      Sherlock Maintenance yeah she wants me to change chimney breast which I have not long done. I’ve got a week off work and she’s looking for jobs for me. But last time I did it I put a strip down the centre then worked round. But doing it starting at the centre I’ll do it with one roll great tip thanks. 👍

    When wrapping round external corner I always start wrapping round from the centre of the wall.as your probably aware almost every corner isnt plumb so starting in the middle helps that little bit better to get it tight as possible without getting any air on the edge.i always ask customer's to get paste the wall .good stuff and very quick to hang with no soaking time

    • @sherlockmaintenance9994
      @sherlockmaintenance9994  4 роки тому

      I definitely agree David that paste to the wall is a god send...And some chimney breast can test your patience, especially in old terraced houses

  • @richard6704
    @richard6704 2 роки тому +1

    It’s best to paste the paper ( not the wall ) on the table before you hang it, because most papers need time to soak before you hang them. Apart from that it’s a decent job.

    Hey there Mark, first of all I want to congratulate you on creating you own UA-cam channel, this is just what Ive been waiting for. Im having our walls replastered (because of damp issues) and I'm now having to redecorate the living room.. we have a large chimney breast with wood burner, so have been wondering how to tackle papering it as a feature wall in the coming weeks?? This has now given me the confidence to go about it the right way.. Oh, Ive just purchased the spreading tool from the Amazon link you gave us.. so bless you for that. I look forward to following you on this new youtube journey. Many thanks from Cornwall :-)

    • @sherlockmaintenance9994
      @sherlockmaintenance9994  4 роки тому +1

      Hey Terry, your message is just what I needed, thank you so much for the support, it means alot. Damp can be such an annoying thing to deal with but I'm glad that you've got it sorted. To help you out some more (which i love) once your walls are all plastered and dry, mist coat them with a 50/50 mix of water and matt emulsion. Use leyland trade white ( i swear by it) do 2 mist coats and wait 30 mins between the 2 coats, then wait a good hour after the second coat. The wall will now be ready for your chosen colour, make sure you do a minimum of 2 coats and go by the paints drying time between coats (which is the key for great results) and it will look spot on! also make sure you mist coat the chimney breast too, this will protect your plaster and help the paper slide into position when hanging it. Thanks again Terry for the message and also using my link. looking forward to helping more in the future ;-)

    Really useful. Thanks .I've only tackled wallpaper once before on a blank wall. I've bought some patterned paper for a feature chimney breast in my daughters bedroom and watching your vid has made it a bit less daunting. I've seen other videos where 2 rolls are used to match up pattern easier and avoid waste. Good idea?

      Thanks Steve for your kind words! Using the two roll method to match the pattern up is also a great idea to avoid waste. Like I said, just take your time , and don't rush, thanks for the support!

    Hey Mark!
    Was just wondering if your wallpapering the walls connecting to the chimney breast with the same patterned wallpaper , is it still best to start from the middle? Or would i start from one end, continue over the chimney breast and finish at the other end? !
    By the way! Amazing job. Very thorough with the instructions and helpful! :)

    • @sherlockmaintenance9994
      @sherlockmaintenance9994  4 роки тому +1

      Hey Txs 94, I would still start from the centre of the Chimney because it is the focal point of the room. Papering the same wall as the chimney breast can be a challenge sometimes because most chimney breast are not totally square. Just take your time.
      Thanks for all the good words Txs 94, good luck with your papering 👍😉

    I'm going to attempt my first chimney breast tomorrow, have u got any tips for ways of cutting out for the sockets?

    • @sherlockmaintenance9994
      @sherlockmaintenance9994  4 роки тому +1

      Hey Caroline 😊 you will do an awesome job! just make sure you take you time and breathe 👍 as for sockets, make sure they are undone from the wall (but still connected) and for safety turn the electric off (stops any worry of electricuting yourself)when smoothing the paper down towards the sockets, push the socket back up against the wall then fold the paper over the edge of the socket face, using a pencil trace the edge of the socket onto the paper as you run the pencil over the paper (if you can understand what I mean) then cut the square out. you should now with a little wiggling about get the paper around the back of the socket, if your struggling just make small diagonal cuts in the corner of the square you have just cut out and that will make it easier. This is the easiest way I can recommend for accurate cuts if your not the most confident at cutting around sockets. Hopefully you can picture what I mean 😉

    Can you roll paste for any paper?

  • @babytt8487
    @babytt8487 4 роки тому

    Hello Mark,
    I’m doing a Painting & Decorating course @ college, my tutor states that the method you use i.e. the corner method is wrong as he wants us to use paper to continue the corner, then get another piece of paper to match up to the first piece.
    Tell me if i’m wrong? But don’t you think his method is a waste of time? Most P&D’s do it your way, when I did it your way last year I found it so much easier. He got me to rip the whole b*$t&rd piece of paper off (excuse my language) and I had to do it his way.
    Any tips on how to do it the way he’s shown us??????

      Baby TT are you talking about the chimney breast corner (external corner) or the corner leading from the chimney breast onto the wall (internal corner)? At the end of the day there is no specific rule but instead experience. The process of things change and it really annoys me when people are stuck in there ways. At the end of the day when it comes to a job you have to weigh up many variables. I will try my best to help you 👍
