Having had everything from a bicycle to a semi, and many thousands of off road miles. I feel totally comfident in saying a jeep will not go where a good side by side will. This was proven once again only yesterday in the badlands of northern Wyoming.
SxS do have an incredible weight advantage! It is impressive how capable and fun they are off road. It also helps being smaller with less body to risk damaging...
Awesome comparison video my opinion is the jeeps are the way to go and the number one plus side is I can drive my jeep home after the trails you need a truck and trailer for a sxs
Yes. That is a major PRO! In many states like Arizona you can drive home with a SxS (road legal). There are definite scenarios where each vehicle shines. Our biggest dislike with the SxS was noise and dust. But that doesn't bother many people. Fun to see the differences. We learned a ton after owning one!
Funny story... I specifically came to your channel to ask for a comparison between the sxs and a 2dr jeep! This was perfect, and a bonus there was a 4dr and other sxs! I guess I didn't realize a 2dr jeep was as heavy as it is! I also thought you would be able to build one for a lot less than your sxs, but not a Rubicon of course. Anyways, this was awesome, thanks! Which trails?
That's fantastic!! It is interesting to see how different rigs handle the same obstacles. We paid $20k for the RMAX2 and it is incredibly capable stock. We did another video rock crawling it stock. You can tackle most trails without modifications. SxS are the most fun and capable compared to a Jeep for the less money. Trails: Firebreak5, Crushers, Archers Firebreak and a couple others...
I have ben to a few places here in AZ with my jeep where a side by side would not be recommended. Even seen some have a very hard time. I guess it really depends on the trail. One place I like to go there have been areas cleared to be made accessible to side by sides. Where a jeep would do it with no issue.
My experience has been different. Our SxS can easily go places bigger heavier 4WD (Jeeps or similar) struggle. It is crazy easy to drive on extreme terrain. The downsides I've discussed in other videos... Capability is not a downside. By far the most capable trail rig we've owned. We have lots of videos showing this. Every rig has pros/cons. Thanks for sharing your experience.
@@TruckCamper No doubt there are pros and cons to each. I have watched many times where a sxs would have a very difficult time where a jeep/toyota would just walk on through. There are also a number of trails here in AZ that have been modified in order to allow access to sxs. Pretty sad really when the insist on going into areas that they just cannot by these means.
We run around 15 psi. Lower pressure until tire sidewall starts to deflect and test. Key is to achieve larger tire contact while not going too low and losing ground clearance. Reduce speeds when running low pressures (under 30mph). Hope that helps!

Excellent comparison vid.
Thanks! It's fun to see the difference between rigs on the same terrain. :)

Great video cant beat the fun factor in a side by side. Love my Rmax
What size tires on the Polaris 900xc
Agreed. RMAX is just fun! Polaris had 26 or 28" tires. They were small. He needed momentum! :)

I used to be a Jeep guy but my Polaris rzr is so much more fun on the trails and the suspension is so much smoother
SxS do have incredible suspension! We had a ton of fun.
Where is the trail at in Oregon? I’m always looking for fun trails for my RMax4.
That was Tillamook State Forest. Just past Forest Grove on Hwy 6 heading to the coast. It's our old playground when we lived in Oregon. :)
Very nice videos, Did you do any clutching modifications to run the larger tires?
Yes. 1mm sheave spacer. It helped offset the tire size increase
Did you have to lift the Rmax any to lift the 34s? And what offset tires are you running?
Check out our build video: ua-cam.com/video/cuzsXUJxfW8/v-deo.html
Did you air down your tires? If so to what psi.

Hi, Did you keep the sway bar on the front of the RMAX?
Super rock crawling!!! I'm a big fan.
Nope. Sway bar removed. It does work rather well. I'd like to get lower gearing but limited options. More adventures coming soon!
What kind of tire mount is that on the RMAX?
Custom bed rack my buddy built it...
Interesting. The vehicles are more capable than the spotters are knowledgeable
Always fun to push the limits and see what is possible. We had a great time
