      @@marlene-rr2ih Saw a video in which he throws normal white vinegar onto the grout. While it's soaking you put baking soda into a cup of water with vinegar. Let it fizz and stir in blue dawn or any dish-washing liquid. Now put this onto the grout and scrub up and down with a hard brush. Let it sit 10 minutes and scrub again. Wipe off with damp cloth.

    Great clip. Just a safety remark: The gloves are to protect your kidneys and liver because the chemicals used can easily enter the blood stream through your skin and do damage.: single exposure is definitely not as bad as regular contact but that's its not great either compared to safe use of gloves. Also just because you don't immediately feel it doesn't mean that harm did not occur. Lovely video though.

    I have used latex paint on tile and sparthane as the clear coat to prevent the latex from chipping or peeling and it works equally as well. You can paint tile, cultured marble, porcelain, basically anything. I actually used .50 acrylic paint and used the sparthane to clear coat it and it's still holding up 5 years later and I am rough on my counters. So do some research before spending that kind of money on such little paint. There are so many things that work rather well for a fraction of that price. It turned out well though, good job yall!

    The "paint" is more likely to cure faster in the can than in the tray because it is epoxy based and has a exothemic reaction, the only way to slow it down is to spread it thin or cool it down in the fridge (keeping it in a large quantity in a sealed container insulates the mass as it reacts allowing it to retain heat). Also let's see how it looks in 3 or 5 years. Never have seen painted tile hold up that well, it scratches super easily.

    • @TheHandyTech
      @TheHandyTech  6 років тому +6

      Hi Jared, I would say no more than normal paint. In saying that, I made sure to close the room off while it was drying. Also with the cold weather up your side of the world it will probably take longer than the specified 24 hours to dry. Once the paint was dry , I found there was a little bit of a lingering painty smell but it was gone within a couple of days. Hope that helps

      Robert Hein - not certain where you line but here's my input. Appliance paint is an option. Usually available in white. Smelly until cured, best to not be in the dwelling until several days after applied. Also Rustoleum sells a kit. If you have access to Amazon they can ship it to most places. Home Depot sells a kit. Do not skimp on the cleaning process. I utilized the kit from Home Depot and it worked great. (I think it is the same as on Amazon but I never utilized the Amazon option.) I did 2 extra pre-cleaning steps. Wear breathing protection, I purchased a big respirator and am thankful for it. I highly suggest not being in the dwelling for at least a week. Windows open and fans running are highly recommended.

      FarFed I guess that's up to you. It sounds like a lot of work to get them flat, and painting them white may show up some of the imperfections. The kit is only $100, might be worth just painting straight over them how they are and see how it looks?

    Really interesting concept. I was wondering though, if I were to use this on a tiled shower base, how slippery would they get from being painted by this product? Thanks!

    • @TheHandyTech
      @TheHandyTech  6 років тому

      Probably depends on the size of the tiles. If they were small, like my tiles in the video, the grout lines would provide some grip. If they were larger then I reckon the paint would make them a little slippery. In saying that I don't know if I would recommend using this product for floor tiling in a high traffic area like the shower, it would be more suitable for the walls only :)

      Just my 2 cents worth. Purchase a small quantity of fine sand. Paint a thin layer in the shower pan. Sprinkle about ½ to ¾ cup sand in the area and add a bit some paint to seal the sand in-place. That will add a bit of texture to the area. A friend had a vacation home with beautiful tile floors but it became a safety hazard, especially with children and adults consuming alcohol. Between the pool and ocean they were concerned. We painted a stencil on the floor near the French doors, added fine sand and sealed it. We also painted the pool house tile floors and added sand. Very effective.

      Hi Alicia, yes I agree the old tiles are very out of date. I guess you could try a floor covering, probably best to make sure that the tiles are level, do a little research into the application of whatever flooring you choose and make sure to follow the instructions closely. I have never tried putting flooring such as laminate over tiles before but I cant imagine it would be much different than concrete. Anyway, good luck with your tiles

      Hi Todd, I ended up removing it and replacing with new tiles. Keep watching the laundry series to see how it progresses
