As an observer, the 280 looks like you've been playing with it for years. Everything looks fluid and natural, particularly on the serve and forehand. But only you know best. However, I can tell you from personal experience that the added weight, while desireable, becomes more difficult to maneuver as the calendar pages turn. Best wishes!
It's not about the calendar pages per se, it's your strength levels. If you work out and are lucky enough to be healthy, you can easily maintain your strength throughout the vast majority of your life.
One of the best RF reviews I've seen online, if not the best. A wonderful unbiased review. For the everyday user, the future is the best and then the 01 is more for intermediates. The Pro is truly just for a Pro-esque player
what NTRP level is intermediate? Asking because I’m a noob just started but play almost daily, bought the rf01, then saw this video. I’d like to see when I’ll be good enough for it. TIA
Great review - makes me want to test them all! ) "Milan just came back and hits one ace after another. That sometimes happens when you visit Croatia." I have to go there!! 😂
Excellent review. Many reviews just show the person playing with the racquet and then give some final opinions, many of which are difficult to understand. On your review, the real time play-by-play, stating your opinions as you play, made everything a lot more understandable. I could comprehend better the nuances of each racquet model. Great review, Nico. Looking foreward to more. Have you done other reviews on Wilson racquets, like the Blades or the Ultras? If not, it would be very interesting.
If you don’t love the 300g shift, I quit this channel forever. Hahahhahaha. Good luck. Oh by the way, I tried the Aero98 against the shift. Aero 98 might be 6/10 of Carlos’s problem. What a miserable frame except for the way the throat feels on the FH take back
Love the video! I got the RF 01 and the RF 01 Pro myself to play around and one thing I noticed is that it's worth it to string them a bit lower, the difference in sweet spot size and forgiveness feels significant to me. I initially had Alu Power Rough at 23/22kg and it felt a bit too tight in these.
The RF 01 Future looks amazing in your hands. So much freedom in your shots. It's definitely a front runner with some customization. I recently switched to the Diadem Nova V3 100 from a Tecnifibre Tfight 305 RS and I didn't realize how much my game was being held back by a control frame. I'd love to see you try the Diadem Nova line, they have many different versions. (Including a 285g named the "V3 Team".
Thanks for the information. Rf 320g reminds me of Asian vision Wilson 90 racquets, it was 320g and 9pt HL, also 16*19. And it was so much friendly than 340. Now, it come out again, guess, physics is fixed on 320g 9pL or 340g 12PL,
Lovely review Nikola. I personally use the RF 01 Pro and it is indeed difficult but it is rewarding once you get used to it. The RF 01 Future is my favorite of the line though as it is the most customizable while still retaining the DNA of a player’s frame.
Great review especially the point play analysis. However, it is often very difficult to move from a light racket to a heavier one in such a short timeframe, without a period of mini-tennis or such like to adjust your timing. Without that, heavier rackets will feel clunky and hard to manoeuvre because you have got used to the timing with the lighter one. It's always better to start with the heavy racket, then go lighter.
Nice review! Another way to balance to test is to do the same thing on another day and play it in reverse order. Going from light to heavy always throws my timing off more than going from heavy to light.
Nick very clearly played best with the lightest version, i think because his strokes had the most racquet speed and he does not block or chip the ball much where mass is more useful
Great review, very close to my own experience. From all of the 3 rackets I like the most the regular 300g version. But the 280g Future is so good, it's a joy to use on every day coaching. It's great for easy hitting, feeding and just playing around. But whenever you need more from the racket to play points with juniors, it is there. It plays like a regular 290g-300g racket to be honest but it feels so light and easy to use it blows my mind. At first I didn't like the new RF's, but the more I played with them, the better they got. The Pro version is out of my range. 331 SW is too much. I like 315-320 SW rackets. Thanks for your honest review. 👏
Although I wasn’t a fan of these new RF models, I’ve been with Wilson most of my life and I think they’ve got the best overall feel in the market. I’ve tried every brand out there too. Not even just feel on contact, but feel in hand, which is very important. I am a Blade user but maybe you should try the regular Blade 98 16x19 and the Blade Pro model in both string patterns. The Blade Pro is a completely different mold (H22) but it is almost a hybrid of a Pro Staff and a Blade IMO. Hope this helps, happy hunting!
True comments on the blade here. Started with an Aero, went to Blade, then went to Blade Pro and stuck with it for a few years now. Just demo’d Bababoard Pure Aero 98 vs Shift 300G. Might be shifting away from the blade.
Greetings from Bulgaria, Nick it’s normal that pro version is feeling wired to you because you use power racket like pure drive. The RF is for control and less power and less racket speed :) so far the best review of RF series so far! The other guys just complain because they can’t play with it :)
Hey Nick, I've been following your racquet journey closely and really appreciate you explaining your thought process. It's very interesting to see that you liked the RF 01 Future, even though it's so different from the PD on paper. Same goes with your opinion on the EZONE despite that being so similar to the PD on paper. I looked at some players with similar racquet journeys (Hyper Hammer/PD), and also noticed they don't always switch to another power racquet. Not sure if you're still taking suggestions, I think the Head Radical MP is worth a shot, and is something I've seen players with similar taste switch to. It should have some of the same characteristics you like about the RF. The Extreme Pro/MP might also be a good fit. Also worth considering would be the Solinco Blackout. Lastly, I think it's worth looking at the TFight 300, which should give slightly more feel and control than the X1, which seemed to be your main concern in the previous video.
Milan playing better after his trip- felt he was striking the ball super clean. And great review, Nick. I think it’s important for your watchers to note how flat you hit the ball, so your experience is perhaps less applicable to super spinny Rafa-like players. But I appreciate your honesty with regard to your strengths and physical limitations. I really didn’t predict you’d like the Future the best!
Thanks, Andrew. Yes, the reviews are specific to me. However, I discuss maneuverability. Although I am a flat ball striker, I am able to hit with spin on both sides, underspin, and kick and slice on the serve. I am going to point out whether the test racquets can help with that.
the handle stops where it stops because of the flex point of where the throat start flaring out to the racquet head. if you move that further up, it will change the flexpoint all around.
I can’t wait to put my hands on the RF to test it. Thanks for the review. On a side note, can you tell if a Har-Tru court is more resistant to the action of the wind on the surface compared to a red clay court?
I just got a Blade v9 16x19 and it feels heavenly. My stringer gave me Technifibre NRG2 on the mains at 54 and Solinco Hyper G on the cross at 53. I came from the Blade v2 and the difference in feel is night and day.
Another great rackettest. Just like in the Wilson shift video, you can often tell from your shots which racket plays better for you. You simply see that you hit them better, more stable and they come harder and deeper. Good playtest.
Great review overall. Just one thing missing IMO is to measure the actual specs of the rackets you received as they can be all over the place. It can be the difference between the racket feeling maneuverable and stable or not.
@IntuitiveTennis - I use the KFactor blade 98 18X20 (2008) as my main racket (and love it for its feel and control), and the Blade CV 18X20 as a backup. I have both strung with the Wilson Champion's Choice Duo Tennis String. None of the Blades produced later on have been able to match the KBlade 98 for me. In terms of swing, accelaration through the ball, weight, balance, control will it be hard to adjust to the RF 01 Pro? Also, if the Kbalde has a plowthrough of 4 and the Prostaff has a plowthrough of 10, where would you rate the powthrough of the RF 01 Pro?
Thank you Nick 👏, was looking between the shift 99 L V1 and the future 01 , you have convinced me to go with the future 01 it will help with my arm and swing speed coming from a yonex vcore
Not enough weight will not provide not enough plough through against quality players with heavy balls and it will give more vibrations to your arm due to a lack of momentum.
I play with a shift 300 leaded up to 320g unstrung. Beautiful racquet. Unbelievable serve power. Very very stiff when you hit flat but this means you can string with multifilament. I have my own stringing machine so I just replace the strings every other hit
I think one issue is that when you use the racket lines to play points, you start with the lowest weight. So when you switch to anything heavier, it’s going to feel much less maneuverable and harder to time. If I use my technifibre as the first racket of the day it feels fine. But when I use it after using my head extreme it feels way heavier. Love your videos though. You are a great coach and player!
Nick, I have the Wilson RF 01 Future as well and this is after I've tested between this and the RF 01. You know which one I chose. PS: As other comments, I also feel that you play more naturally with the Future than with the other two. Your strokes look cleaner and more incisive. I think this can go into your 2nd round consideration.
The Pro version has too much of a dence pattern in the center(although 16*19). And the sweet spot is somewhat small. Other than that, it's a very good racket. Great power, control and stability.
Fantastic video. I would always go for the lighter racket and start customising to my liking. You really cannot do this with a 320g (unstrung) racket. The 280g looks nice and gives plenty of room for customisation.
Hi! Could you please post a strung weight comparation between the 3 versions? I demoed 2 racquets that were advertised 280g and 290g unstrung, but had equal strung weight (309g).
love the videos. try the SW102 blade. It was made for someone with a 2 handed backhand and it's an extra long racket. lots of free power. racket is pretty ugly imo, but, i put some tape over the gold in a color that i like and now it's right for me.
Can't wait for you to try Roddick's Shift 99. I personally find it to be a goldilocks stick. I also think based on you historical preferences and your reaction to the RF01 Future the new 2024 BOOM MP could be a good fit as well.
Oh Nick you might want to delay your racquet pick, the new Head Gravity 98 comes out early next year so does the new Ezone 98, I would delay your pick until you try those, I'm sure your pal Jonas AKA Tennis Nerd can get demo versions for you later this year.
Nice video, exactly my problem, I can't demo racquets easily as they will come with different strings and that makes a lot of difference. However, would I suggest, head speed and head extreme for future testing? I found 0 head racquets in your videos, I'm just curious about the opinion, it's what I currently stick now as I can feel that I can swing so fast with head speed 2023 (300g) everything else come natural.
I am sure you know this better than I, but wouldn't it make sense to add weight at 3 and 9 or maybe 2 and 10 to get some stability against twisting while not slowing down the racket as much in terms of added swing weight since the big plus on this racket for you was the ability to swing through? Very nice review and the point play is much appreciated.
Have you tried Dunlop racquets? FX500 or SX300? I really liked the RF01 Pro. As you noticed it has a low launch angle, so one has to be mindful of that. Maybe get the Future and add more weight on the handle. That will make it crazy maneuverable.
Hey Nick, I have a question. I'm an intermediate player and started playing tennis two years ago. I'm thinking about changing my racquet, and on Reddit, people are recommending I get one that's at least 300g, saying I'd outgrow a lighter one. I'm a 77kg male. Is that accurate? I noticed you're playing really well with a 280g racquet. Thanks, Nick, for all the amazing content!
Interesting that you chose the lightest racquet of the series. I'm glad your strokes finally came around with the "future" version at 280 grams. Off the Wilson subject, but I've notice A LOT of pros playing with Yonex now. I'm wondering if you have any experience or thoughts on that?
ive tried at least 50 rackets over the last couple of years and settled on the pro kennex ki10 apparently the original pure drive mould. could be the one?
Fantastic review video Nic. Given your experience with the Pure Drive Plus, how would you compare it with the RF 01 Pro? I tested the RF 01 Pro and found less power coming off my forehand, but far more accuracy and stability from my one-handed backhand.
I've heard that the RF 01 Pro is a magical racket IF you can play with it, but if is the key word because it's extremely demanding so I think it's a frame that a very small number of players will absolutely love and the rest of us won't be able to handle
The future with a leather grip/tail weight and some weight at 3 and 9 might allow you keep the headlight balance and increase torsional stability on the backhand
I have been thinking about this. Fatigue is a problem when the racquet is too heavy. That’s why using them first could be misleading. It happened with the Shift ua-cam.com/video/8yD0HLNldvI/v-deo.htmlsi=DXuW2AUskDBFipUJ
I'm heckling a little here but ... isn't your dominant shoulder behind the non-dominant one on your forehand? I froze a couple of shots at contact to confirm. It's more so when using the Future than later on. A matter of warming up and grooving perhaps. 4:19 and next.
Perhaps the Pro favours a larger backswing+swing - I come from the 6.1 Tour (K-factor) and RF97A (340g) - and I found the Pro a delight to use. Excellent review though!
to anyone finding any pro staff/ rf with little power, remember that it is so head light that you can NOT muscle the ball. hence why federer has such a loose wrist, because he uses the rackets momentum to generate pace. power strings will help but im certain that technique is more important
With your go to being a Babolat PD, the future would be the closest. As you go up in weight with this style of racquet, it just gets much farther in design and style of racquet that you're most comfortable with.
They've always made a light version of the RF for regular people to us. The heavier 'pro' racquets are just too heavy and too stuff for recreational players.
as a long time user of pro staff and RF97, and I even have hit with for extended periods with the shift and aero 98, Pure Strike, and ezone 98 for a while, I was really surprised how much I hated the RF01 Pro. I think it's the worst frame I've hit with in a long time. I went back to my prostaff collection with my tail between my legs, begging them to take me back 😂
Played with the pure strike for a couple of years and always felt it was kind of holding me back in the explosiveness department. Tried my friends Wilson Clash while on holiday and i felt the explosiveness of it, my friend said that i was a different player with his clash vs when i played with the strike. Just got a clash v2 100 and im loving it ❤ You should try it, Nick. Keep up the good work, love your videos.
Seems like Prince is holding Babolat’s hand, leading it into obscurity. Wilson is in a league of its own. There is nothing like hitting a clean shot in the sweet spot of a Wilson.
The grip length like you complained about/pointed out is yet another reason to choose Yonex. Compare grip lengths and you will very quickly see that Yonex is the only one who gives more space for 2h backhand users. I swear that some companies like Wilson makes grip lengths made for 1h backhand users. I would advise not to do 3-4rounds of Overgrip, instead you change the replacement grip and use more of that to build the grip length further up.
@@IntuitiveTennis Yeah I got that. But for the rest of the grip you are using replacement grip + 1 layer of overgrip, right? It won't feel the same with 3-4 layers of overgrip when for the rest of the grip you have a replacement grip beneath the overgrip. Especially not on the RF rackets where the Pro has a real leather grip and the 2 others have the "fake" leather grip replacement grip.
Just got the RF 01 Future 280g. It is beautiful I can feel my forehand better, it is exactly like you hit in the last attempt in the video. Slice is good as well, especially my OHBH is improving. I love it. I use string Alu Element 23kg. Much better than my previous purchase with Blade v9 100. The Blade is only better in Serving. And with the RF I can feel when I touch the ball and also the sound. It is not muted as the blade.
The problem about demoing racquets with the string you use is it adds a lot to the cost. If you demo 15 racquets that costs $500 or more. That's the cost of 2 racquets!
Also, at my local shop, they would charge you to string your string and then charge again to restring with their string if you don’t hit the string they put into it. So $80-90 per demo plus the demo fee.

True
Also if Milan wasn’t causing the racquet to twist in his hands during match play, that is another reason not to be swinging a heavier racquet.

Most racquets have a handle that too short

Nick, I have the Wilson RF 01 Future as well and this is after I've tested between this and the RF 01. You know which one I chose.
PS: As other comments, I also feel that you play more naturally with the Future than with the other two. Your strokes look cleaner and more incisive. I think this can go into your 2nd round consideration.
🔥
The Pro version has too much of a dence pattern in the center(although 16*19). And the sweet spot is somewhat small. Other than that, it's a very good racket. Great power, control and stability.
Fantastic video. I would always go for the lighter racket and start customising to my liking. You really cannot do this with a 320g (unstrung) racket. The 280g looks nice and gives plenty of room for customisation.
Hi! Could you please post a strung weight comparation between the 3 versions?
I demoed 2 racquets that were advertised 280g and 290g unstrung, but had equal strung weight (309g).
Milan was on fire!
🔥
Great review Nick. Thoroughly enjoyed the match play with all 3 rackets.
Glad you enjoyed it
Love the blue sweatshirt. Looks classic
love the videos. try the SW102 blade. It was made for someone with a 2 handed backhand and it's an extra long racket. lots of free power. racket is pretty ugly imo, but, i put some tape over the gold in a color that i like and now it's right for me.
Testing blades soon
Can't wait for you to try Roddick's Shift 99. I personally find it to be a goldilocks stick. I also think based on you historical preferences and your reaction to the RF01 Future the new 2024 BOOM MP could be a good fit as well.
Shift is next
Have you considered the most recent babolat aeros? The head extreme also offers good power and spin.
Not testing B ua-cam.com/video/YhrrJtlgi30/v-deo.htmlsi=bV8kt3IVdohxyrSV
Oh Nick you might want to delay your racquet pick, the new Head Gravity 98 comes out early next year so does the new Ezone 98, I would delay your pick until you try those, I'm sure your pal Jonas AKA Tennis Nerd can get demo versions for you later this year.
Gravity 98? Wow. You got the specs?
Gravity 98 sounds promising, then it might be similar to Head Prestige.

Excellent video and self analysis.
I will test Head racquets for sure
I have a prestige that I use from time to time

I am sure you know this better than I, but wouldn't it make sense to add weight at 3 and 9 or maybe 2 and 10 to get some stability against twisting while not slowing down the racket as much in terms of added swing weight since the big plus on this racket for you was the ability to swing through? Very nice review and the point play is much appreciated.
You are right
Gotta play around w lead tape placement and see what feels best
I’m switching rackets this year 2!! By the way, nice tennis shoes!! (I play with the same!!!)
Have you tried Dunlop racquets? FX500 or SX300?
I really liked the RF01 Pro. As you noticed it has a low launch angle, so one has to be mindful of that. Maybe get the Future and add more weight on the handle. That will make it crazy maneuverable.
Haven’t tried Dunlop yet
Getting old Nick 😉😉😉 I knew it would be the light one - I went through the same process but at my level
Don’t be afraid to go light

Interesting that you chose the lightest racquet of the series. I'm glad your strokes finally came around with the "future" version at 280 grams. Off the Wilson subject, but I've notice A LOT of pros playing with Yonex now. I'm wondering if you have any experience or thoughts on that?
I do have thoughts
Yonex is good

100% sure that you’ll choose the Dunlop FX 500 if you try, Nick.
I will try
ive tried at least 50 rackets over the last couple of years and settled on the pro kennex ki10 apparently the original pure drive mould. could be the one?
Thanks for the in-depth review.
That milan is a menace of a wall 😂 the fact that you easily hit winners with the future is telling.
The pro version needs the Champions choice to be responsive, the weight will counter heavy balls hit at your feet with a half volley from the baseline
Great video Nick! 👍👍👍
Thank you Hans
Unless your committing to a sponsorship, you should try head extreme. It is hard hitting, accurate and comfortable.
I will try
Nick, I'm hoping you can do a forehand/backhand breakdown video for Joao Fonseca? Very impressed by him at Davis Cup.
Great player
Will do
Fantastic review video Nic. Given your experience with the Pure Drive Plus, how would you compare it with the RF 01 Pro? I tested the RF 01 Pro and found less power coming off my forehand, but far more accuracy and stability from my one-handed backhand.
For sure rf pro more muted than PD
I played 3 hours with 300 g R.F. not for me, and I keep playing with my prostaff 97 v13 315g. I bought a new one before I can not find it anymore.
You like v13 than v14?
@@ColdBrew_1 I like black
Great review, very fun watching the live commentary during points
Glad you enjoyed it
I think Milan’s game has improved since some of the early point play videos a while ago. His serve is also looking solid!
Milan is playing more and getting close to his top form. He has been practicing with really good players including Pecotic
2 takeaways: very solid racket line and I need to visit croatia to improve my serve.
🔥
I've heard that the RF 01 Pro is a magical racket IF you can play with it, but if is the key word because it's extremely demanding so I think it's a frame that a very small number of players will absolutely love and the rest of us won't be able to handle
Have hoy tried the tfight ISO 300? It is light, atable, controlled and good spin. I like it alot. Use dampener.
ISO flex and foam filled is good.
Have not tried it yet
The future with a leather grip/tail weight and some weight at 3 and 9 might allow you keep the headlight balance and increase torsional stability on the backhand
Great review! I think you may get better results with heavier ones if you do it before the 280.
I have been thinking about this. Fatigue is a problem when the racquet is too heavy. That’s why using them first could be misleading.
It happened with the Shift
ua-cam.com/video/8yD0HLNldvI/v-deo.htmlsi=DXuW2AUskDBFipUJ
True
What are the shoes at the beginning of the video? Love 'em.

@@IntuitiveTennis Thanks!
I went back to my prostaff collection with my tail between my legs, begging them to take me back 😂
Interesting review, you seemed more at ease with the Future, but with the Pro when you were making the shots you were completely bullying Milan.
I have PS V13 315G with leather grip. Do you think I should go for RF 01 Pro or RF 01 and make some customization?
Nick...in Serbia only kids are playing with 280g. racquet 😢
Speed mp and speed pro? Wilson shift roland garros model is pretty slick too
Hey Nick! you should try the HEAD PRESTIGE MID; 16X19 with 600cm HEADSIZE. STRING IT WITH POLY, AT 35-40! VERY SPINNY and great in SERVE AND VOLLEY.
Not going to test the Prestige
Can’t play with it
I talk about it here

Which racquet you picked now
Played with the pure strike for a couple of years and always felt it was kind of holding me back in the explosiveness department. Tried my friends Wilson Clash while on holiday and i felt the explosiveness of it, my friend said that i was a different player with his clash vs when i played with the strike. Just got a clash v2 100 and im loving it ❤ You should try it, Nick. Keep up the good work, love your videos.
Will try clash for sure. Thank you 🙏
Seems like Prince is holding Babolat’s hand, leading it into obscurity. Wilson is in a league of its own. There is nothing like hitting a clean shot in the sweet spot of a Wilson.
RF future with lead tape...
With 2 or 3 sets to play it seems the only one you Can carry and have fun
The grip length like you complained about/pointed out is yet another reason to choose Yonex. Compare grip lengths and you will very quickly see that Yonex is the only one who gives more space for 2h backhand users. I swear that some companies like Wilson makes grip lengths made for 1h backhand users. I would advise not to do 3-4rounds of Overgrip, instead you change the replacement grip and use more of that to build the grip length further up.
It’s not 3-4 overgrips, it’s one overgrip layered 3-4 times at the end of the handle.
How about trying the Tecnifibre Tempo 298 Iga? 300g unstrung, 71 RA just like your Pure Dr*ve
Will try more technifibres
