In today's video we're going to learn how to hit your driver dead straight every time.
Golf is what is known as a "side-on" game, which just means that we stand to the side of the object that we're trying to hit... and this is most true with the driver.
This means that the motion needs to be a circle... and where most golfers get into trouble is when they try to control the shot by introducing too many straight lines. The key is to swing in a circle, and to trust that it will produce the straight shot we're looking for.

Zach is the best instructor ever
good demonstratio Bala
Another great video. Good job
Thank you
Zach-this is so convincing. In my mind I follow the straight line logic and it’s penalizing. Why I do this I don’t know. My ice hockey swing you would think would nullify this, but no. My driver goes left low, left straight and left hook. I tried weakening my grip but still left Left LEFT.
Ya unfortunately its really common, I think its human nature to try and make the golf swing straight, in order to make the ball go straight. Seems like it would simplify things but unfortunately not the case.
Zach, I think your explanations of the golf swing are excellent. But I'm wondering whether your comment about moving in a semicircle ignores the role of the hips rotating through so that they end up being square to the target - surely this 'straightens' the path of the clubhead for a short time which means the clubhead does not move in a smooth semicircle (which it would do if the hips did not move towards the target)? Russell
Sorry Russel I know it's hard to believe, but the path of the swing thru the ball should never be straight, and maybe even more of a circle if you add the influence of the Hips rotating thru the ball. Great players like Moe Norman and Lee Trevino have discussed how they "feel" like the club is moving in line with the target for a short period of time at impact, it's simply not the case.
Is it applied to all irons too? Should the divot point straight or point left?
Thank you. So how do you mini.ize sidespin if you are going back & through in a semi circle?
Great question, you would do that by having the path and club face be close to neutral or zero at impact. Think of a revolving door, and how theoretically it is possible to return to square or neutral for a moment at impact, despite the circular motion.
@@ZachAllenGolf okay thanks, I will try
Really enjoy your videos. Try not to say “right” so much😊
Right?
Do as I say..not as I do...
6 minutes talking about swinging on-plane, without hardly mentioning swinging on-plane?😢
Good point however, sometimes when I describe the swing thru the eyes of a swing plane, people still try and move the club in a straight line. So I felt the circle analogy would be more easy to visualize and execute.
