Sega Saturn may have struggled in the west, but it was a HIT in its native Japan, even outselling Nintendo 64. There is more to gaming than the west for sure 👍
The sega saturn actually could pull off 3d better that ps1 in some instances. If the saturn had the same 3rd party support that sony did, like squaresoft for instance. Imagine the graphics they could've gotten out of the saturn. I love the saturn but I think alot of its potential wasn't realized. Same goes especially for the dreamcast. Imagine how much further that system could've gone if it had a 2nd joystick and a DVD drive. Sega does love its add-ons and a dvd-drive would've made the dreamcast a true competitor. It would have to be reasonably priced.
😅 you know I had the same experience the first time I played the sega Saturn, a friend went to USA on vacation and bought one and I came to visit at his home and saw the thing for the first time, I didn’t knew a new sega console existed , i had exactly the same thought as you went he was playing Daytona USA and changed to the inside cockpit view it looked so real and the shaking of the cockpit it looked so real I felt I was in the arcade but I was at my friend’s home 😅 that’s a memory I would never forget
House of the Dead on Saturn is kind of like Daytona; looks super rough at first glance but it plays wonderfully. Love the Saturn, play it all the time still.
Right. Even if it was something like the Genesis collection on PSVR, not actually in the game in a VR sense but being in a virtual room playing it on a virtual CRT. I imagine a collection of light gun games but you're in a virtual arcade and the arcade itself can be used as a lobby between game sessions. That'd be so damn cool!
Hell yes, I have like 3-4 light guns for this system, my favorite 2 light gun games are Area 51 and Virtua Cop 2. I remember playing Virtua Cop 2 at home when the system was new, it was like having the cab at home! Still to this day I never take the Saturn to a place that has a CRT without 2 guns and Area 51.
@@theretrobro Yah same I played it a TON in the arcade and thats where I really connected with it. I never had House of the Dead for the Saturn and now it's like a billion dollars lol. Good thing CDr's are like 50c
I'm hare because I just dusted off my Sega Saturn,my light guns and decided to see if it or the gun still works and they do.I think I might collect all the light gun games I can get now.
Feel obligated to leave a comment, since I made a bad joke on twitter! 😂 Bro! You shown me more games on the Saturn that I have ever seen! I wish I known the Saturn had more then 10 games! Hahaha Great video! 💪force
Great video. I agree Saturn has the best light gun games. Except for time crisis and point blank series. I think you undermine the feeling of the 16 bit systems when they first came out. I definitely thought I was geeting an arcade experience playing golden ax and altered beast on genesis and tmnt and street fighter on snes. Remember that Saturn wasnt arcade perfect either. Great topic and video
Oh don't get me wrong. Arcade experience on the genesis was great. I was speaking more from the light gun games perspective. Also the arcade during the genesis era was starting to introduce pre rendered sprites and alot of sprite scaling. Genesis couldn't do that. I think the line was much less blurry for the saturn/32 but era than the 16 bit. But yes still a great experience on the genesis
The Saturn sold only 9.26 Millon consoles. from a commercial perspective it was a total failure. As much as I love the saturn it couldnt compete against Sony the way The genesis competed against the SNES
Thr dreamcast actually sold more consoles than the Saturn in a shorter time span, but the piracy as well as the heavy expense Sega incurred for the online services is why they shelved that.
In my opinion the best lightgun games at saturn still nowdays are just House of the Dead, Policenauts and Scub; the rest of the games are nowdays surpassed by better versions , or where even surpassed back in their time by the Playstation versions.
I grew up playing the Terminator games...in the arcades. ...............and..........I just remember...firing this up...really.....................for the first time..............I was........at the arcade.....SORRY. I just can't with the long pauses.

Yes,the border is up there, because some lightguns have a hard time shooting close to the edges of the screen,so those are basically margins
Nice video. Segas original light gun worked sooooo well. Have a big Toshiba tube tv I'm holding onto just to play light gun games.
I have a 22" currently. a 32+ plus would be amazing for light gun games. thanks for watching

Loving these retrospective vids! 🎉
Thank You Raya! Always appreciate your support!
These games make sense in VR, there should be a VR port

Yeah area 51 I really enjoy as well. Mostly cause I played it in the arcade so much before the saturn release.

Man, I miss sega saturn. I regret selling it years ago. Now it's hard to get, even on ebay in a way.
Nice video bro. One suggestion, you should add timestamps to the video, people love time chapters in videos.
Good idea! Usually once its uploaded YT will auto generate time stamps. just not in the description.
@@theretrobro Adding them to the description will divide the video in chapters, which is easier to navigate.
@@josueperez5381 just added them brother :)

Policenauts for the Sega Saturn also has lightgun compatibility.
I mention it. If I recall
Made it all the way to Death Crimson
Actually, Sega Saturn was fairly successful, at least compared to the Sega Dreamcast.
@@TheLastLineLive Yeah probably. Maybe it's my nostalgia talking. Slightly prefer Saturn's RPG library.
Well I would 100 percent take the saturn over the dreamcast if I had a choice of only 1
Yes before this was sega cd 3do mad dog and crime patrol
In my opinion the best lightgun games at saturn still nowdays are just House of the Dead, Policenauts and Scub; the rest of the games are nowdays surpassed by better versions , or where even surpassed back in their time by the Playstation versions.
Is better than dream cast?
Couldn't hold a candle to, but also happened to be better than.
"Many people would tell you " 😉 but yeah from a retail perspective it couldn't compete....unfortunately
"Virtual" Cop
I swear I'm saying virtua cop lol
