  • My Man Dan test the Stiffness of the new 2023 Wilson Pro Staff 97 and compares it to the old Pro Staffs? Did Wilson really bring the old flex back?
Thank you scientist Dan as always.

That last racquet (black). I still have mine. They were made of kevlar, that's why it has the crazy stiffness (kevlar may be directional, the fibers, thus different stiffnesses on the same racquet). They were good / advanced for their time (90s), but not so much now, better materials now. Always felt stiff to me, like hitting with a board.

I loved the 6.1 Classic so much I bought the Six One 100 V14 on a whim. Still figuring out tension and strings but I have been enjoying it so far. I wanted to go heavier with the X or 97 but I have to admit to myself I play much better with the modern lighter 305g frames, now that I'm in my 40s.

@@KarmaticEvolution I have it strung with Luxilon ALU Power 120 @52lbs. I haven't tried any other strings yet but probably will soon. I had a break in period with the setup but I am liking it now, so I would imagine there was some tension loss. I'm thinking about trying 4g Soft next or RPM Blast. My main racket, Head Extreme Tour I have have Hyper G @50lbs which I may also try in the Pro Staff. Let me know what you try.

@@damets Appreciate the information. I just got this recommendation from a guy whose dominating in my local league, mains: AG Kevlar Plus 15L, crosses: AG Ruff Plus 15L both at 25lbs. Coming from gut on the mains and synthetic on the crosses with my Gravity Tour, not sure if I should try it since I hit a flatter style...

Hi, nice video, but the classic and the 85 are players' racquets, weighting from 330 gr on unstrung, and the others are 315 grs unstrung. Different leagues I think. These two should be compared to the RF autograph 340 unstrung version. I hope you do it. And does the RA index usually published refers to the horizontal flex index measured from the grip? I ask because they are all quite below the numbers presented here. Thanks.

Can you guys show the flex on a strung vs. unstrung racquet on this Wilson machine? The RDC machines measure different flexes on strung vs. unstrung racquets. I would assume it would be the same on this machine.

Great video!! Should have done a comparison among different versions of PS85, Chicago, St Vincent, Taiwan, mainland China, and the 2 TW reissued ones...I have a St Vincent and 2 TW 1st reissued in 2011/2012. They feel different. And I have hit with the TW 2nd reissued ones in 2021/2022, they also feel a bit different...

Is the number on the flex test a distance measurement the racket is flexing for a given amount of force being applied. Or is it how much force is required to bend the racket a specific distance? Either way I think it would be better to test the rackets without any grips on it and support the racket by its bare pallet. I would think that the various levels of embedding into the cushion grips that the supports experience as force is applied could alter the readings. A good way test this theory is to test a racket with a cushion grip on then test it again without any grip on. If the readings are different it shows that you should always take the grips off to get a true reading.

So, I actually have two PS 6.1 Classics sitting at my house right now. One, strung with an overgrip, leather undergrip, top guard weighs in at 367 grams. The second, unstrung, no grips/guard weighs 315 grams. I think they're just heavy rackets lol

In the video, I have heard the mention of 5 swing weight points deference between strung and unstrung racket. I believe that is incorrect because the difference between a strung racket and unstrung is 31 to 33 SW points (KG/ CM sq) depending on the string type. I have actually measured this on my Yonex precision Scan machine.( RDC) using a pro staff 97 racket. In the same context, it's worth mentioning that Wilson boasts a 330+ swing weight strung on the new Pro Staff 97 V14 while in fact it is not even near that! it's actually between 317 & 322 strung. The one I've purchased and returned had a SW of 285 unstrung & 217 Strung!!

I saw the new racquet in the store today and it does not look as bad as the images . The problem with this racquet and cx200 tour is that to have a honey colored grip that is similar to the racquet frame , mudies the look . A white grip and black grip distinguishes the frame , unless it is a black frame . The leather looks high quality but literaly smooth and slick .
This new iteration aids you into doing what the previous did , just if you are older or have a short swing , it does that snap to make you think that you did it . The larger but cap helps your hand stay on the racquet and swinging .ore freely . The grip seems to imitate the gasget grip bevel at the end . This a racquet designed now for the general market in the 97 and def 100 and not realy pro .

I love my V13's but yeah, I had to put lead at 3 & 9 to bring up the swing weight. I've measured four different V13 97's and they all had a balance that was too head light. Like way over spec. Whatever they did in the factory to those V13's made them come out way too headlight and that's where the low swingweight came from. IMO.

I’ve evaluated pretty much every racquet including the 2023 six one and x. The current best racquet by far is the 2023 babolat pure aero 100inch, but you have to put 8 grams on 9 and 3 (4grams in each side) and string it with 55 pounds luxilon Alu power. If you try it you’ll be amazed.

It looks like you left a redundant peace of the machine there supporting tha racket from under, so the machine can not bend the rackets perfectly.
Those flex numbers could be wrong. Must be well under 70.

Comparing the one with strings and the other with a placker is sooo much bs. Both in stiffness as swing weight. With that placker in it the wind resistance is a real factor for swing weight. This is pseudo science. Horrible
Such an expensive machine combined with total lack of knowledge is garbage in equals garbage out
The tension of strings have a drastic impact on stiffness as well
