instead it was about finishing the doctor’s arc about losing Clara and becoming the hybrid. Having realised that, the episode was flipping amazing when rewatching it! So yeah, that’s my thoughts... ya welcome
Huh. You seemed to have the reverse reaction to the finale episodes than most others. I liked both of them so I'm accepting of both your opinions on the episode. The retro TARDIS in this episode is actually white, as opposed to light green (old monochrome video couldn't handle white, so anything appearing white was really ever-so-slightly-not-quite white). It is possible this was the replica from docu-drama An Adventure in Space and Time. I somehow doubt that though, and think they most likely built another replica.
at around 4:20 when you call all the people timelords - I always understood that not every Galyfreyan was a timelord, only the "elite class" that also lived in the citadel and used freaky technology like TARDISes. maybe all of them are almost immortal and can revive, but not all of them are "timelords". and the normal people saw the hero and legend he was and still is, not some kind of angel... good video though, subbed :D
I liked this episode, and honestly season 9 is one of my favorite seasons after 4 and 1, but heaven sent is so much better than hell bent. Hell Bent wasn't as awful as many fans seem to think, but it wasn't heaven sent.
I know a lot of people hated this episode but I actually liked it the first time I watched it. Am currently rewatching the Capaldi episodes so I don't know yet if it will hold up on a rewatch
The biggest problem I had with this episode is the fact that the Doctor killed the general. They tried to shrug it off by saying, "No harm done; he'll just regenerate." But whenever the Doctor dies and has to regenerate, it's treated as a tragedy. We'll never see *that* Doctor again. Either it means something or it doesn't. More problematic, now the Doctor has killed. And then had the memory of that action erased. So from now on, whenever the Doctor claims he is not a killer, he doesn't know it, but he is lying. In general, I really like the entire run of the new Doctor Who-- even a lot of episodes that people claim are bad are among my favorites. But this episode just felt way too rushed. The consequences of the Doctor's actions were not properly dealt with. That's bound to happen all the time in a series with as open a premise as Doctor Who-- threads get dropped or overlooked when new stories come along. But this is one that still bothers me.
I agree… partly. What happened to the "I never would" doctor? Even when he was on the brink of death himself he wouldn't use a gun. There was also this long speech with Wilfred which didn’t mean anything anymore after that episode.
You seem to be misunderstanding that Clara scene where she's angry with the doctor for breaking through the confession dial. Her LAST speech before face the raven was her telling the doctor she accepted her death, and would gladly go out and face it. And for him not change because of it, because it was HER fault, not his. And Mr.NooneLeftBehind over here sacrifices billions of years in order to save her, despite her acceptance. Imagine a person you love, going through that for you. Imagine how you'd react. Personally the first thing I'd say to them would be something along the lines of, "Why would you even do that?" Which OH LOOK THAT'S WHAT SHE SAID??? Why would you say "Thank you." To someone saving your life at the expense of billions of years of theirs? She doesn't know how the confession dial worked, she doesn't even know he died billions of times in there. All she knows is her best friend put himself through hell, a hell she couldn't even imagine, for her. I sure as shit wouldn't be HAPPY about that.
WHAAAAaAAAAAAAAAAATT?????????!!!!!!!You liked this?! You are the first person to actually PRAISE this episode since the fanbase thought this was utter utter bullsh**e
yeah this episode is pretty much everything i hate about new who and modern television in general, no one can die (and if they do they can't stay dead because who wants an emotional story line), everything must be reset aty the end, you can't take any risks and every chance of a good story after years of building it up is totally wasted to have a completly pointless and unemotional story with no character growth or any consequences.
Arif Akyuz Bullshit isn't written with an "e" at the end. And I liked it. Thought it was a funny story. Even though Gallifrey was a bit underused I thought it was pretty interesting and at one point there probably will be a spin off with Clara and Me which could end with Me being a better person and Clara returning to face the raven (pun intended). Clara and Me don't even have to appear on Doctor Who anymore.
With Ashildir the way that I head-canoned it for myself was by saying that when technology became advanced enough she had some kind of cybernetic memory implant put in so she is able to remember everything. Assuming this happens in what would be our near future, its reasonable for her to have naturally remembered the raven incident before having her memory artificially improved.
8:40 - About the set in the Gallifreyan TARDIS : I'm quite sure this was the same console room that they used in An Adventure in Space and Time, but slightly modified. It's not the original one - it is in fact a reconstruction.
Can I tell you something that you got wrong? Well whatever I'm telling you anyway. Time Lord is NOT A RACE! Time Lord is a rank. If you even know any classic Doctor Who you'll know that Time Lord is a rank not a species.
Are they Galifreyans then? Never actually knew that, even with my limited knowledge on the classic series. One thing though, when he explains he's an alien he rarely uses any other title aside from "Time Lord". If a high ranking member of the military were to explain his species to an alien, I highly doubt they'd call themselves a general.
***** yes they are Gallifreians (I don't know how to spell it). If you watch Invasion Of Time you'll see average Gallifreians invading the Time Lords with Leila. It's really frustrated me that they refer to Time Lord as a race.
How's that "narrow minded". There's no official continuity to this show it's purely up to the fans who decide it. Just because you can't except the truth doesn't make it wrong
Holy SHIET! Harry just reminded me: Is the scene with Masey a forshadow for "the timeless children"!? :O (I mean, it still sucks, but at least i can no longer say it's "right out of the blue"! :/ )
7:54 Well hold on now on Clara's behalf think about that for a second. The Doctor, a person she cares for, spent ALL that time in the confession dial, suffering, alone, all because he was at both times trying to avoid coming to Galifrey via the way the Time Lords had intended, and so he could save Clara. But Clara never asked him to do that, she wanted her death to be honored, and he basically tortured himself to reverse what she'd done right? That's Pain for the Doctor she never wanted for him, Guilt on her shoulders because of what he went through for here sake that she never wanted. I mean yeah so she was mad at the Doctor for doing that to himself when he didn't need to. Because that';s what you do when people you care about try to punish themselves.
I don't even need to watch this video to tell you (speaking as a lifelong Whovian) that yes, it sucked. Some great acting, some nice emotional moments. But all of it ruined by illogical writing, poor plotting, and once again overriding previous consequences. The tagline for that Zeigon two parter was truth or consequences? Well in the end this had neither.
Wait.. what.. A diner spi9nning through space, with the invincible duo on board? Dear god, please no.. don't tell me the BBC bought the rights, and will have this pair of twonks rescuing two of the most powerful beings in the Universe? [ Well.. actually three.. unless Silver escaped of course)
Heaven Sent and Hell Bent were good enough for me to not only accept this series as a good one. But also gave me hope in Steven Moffat again. All these episodes show is that when Moffat cares he is actually still a very very good writer. He just needs to bring better writers onto the payroll for the season. As for the episode itself, I have to applaud the creativity in getting rid of clara. I did not see that twist coming. And that's what I loved about Doctor Who, keeping me guessing, surprising me, Doctor Who hasn't done that since series 6 for me and i'm glad that we have that back. For one Ashildir was interesting, Clara wasn't annoying, I loved the stuff on Gallifrey and the score and acting was all superb, and that new Sonic, OMG I FUCKING LOVE THE DESIGN SO MUCH. And sure they did leave the possibility open for clara and ashildir to come back into DW, but with moffat saying "Clara will never return" I don't think she will, at least not with him as show runner. Although I wouldn't be opposed to Big Finnish doing some stories with them. Overall, this episode made me so excited for season 10, since now we have nothing from the matt smith era, it's all new, Capaldi can finally come into his own as the Doctor without smiths baggage. I'm in love with Doctor Who again, thank you Moffat. and i'm so glad you were able to enjoy this episode too Harry :). Can't wait to see more videos.
I am very confused as to this guy’s mentality on this. Heaven sent may just be Capaldi’s best episode. Hell bent undoes a lot of the greatness that heaven sent did.
The "working class Time Lords" are not Time Lords at all. They are working class, but they have not been awarded the title of Time Lord. They don't have the gift of regeneration. They are mortals, just like humans. They are basically the ones that keep Gallifrey running while the Time Lords do all their warring and inventing and stuff. That's why they live outside the domed city in shacks instead of massive, space-bending palaces. The Doctor was one of very few Time Lords that thought the power should've been used to help all people, but Rassilon, the only one capable of giving the gift of regeneration (and childbirth) thought it should only go to the educated. That is why they have come to watch The Doctor eat soup. Not to watch him eat while they are hungry. Because they are not hungry, they have plenty of food. But because he's a Time Lord that has bothered to show his presence among them, to sit at THEIR table. To defend THEIR lives rather than the Domed City.
hell bent, did it suck. yes. clara should have remained dead (what's the point in killing of a character if you're just going to bring them back straight away with no repercussions), Me should have been left for another story and the hybrid hadn't had enough time to make me care about what it was (although that may be because i'm tired of the word of the series, how about we just have a surprising reveal without having to spend the whole series going "look at me, loook at me, i'm hinting at something really cleaver annd you don't know what it is.", only to find out that it barely meant anything because there are no stakes in new who as no characters are allowed to die and the reset button gets pushed at every opportunity) so should have been left for the next series, or just have it in the background for several seasons. the Doctor should have spent the whole episode dealing with the repercussions of changing time and saving galifray. with rassilon being the bad guy wanting revenge and galifray split down the middle one side with the Doctor (with romarna, ace, the war cheif guy/woman, lela, the witches of khan, the non timelord galifrayions, two seperate K-9's (that could led to a few jokes), etc) and one side with rassilon. maybe throw in missy and some call backs to the Doctors past stories on galifray and maybe even to him being the reincarnation of the Other. and then a hint at bringing back omaga or the black and white gaurdians or morbius or the Monk or something that would be more interesting than either the daleks, the cybermen or the master because i'm getting really fucking bored of it always being those three villains (in old who you could go a whole series without seeing a single recurring villain and that was nice, it stopped them from getting boring and not feeling weak, when they did arrive they were a power house of shit going down, not the same guys from the last series again). but instead after years of galifray being gone and then saving and then missing and know found, we don't do anything at all with all of it's rich past and story possiblities and instead spend the whole time bring clara back for no reason, having Me show up for no reason and have the reset button pushed. hell bent is the prime example of how to waste a great opportunity and instead ruining a characters death and the set up because the writer can't let go of a character.
Been watching through your Who reviews. This is the first one I've disagreed on. Hell Bent: -10/10. Undoes any good will Capaldi's era may have generated so far.
I'm really surprised you liked this episode as much as you did. I would have thought the weak non-resolution to the hybrid, anti-climactic use of Gallifrey and resurrection of CLara/granting of her a tardis would have come in for more severe criticism.
+Monty Hedstrom I think the resolution of the hybrid wasn't bad at all, but the lack of galifrey is one of the reasons I gave it a 9 instead of a 10, but the episode was still very enjoyable for me, because of the elements I've outlined.
I would prefer if they just dropped the sonic entirely. In the classic series it was used sparingly most of the time but in the new series it's like a bloody magic wand that just fixes everything. there's only so many things that highly focused sound waves can achieve and the writers are using it as a crutch to get him out of any nasty situation just to keep the plot moving forward. I had a little hope at the start of series 9 when he lost it that maybe we'd get to see him go without it for a bit but nope. then we got the bloody sonic sunglasses. It's like light sabres in the starwars prequels. They whip them out far too often
Dude, this episode, compared to Heaven Sent, is utter trash. The worst thing is the way it totally reverses Clara's satisfying arc. She was becoming more and more confident and turning into a sudo-doctor. This comes to ahead as she takes matters into her own in face the raven, leaving to her death. This undoes all of this build up and leaves her feeling empty. The whole thing is just a complete farse. Is boring, non-sensical and physically painful to watch. But, whatever, it's just my opinion...
The episode was all flash and no substance. It should have been an episode about Gallifrey and the Doctor's relationship with the Time Lords (particularly Rassilon). Instead, it's all about Clara again. Worse than that.. she's actually resurrected! That totally undermined the emotional (not to mention plot) impact of "Face The Raven" and "Heaven Sent". Neither Clara or the Doctor learned anything from those two previous episodes. Instead, the Doctor doesn't have to face his sorrow or guilt over Clara's death and Clara's impetuousness and recklessness is rewarded with a second chance at life and a TARDIS of her own to continue her reckless adventures. Terrible Mr. Moffat, terrible.
There is a line in heaven sent where the doctor is in his mind palace and says to 'clara' that he remembers every single time he gets reincarnated so in fact, his brain is running for 4 billion years, however its only when the new copy of him realises what is happening that he remembers every other copies life.
That's so funny- I loved Heaven Sent as much as you love Hell Bent- while- asides from the opening scene, I got so annoyed everything in the last ep was aimed at saving Clara- He couldn't even be bothered to bring his TARDIS to another state or country to get Amy and Rory back from the past... all that for freakin' Clara? Ugh. I think you missed that at the end of his loops there he would remember everything, he says it as a line- so even though he was renewing, his memories would come back later- I kind of went with when he died with the cables to his brain he kind of had his memories implanted on the new him, and it just took an extreme trigger to snap them back- so while he did come back new, he had the memory of doing it all that time- which is why he's a bit frantic at times once he has her. (imo) Her being upset he stuck himself in an almost literal hell when he could have stopped it at anytime I found redeeming- she didn't see herself as being worth all that, and she was upset not at him doing it for her, but him doing it to himself. There's a difference, and I felt it was the only time in the series she really cared for him on the same level he cared for her since turning into Capaldi... It almost redeemed her to me for thinking she was throwing the TARDIS keys into a volcano because of the "I can't bring back the dead"- which I hated...
strange that Rigsy's mural to Clara disintegrated when the TARDIS dematerialised when in the Classic serial the Happiness patrol he and Ace had to repaint it blue after it had been painted pink in that serials first episode 🤔
Oh God! I'm midway through this review and it has been pointed out by the reviewer that Clara should have been more thankful to the Doctor for saving her, and instead she 'bitches' about it as if he has done something wrong. Well for starters... Yes he has done something massively wrong. Clara at this point has been dead for 4.5 billion years and time has passed, making her death a fixed point. If the Doctor had succeeded in undoing her death, it would have had severe consequences. Clara's death was a result of her own recklessness and she had faced the consequences for it. Ultimately when she realizes that she had made a mistake and that her death was inevitable, she made peace with it and chose to confront the raven. And No! the Doctor's mind had not been reset every time he burnt a new copy of himself. He remembered every past experience when he reached room 12. That is the moment he would lose his shit, when he would realize what he had been doing there. He even says this in his tardis stormroom monologue..' That's when i remember, exactly then'...That's when he would make the connection between the azbantium wall and the 'bird'. That's the moment he freezes in horror, when he remembers what he has been doing all along.
I'm pretty sure that this is the most well reviewed episode this series. For once I was glad to hear you say loads of positive stuff instead of just moaning at the episode throughout the review. Under the lake is probably the only other episode this series that you reviewed really positively. But that's fine because I enjoy listening to you criticising an episode because it makes me laugh unlike some other reviews where they just sit there and talk to a camera. I'm going to miss watching your reviews. But thanks Harry for making reviews that make me smile and laugh! :-) :-)
+Harry's Moving Castle yer I know it's just ill miss you reviewing new doctor who. I know your gonna do old doctor who but it won't be the same as I can pretty much tell which episodes you'll think did suck and which you think didn't.
That intro sequence with the "party" thing totally cracked me up. And thanks for the shout out xD. So is Hell Bent your new favorite of the Capaldi era, or do you still prefer Flatline?
+Here's Yo Smoothie! I think flatline takes the cake because I think the first third of this episode was perfect. It wasn't until Clara started getting involved that it started becoming a bit less interesting, but the episode as a whole was probably my favourite of this series. I'm going to have to find a new party soon otherwise people might sober up from the HMC buzz.
+Harry's Moving Castle Well I'm really looking forward to seeing what you'll have to say about some of the older reboot episodes, as well as Sherlock and the others.
It´s been a new set! The original design for William Hartnell was actually green, so green "round things"! You just couldn´t see it as green back then, obviously, because of the black and white!
I found the episode rather silly unfortunately, to attempt to talk about the story is nearly laughable for one, the doctor lands on Gallifrey, he takes over. Brings back Clara, goes to a room where a lot of nothing happened and then he gets his mind wiped; it's execution does not help either due to the lack of backstory for those whom don't know the lore as well as they clearly need to for if they are to enjoy this episode. The only positives is the presentation for which you mentioned. I am very bored of this as this point, terrible episode after episode in my opinion. Great videos dude, :)
Two thoughts on this episode: 1) Where was Old Clara at the End of the Universe? If Ashilde/Me had brought her with her in the past and she was immortal too, then she should've been there in the only remaining piece of land left in the Universe too. There's literally nothing but that one small room, nowhere to hide, they made a point of pointing that out, so where is she? 2) Ashilde and Clara are immortal, they cannot die, not from anything. Unlike Harkness/Face of Boe, they don't even age. That means not even the end of the Universe will kill them. So when there's nothing left, when the last star has had its last gasp and the last bit of matter, their little room, has been converted into energy and that energy has dissipated into dark energy, all that will be left is vacuum and two floating girls, forever choking for all eternity. Like imagine the trillions of years leading up to that moment. Then imagine that's only a fraction of the time they'll exist. THAT'S how long they'll spend choking in the void without even having light to see each other floating around. I guess Moffat didn't think about that when he wrote that stupid plot line...
By the time Ashielda or whatever her name is was in that street in London she had been doing the alien gathering stuff (I don't like series 9 so I may be getting details wrong - well I know I am), couldn't one of those creatures have known how to expand someones memory capacity? Or people in the future could have been making technology to bring back people with Dementia's memories, as they are sort of trying to now, I believe, so couldn't that have maybe worked? However, I do not think that these ideas where actually thought through and I think this is just me making excuses for things in my own head.
OMG all I have heard is Heaven Sent was the best and Hell Bent was awful, when Heaven Sent was so painful watching him die and fail over and over, and over and over and over it was torture to watch, where as Hell Bent was truly Kick Arse and a great pay off from the utter torture of Heaven Sent
I fucking hate that he abandoned gallifrey without a leader after saving it, I remember him as the 9th doctor mourning destroying it and doing anything to get it back yet here he is fucking off after saving someone that should've died
YOU DIDN'T LIKE HEAVEN SENT BUT YOU LIKED HELL BENT?!?!?!?!? You go through Heaven Sent nitpicking and then you address none of the problems in this video.
This is and will always remain the worst episode of Dr who ever and it can burn in Hell. This is a bad episode. You are drunk to say 9/10 on *_THIS_* and 4/10 on the greatest episode in existence Heaven Sent so. Uh... Also, I hope you are satisfied- because Moffat does explain Heaven Sent! To get The Hybrid Confession. Uh... you are just... so.... wrong.... And you have no problem with Clara's Stupid return again!? You do when it's 30 seconds of her!?
Wait wait wait, he liked Hell Bent and hated Heaven Sent....wait a minute just wait wait wait, what? That's a genuine wtf. Even after watching a lot of your content, I thought your opinions would be the other way around due to what you look for in episodes
I literally fist-pumped when you said you would be reviewing the older doctor who episodes, that's fucking awesome. But, my family now thinks I'm mentally challenged.
PSSSSTTT. I'm not *entirely* sure but I think he sprinkled a hell of a load of sarcasm into this. As well as heaven sent. Deliberately reversing them. Perhaps poking fun at how easy it is to find holes in good things and praises in bad things? Or just bc he wanted to have a laugh
Heaven Sent - 4/10
Hell Bent - 9/10
No Harry, it's the other way around...
Benjamin Seebold look Jessica this might come as a shock to you but everyone has a different opinion
Hell bent is 3/10 and heaven sent 10/10 imo but yeah the same idea.
Hehe, for me too :)
You're right
He also missed out on the bit in heaven sent when the doctor said 'I can remember all the other times'
7:56 the reason why Clara acted that way is that she was hurt that Doctor would go though such misery for her. She was angry that he would sacrifice himself like that.

@@Maeve_Rose I mean, sure, but she also got pissed the Doctor wouldn't ressurect her dead boyfriend, whom the doctor had pretty much no ties to, so...
@@deeendee7162 true, but he did plan on doing it for her either way, maybe not going back to save him but he was willing to resurrect him after Clara betrayed him, but she wasn’t thinking clearly at the time considering she JUST lost her boyfriend without even telling him she loved him back.
He hates heaven sent but loves hell bent????
Charlie Warner that’s how I feel. It’s not completely unheard of 😆
@Luka Macdonald, it would be fair but he didn't understand a large part of it, and a lot of criticisms seemed immature. I feel if he rewatched at lot of Series 9 he'd have a different opinion.
@Luka Macdonald really? I found it intresting that the Doctor had to be alone with his greatest fear, and he was greiving for his dead friend to
@Luka Macdonald oops sorry i replied to the wrong one
"A re-used set", the Diner is a real Diner in Cardiff, I've been there. =P
One of my goals now is to visit this diner some day xD
@@lepimond4605 It closed down
@@leonmarshall8727 r/therewasanattempt
I went there as well, i sat in cubicle 11 which you might have guessed, 11 actually sat in
I was there before it closed, the food was good, but not entirely authentic.
It's not the original set. When seen in colour, the original TARDIS console was mint-green rather than pure white.
4:41 You forgot to mention the fact that they say 'drop your weapons' and he puts the spoon down because he sees it as a weapon.
bigbigcheese2 haha I never realised that before
Regarding Clara not being super grateful about The Doctor's actions since her death, I don't think I would be very happy to find out after my passing that my loved one spent countless years torturing herself to try and see me again.
+Macca Burger I totally agree!!
+Macca Burger It's now a very Feminist Dr Who now. Ever since the opening episode of the Capaldi run, any male characters have been shown as idiots, the Doctor included in many episodes.
What about The Tenth General? The Ken Bones one in this episode?
I couldn't read all of that
That's wayyyyyyyy to long
Jesus he's so happy gosh season 11 breaks this guy
The fact that Heaven Sent was 100 time better though automatically made me underwhelmed. Plus it was boring and pretty much destroyed Clara's departure.
i mean i doubt anybody was sad about her leaving thouygh
@@DiamondFire Clara sucked but at least she had a good death scene it was a great episode even for Clara then they piss on that and make Clara the doctors puppy in hell bent following him around and she gets to pretty much live forever how dumb is that
I think it partially could have been fixed, if they rewrote it to cut out the diner scenes, and after the doctor’s mind wipe, Clara repeated her final lines to Ashildr “let me be brave” before stepping back to accept her death
@@Zach90888 I just watched the episode for the first time since it came out and I completely agree. I wish there were actual visible growing consequences for disrupting that fixed point in time which could only be resolved by Clara going back.

repeats are more interesting and when my older brother is in the room he
clings back onto dr who again, As soon as Clara came back I knew the
whole episode will be diedicated to how much Moffat loved wanking off to
Clara. Hell bent synopsis and trailer was completely misleading. The
Legendary Time Lords were back, Galifrey was back I was expecting a

awesome scenes, But nope the episode was used to Highlight how pretty
Clara was.
The diner scenes were annoying too I hate how Moffat makes his episodes
so the end starts at the beginning and beginning end Just make it
continuous.
Also is it me or does the diner seem less colourful, dull than when in
Series 6.
+blackham7 And then we get this build up about Rassalon, then he just gets taken down within a couple of seconds.
I agree that hell bent suck.

Having seen it a second time, I actually really enjoyed this episode. I think the reason I didn’t enjoy it the first time was because I didn’t understand what it would be about. Having realised that, the episode was flipping amazing when rewatching it! So yeah, that’s my thoughts... ya welcome

@@KnightRaymund then why does it have a 8.6 out of 10 on IMDB?

I know a lot of people hated this episode but I actually liked it the first time I watched it. Am currently rewatching the Capaldi episodes so I don't know yet if it will hold up on a rewatch
Yeah... Clara ruins this entire episode
All Things Doctor Who! *Season
true clara is the worst
it wasn't lack of gratitude, she was upset that he'd suffered so long....
Sh**e is the British spelling.
shite
Pardon my past tendencies to write unnecessarily censored swear words in lieu of safer words, it was quite a bullshite thing of me to do.
I was constantly waiting for the moment where you said, "HA I'm just kidding it was actually awful!" But that never happened...
Gallifreyans are natives of Gallifrey that have not received their regenerations
I just wanna know why they look identical to humans or humans look galifreyen seeing as they came first
Haha good point
Worst episode so far if you ask me.
This show has no continuity. You must not be a real fan of you think that
TheGeoXWar no true Scotsman fallacy i see ;c
How's that "narrow minded". There's no official continuity to this show it's purely up to the fans who decide it. Just because you can't except the truth doesn't make it wrong
I got continuity confused with canon. My bad
What does continuity got to do with this episode being awful?
Hell Bent did suck. A new sonic screwdriver doesn't make it good.
Cyber TARDIS we know, it being a good episode is what makes it good
Except this wasn't a good episode either.
Cyber TARDIS you’re right…
I love the scene when the soldiers refuse to attack, that’s a great scene, scenes like that make it good
Nerd note: It was a red-tail hawk cry. TV always uses that because an eagle cry is wimpy...
It's not the original set as they destroyed it in the seventies.
Also, 2/10. No Timothy Dalton.
Holy SHIET! Harry just reminded me: Is the scene with Masey a forshadow for "the timeless children"!? :O
(I mean, it still sucks, but at least i can no longer say it's "right out of the blue"!
A device that erases Clara from your memory. Where can I get one?
I genuinely thought you where being ironic about this being a good episode, right until you gave it a 9/10, and kept the serious tone.
I was wondering what you would think, glad you liked it, thanks for the comment!
To defend THEIR lives rather than the Domed City.
bruh what is that music at 9:12 I recognise it but I just can't remember where it's from
hell bent, did it suck. yes. clara should have remained dead (what's the point in killing of a character if you're just going to bring them back straight away with no repercussions), Me should have been left for another story and the hybrid hadn't had enough time to make me care about what it was (although that may be because i'm tired of the word of the series, how about we just have a surprising reveal without having to spend the whole series going "look at me, loook at me, i'm hinting at something really cleaver annd you don't know what it is.", only to find out that it barely meant anything because there are no stakes in new who as no characters are allowed to die and the reset button gets pushed at every opportunity) so should have been left for the next series, or just have it in the background for several seasons.
the Doctor should have spent the whole episode dealing with the repercussions of changing time and saving galifray. with rassilon being the bad guy wanting revenge and galifray split down the middle one side with the Doctor (with romarna, ace, the war cheif guy/woman, lela, the witches of khan, the non timelord galifrayions, two seperate K-9's (that could led to a few jokes), etc) and one side with rassilon. maybe throw in missy and some call backs to the Doctors past stories on galifray and maybe even to him being the reincarnation of the Other. and then a hint at bringing back omaga or the black and white gaurdians or morbius or the Monk or something that would be more interesting than either the daleks, the cybermen or the master because i'm getting really fucking bored of it always being those three villains (in old who you could go a whole series without seeing a single recurring villain and that was nice, it stopped them from getting boring and not feeling weak, when they did arrive they were a power house of shit going down, not the same guys from the last series again).
but instead after years of galifray being gone and then saving and then
missing and know found, we don't do anything at all with all of it's
rich past and story possiblities and instead spend the whole time bring
clara back for no reason, having Me show up for no reason and have the
reset button pushed.
hell bent is the prime example of how to waste a great opportunity and instead ruining a characters death and the set up because the writer can't let go of a character.
I think this episode could have been passable if Moffat didn't feel like he had to change the whole reason why the doctor left galifrey
This episode insulted me as a doctor who fan, an author and a human being
With hindsight, it is absolutely relieving that the firing squad missed the shots, knowing what the Doctor would have regenerated into
The episode was all flash and no substance.
That's so funny- I loved Heaven Sent as much as you love Hell Bent- while- asides from the opening scene, I got so annoyed everything in the last ep was aimed at saving Clara-
He couldn't even be bothered to bring his TARDIS to another state or country to get Amy and Rory back from the past... all that for freakin' Clara? Ugh.
I think you missed that at the end of his loops there he would remember everything, he says it as a line- so even though he was renewing, his memories would come back later-
I kind of went with when he died with the cables to his brain he kind of had his memories implanted on the new him, and it just took an extreme trigger to snap them back- so while he did come back new, he had the memory of doing it all that time- which is why he's a bit frantic at times once he has her. (imo)
Her being upset he stuck himself in an almost literal hell when he could have stopped it at anytime I found redeeming- she didn't see herself as being worth all that, and she was upset not at him doing it for her, but him doing it to himself.
6:36 this is my favorite running joke 😂
finally someone that loves this episode as much as I do, its one of my all time favourite episodes and the best from s9.
I laughed so hard at "You should be more f*cking grateful"
+Mastercheif1345 I'm not stopping, I'm just reviewing other stuff before the new year. :)
The tardis set is new, not the original. the original was bigger, green, and had a few minor structural differences.
Just how
I like heaven sent more the hell bent because heaven sent is actually an art episode
Ah yes, Hell Bent, a fan favorite
Why is everyone complaining!?!?! He finally gave a freaking positive review lmao
Finally, someone who loved Hell Bent! I thought I was alone... so alone...
Well, you two will be alone forever whilst angry fans beat you with sticks.
The Lego Communist basically
@@TheSmart-CasualGamer Lots of ppl love Hell Bent, personally I think it's top tier Moffat
Two thoughts on this episode:
1) Where was Old Clara at the End of the Universe?
I thought that the dinner Clara was one of her copies
Also though: Since Claras and Maiseys tardis cameleoncircuit WASN'T broken, WHY is it STILL a diner IN SPACE!? D:
Jami Reid Quarrell and his heelies, you cant keep them away from him
i believe the 'original' tardis interior is the new version they built for the William Hartnell/doctor who documentary from a few years ago.
How on Earth is this is one of the episodes from series 9 you give a positive review too???
I liked both those episodes, they were all Doctor wanting to not be alone and dealing with PTSD after being in the confession dial
You hate heaven sent but you love hell bent
So, what I would like to see in the new season Clara gaining the doctors memory to rember her
I fucking hate that he abandoned gallifrey without a leader after saving it, I remember him as the 9th doctor mourning destroying it and doing anything to get it back yet here he is fucking off after saving someone that should've died
The TARDIS set used was a redone version of the one seen in An Adventure In Space And Time (2013)
Clara and me would be better than what we have now
My major problem is that the Diner TARDIS looks nothing like the actual Diner, you can tell it's entirely different in shape, size and colours.
Common misconception but, not all Gallifreyans are Time Lords. Time Lord is an honorific, like Doctor, or Professor, or any military rank.
The set of the original TARDIS was the one from "an adventure in space and time" for the documentary about the first doctor
+Ace Creeper I really want to see that, cool factoid!
+Harry's Moving Castle you wanna see the documentary? i think its on DVD, It came out around the 50th
Am I the only one who likes Heaven Sent and Hell Bent?
YOU DIDN'T LIKE HEAVEN SENT BUT YOU LIKED HELL BENT?!?!?!?!?
You go through Heaven Sent nitpicking and then you address none of the problems in this video.
When the first plane tells the dr to drop his weapons and sets down his spoon was that a mention to his robin hood sword vs spoon fight???
This is and will always remain the worst episode of Dr who ever and it can burn in Hell. This is a bad episode. You are drunk to say 9/10 on *_THIS_* and 4/10 on the greatest episode in existence Heaven Sent so. Uh...
Also, I hope you are satisfied- because Moffat does explain Heaven Sent! To get The Hybrid Confession. Uh... you are just... so.... wrong....
And you have no problem with Clara's Stupid return again!? You do when it's 30 seconds of her!?
Just wait until series 11... It gets worse... So much worse...
In the forest of the night. At least the tone of this was consistent and the acting was credible
@@kbg12ila i can watch this one but Hell Bent i don't think i watched without sleep
@@whyarewestillhere7070 YOU GADDEM RIGHT 😂 But at least it's not boring anymore, it's just stupid and awkward
Pretty sure the TARDIS in this is the one from An Adventure in Space and Time
Wait wait wait, he liked Hell Bent and hated Heaven Sent....wait a minute just wait wait wait, what? That's a genuine wtf. Even after watching a lot of your content, I thought your opinions would be the other way around due to what you look for in episodes
Wow, what a nice review!!
About the doctor being half human: that comes from the 1996 tv pilot with the 8th doctor.
I literally fist-pumped when you said you would be reviewing the older doctor who episodes, that's fucking awesome.
But, my family now thinks I'm mentally challenged.
Aw, yeah #gethyped, but why do your family think that? D:
+Harry's Moving Castle because I fist-pumped 😂
+Clara Oswald You watch my videos with your family? XD
+Harry's Moving Castle god, no I was just in the same room and I had headphones on
Bravo!
Ok yeh, to each to their own, but come on, Heaven Sent is crap, Hell Bent is, good? Hmmmmmmmmmmm
PSSSSTTT. I'm not *entirely* sure but I think he sprinkled a hell of a load of sarcasm into this. As well as heaven sent. Deliberately reversing them. Perhaps poking fun at how easy it is to find holes in good things and praises in bad things? Or just bc he wanted to have a laugh
Who else wished that the doctor checked if his sonic screwdriver had a red setting?
Feels like you have the opposite view of the Series 9 finale than mostly everyone else.
