From the crunch of grasshoppers to the unique taste of bamboo worms, I explore the bold flavors of Vietnam’s lesser-known delicacies. My adventure takes me to the vibrant Mung Lo market, bustling with local life and exotic finds. The highlight? Savoring ancient tea in Suoi Giang, a brew steeped in history and rich in flavor. This documentary is more than just a culinary exploration; it’s a voyage into the heart of Vietnam’s Hmong culture. Get ready to be amazed by the untold stories and unforgettable tastes of Yen Bai!

The human spirit endures in all environments. I’m Hmong but have been fortunate to be in the USA since ‘76. I’m fascinated with all human cultures. Thank you for sharing your travels.

Người Việt Nam rất thân thiện luôn chào đón các bạn quốc tế đến thăm đất nước và thưởng thức những món ăn ngon nổi tiếng của Việt Nam.
Thanks Andrew for coming to fairytale village. I’ve been recommending this kind of places to several westerners on UA-cam but haven’t seen anyone coming. And there are several of these villages in northern Vietnam.
This is an incredible hour among Hmong people and Vietnam. Thank you!
The photography and commentary are awesome. I feel like I just got back from a Vietnam visit myself.
Hello, from Seattle WA. Your videos continue to impress and take many to places they can only dream of 🎉
I used to eat grasshoppers when I was young in Africa.

The people are really hardworking managing their vast ricefields. But life here should be healthy, no stress , fresh air and no pollution!! I prefer this kind of lifestyle.
Hello Andrew! watching here from the Philippines!❤
Wow thank you for this full documentary about the Hmong people in Vietnam such a simple life that full of hardship and happiness, seeing those exotic foods during harvest season in the rice fields reminded me when i was young back at my village in the Philippines i grow up being raised by both farmer parents and its tough however,i was so lucky to experienced those way of living which molded me to be self independent since young age.Hope i can travel to see that place in the near future those sceneries quite amazing.Kudos to your team Sir❤❤❤Takecare❤❤❤love lots from Vancouver,B.C🇨🇦
Thanks for showing the great culture of Hmong black in Vietnam. Keep up the great videos!❤ Btw i am a Hmong White from USA !

great job man, keep it up!
That place is a paradise
It's worth of the time spent watching this documentary, it's full of content down to its deep rooted culture and delicacies🎉❤❤😊
Omg you are amazingly experienced the way Hmong people are eaten. I do love the Buffalo jerky strips. Its brought up my childhood memories of these type of foods. Thank you Andrw for sharing your experiences of Vietnam
Very nice documentry
Great sharing
New subs here from Philippines..this is beautiful!!!
Bamboo worms are good! I just bought about a kilo of dried bamboo worms from Thailand. They have a creamy taste to them. They really are a luxury food. Its really neat to see how these are actually produced. although, my favorite edible insect is fried, dried sago worms. Its like eating toasted walnuts except creamy.
Beautiful photography. Your Vietnamese is also very good. You catch the intonation, stress of words and pronunciation perfectly. Well done Andrew.
Beautiful documentary ❤thank you 😊
Andrew, first I have to say, I am shocked that you only have 111K Subs. Your videos are great and open our eyes to other cultures. Thank you for trying new things. Second, this video should have been broken into about five videos. I think that would be better for you in UA-cam land. Great video my brother!
The videos are also released separately. Usually the combined edit performs better though.
Hi Andrew. Your videos continue to improve greatly from video to video. I have followed you from the beginning when I learned about you channel from BEFRS and Sonny. Keep up the great work !!! Much love from Houston, Texas.
Thanks Michael, really appreciate the support
THANKS ANDREW!
presentation of vietnam is impressive really enjoyed watching a place to visit
It’s such a gorgeous country…take time to enjoy and do more videos of each place.
One time cleaning up after a tornado had knocked down some Pecan trees, i found some huge grub worms about the size of your finger. On a $20 dare i ate one, surprisingly it was very firm chewing and tasted exactly like a Pecan.. i ate a couple more for free.
How the hell have you so little subs. Your videos are amazing & done in Videography documentary style. Love it ❤
Maybe light heart it & add some bloopers! But yeah great enjoyed v much
Thanks Darren. Appreciate the support. Subs will come, i’m focused on improving the quality and the storytelling 🙏
Thank you for sharing with us your adventure. We really enjoyed your show
❤ the traditional clothes and lifestyle, and the landscapes are stunning, very beautiful
These people seem so lovely and welcoming! I have been to Vietnam, just around Saigon and Dalat. Mostly it was too loud and busy for me so I would love to spend longer and go to the rural communities ❤️
Admiring the topography and understanding why the war was so difficult.
A fascinating look at the beautiful Hmong folk. I have to wonder how much longer societies like this will exist. The world is changing so fast.
When I was a young woman , I desired a quieter, more rural life for my children. Now there not much rural left out here and I have new neighbors all around, technology changes so fast, I too will fall behind with age. I am afraid that with tourism being encouraged these peoples lives will forever be effected.
Avid viewer from Cyprus🤚
Love your videos, keep it up
I have relatives that grow tea in the highlands of Laos. They say the original tree is over 1000 years old.
really enjoying it... nice and cool... very though life, but they've put in uttermost care and effort. takes plenty of hard work. in order to truly understand and look for improvements or wonder why things are done that way, one could try to experience it, but it looks really tough. totally respect them for such a natural lifestyle... top notch. personally I aspire too, but living in modern times and not having much motivated dedicated discipline is so hard. thanks for the documentary...
Andrew, it would be awesome if you explored the culture of our people the "Iu-Mien" people. We have a large population in Vietnam as well as Thailand and Laos! Appreciate you and your open mindedness of other cultures! Awesome videos - forever subbed~
I love your documentaries
I've been all around Vietnam but this place I actually skipped it. I will include this in my itinerary when I return. Thank you for sharing. This is such a beautiful story and beautiful scenery,
Great job!!
love the knowledge
That would be a really cool trip.
You would not survive, little to no electricity, no mcdonald, no running toilet etc...stuff like this make a bully look like an armature nerd lol
Your videos are so raw from a content perspective yet so polished from an editing perspective; love it 😊
Thanks. Appreciate it.
very good movie
Living with the hill tribes and experiencing the way of life, simple life is worth dying for. I could live on forever
Hey Andy, I was looking for some different kinds of side dishes for my Thanksgiving table this year. So little sour apples sauce 🍏 and bamboo worm 🐛 stuffing it is 👍. No Turkey 🦃 either I'm going to get me some water fowl, maybe a blue Heron. Have a Blessed and Beautiful Day ✝️📖✌️💞🙏🥀
I always wanted to know something about the Hmung people's lives.
Thank you for sharing this video with me.🙈🙉🙊 😎 🇺🇸
Thanks Andrew for doing these videos for Americans in the U.S.A.
Trump may like it too
Can I have the details of the traditional background music please? The music at around 0:52.
Can’t remember sorry. but we get all our music on epidemic sound.
It was a wonderful Vid , loved the tea garden , bless the young girl when you sed you prefer coffee ×😂❤× Loved it but wasn't too sure about impaling grass hoppers..Then when I saw the beautiful white Bunnies in the cage ; It nearly killed me; I have a little white Boy Bunny at home; who stands up , like that...just to say "I trust you " x❤x Nothing on this Earth is worth treating a sentient creature like that...x❤x
Been following you since the road trip with Sonny during Covid, now that BEFRS have gone global, it's good your channel still rooted in Vietnam!!
I will still be traveling a lot but I live in Vietnam so expect a lot of Vietnamese content.
@@Andrew_Fraser Came a long way since reviewing gadgets, looking forward for more Vietnam content!

...what kind of watch is that? I used to be quite an hourologist in my own right, but my knowledge has slipped away since I departed the hobby.
Some aspects hint at Seiko, but the bezel throws that part off for me. I hope someone might enlighten me. TIA

Andrew, do a video of the Iu-Mien culture, please. Thank you!
One day for sure
Very Enjoyable.
Please go to the Philippines. I lived there for two years and I would love to see your take on it. If you ever get up to the Papunga area, try everybody's cafe. They have adobo crickets which I have tried. I saw it on Andrew Zimmern's channel.
thank you/❤❤❤❤❤
That country is so beautiful ❤❤❤❤❤
11:11 I guess not melon but rather bitter gourd, snake gourd, calabash sponge gourd etc
To be fair Hmong people tend to eat and sell in the locations they are at
I've lived in Sapa, Lao cai, and Lau chao
Than Northen and Eastern Thailand all places with Hmong people..the food differences were night and day
THe eating dogs is a HUGE HUGE HUGE thing in Vietnamese culture
99% of Vietnamese will say they don't but its just common, Hanoi and Saigon are great places you can find Thit Cho (Dog meat) markets seirously just about any were
Hmong people though are amazing people, i got to live in a Villiage house with a Hmong family for 3 weeks and LOVED it so much, and don't tell no one
But the best Pho i've ever had was made by this random old Hmong lady on a pass though highway to Sapa from Lao cai.....
Just wanted be the first Hmong to comment here😂😂
I cannot express enough my admiration for the great communal love they embody.
The organ music sounded quite Appalachian. Love it
This was a great series, my favorite part was you eating the crunchy frogs.
New subscriber here in Toronto 🇨🇦 but I am a Pilipino 🇵🇭. Nice seeing your video I love it !
I also ate grasshoppers in Mexico - they taste good
I love your videos

The heron's would eat the fish that people farm, so I think it's perfectly fine for them to eat them. A heron ate all the fish out of my dad's fish pond, just imagine if it was relying on that for food.
2:52 Suggestion: show us a map of where you are. Would be helpful if we want to go there.
Hello from México 🇲🇽
Your format is very good... better then Sonny
PS I study psychology and sociology and human facial expressions are huge indicators of how they feel. No matter the language you can read emotion by facial expressions.
"You vill eat ze bugs & you vill be happy"
You know what? - no; I don't think I will.
😕
❤❤❤
Yes, people everywhere are fascinating, particularly culturally. With much distress, I need to say that I believe that dogs ARE G*d in the flesh. There is no animal, including humans, who love so unconditionally and forgive SO easily.
dropping a comment.
Im korean. when I was a child 30 yrs ago, we koreans used to eat cooked grasshopers, but nowdays nobody hardley eat them. becoz they are nearly extinct here. When you start to use peciticide, they'll never come back.
re-upload?
More or less. Im filming for the next few weeks in the Philippines so no time for fresh edits. Re-runs this week and next. Apologies 🙏
Winter? Oh there's winter in Vietnam 😮
It can get very cold in the north
I can watch the forage, gathering process but I cannot watch the cooking eating part. Ellen from central California. I am old and would starve before eating grubs.
I’ve noticed that they don’t speak Hmong at all. There only speaking in Vietnamese. Is this because of your documentation video?
They chat in Hmong when it's just them but switch to Vietnamese if there are Vietnamese folks around. My cameraman and I don't know Hmong, so they typically default to Vietnamese for us. A few of the older Vietnamese Hmong people we ran into can't speak Vietnamese, but that's pretty rare.
@@Andrew_Fraser either ways it’s great to see my Hmong people in Vietnam. Keep the videos coming. I enjoyed your video.
Such a beautiful, country side, simple life, ricevterraces is similar to Banaue rice terraces in the Philippines. They also eat insect😊Love their costumes clothes beautiful❤Thank u Dir for sharing the natural beauty of Vietnam.❤Philippines

Go visit the hmongs in laos they live differently from the hmong vietnamese

@@Andrew_Fraser awesome... majority of the hmongs in America today are the hmongs from laos/ Thailand
Does tea have caffiene?
That's a Google question. Google that to find your answer
If you’re Hmong. No matter what you eat, you’ll need your pepper or spice. Originally Hmong pepper
Grasshoppers can have a parasite that you can catch if you don't cook them well.
kudo for going out of normal city scenes which I found quite boring. Amazing efforts!
😂😝 untuk kulture, tradisi makanan saya tidak pernah tabu.
