This is really beautiful. I've always liked this hymn, and had heard that it had Catholic roots, but I've never heard the full explanation. Even the way it is structured o repeat brings us back to Jesus every time. That's so cool. I liked how the brother sang it at the end-- so lovely.💗

Beautifully said. In summery one can say that it is because she was so free that the Blessed Mother WOULD NOT deny any request of God. Freedom to sin is an oxymoron. To say that a person is free to sin is to say that the person is free to prove he or she is not free.

Hi just goes to show we really don’t have free will until we are in Christ, and thus need a savior to give us what Christ is saying when he says he gives us free will.I think Mary couldn’t have said no because she had perfect free will.Sin is what makes us go against Christ. If Mary was born of sin like us all she could have easily have said no,but she didn’t have that handicap like we do.We only say yes to Christ through his grace. Thanks for the video.

The Blessed Mother is the greatest gift that the Holy Trinity gave to this world in anticipation of the merciful redemption of humanity through Jesus our Savior. Others were created before the stain of original sin but endowed with a free will to choose love for God or selfish desires. Namely the most radiant angel, Satan, and 1/3 angels cast out of heaven. Also Adam and Eve whose Satan convinced his lies were truth! So yes I believe Mary’s fiat was hers which is why Angel Gabriel was sent to ask her what she would choose. Hail Holy Queen 👑😇

I think it is so important to affirm that, like the angels before the rebellion, and Adam and Eve before the Fall, the Blessed Virgin Mary had the option given to her by God to exercise her will, whether to remain in the sinless state by obedience, or to turn away into disobedience. To deny that would be to detract from her humanity, and from the virtue of her obedience. I am sure that she had long before the Annunciation made that definitive choice to remain totally obedient to God, making her response at the Annunciation certain. I came here after hearing someone suggest that she did not really have free will because of her special graces. That troubled me as it seemed to make her an automaton rather than a fully human person with a God-given will to exercise.

Exactly! Even the angels, perfect creatures of God, have free will. As we know because of what the devil did. So to did Adam and Eve, created without original sin, had free will. And Mother Mary too had free will.
Mary chose to exercise her free will to obey God. She was born without original sin, in virtue of the Infinite Merits of Her Son.

It is not to detract her humanity. But to express even greatly the divinity and mercy of God. She was predestinated to be the Mother of God. So God gave her infinitely more grace Such a gift was not given to the angels neither to Adam and Eve. By the fact that she gave Our Lord's human nature, his flesh and enabled His incarnation, she relates herself with the hypostatic order, which is greater than the order of grace, as much as the last is greater than the order of nature by a degree that reaches infinity.

That's right, Dave B. And, I would like to add to the end of your comment: Mary, "full of Grace..."

God still would’ve forced himself in her and she still would’ve given birth to Christ if she said, “no”. She was already the chosen before she was asked, so ultimately, she had no choice.

When your will and God's will is the same then you have perfect peace...Mary was born for her role and her will and God's will are in harmony..therefore she exersized her free will which was to do Gods will...they are the same..inseparable will to complete Gods plan for humanity...as eve turned her will against God's will it took Mary to be obedient to God's will by becomeing one with God's will to even the slate
