As someone who sunk thousands of hours in GB2 and 3... and was one of the unfortunate schmucks who bought NGB, I can give my synopsis on stuff. GB2: Like you said, it's basically Gundam isekai. You play the new VR game "Gundam Frontier". No real stakes in that one coz it's all virtual. GB3: It's very Gundam Build Fighters, what's nice is it has personal stakes and later on, the MC of this game became his own character, Takuma Nagitsuji, shown in Gundam Breaker Mobile and in Gundam Breaker Battlogue. The story of GB3 is also continued in Gundam Breaker Mobile and the Battlogue anime... and in GB4. NGB: Now I didn't mind the whole "Gunpla school" thing. What I DID mind was the gameplay and holy shit was it bad. Apparently they wanted to be "MOBA" styled, hence the minion rush along with enemy elites in teams of 3. As for WHY we don't get to keep out build during battle? That was apparently the *ahem* "new feature" of NGB. Stealing the enemy's parts. Except that notion was not only useless, but every weapon didn't have the same general moveset like what 2 and 3 did. They also made it so that if you wanted the best stats possible, you were going to look like an absolute clown with a frankenstein build of a Gunpla, essentially killing off the very thing that made GB3 such a fun and replayable game. Also, you becoming Student Council President was because of the heroine route you were on. The game has multiple endings based on which heroine you decided to team up with the most IIRC. Gundam Breaker Mobile: This is actually tied into GB3 in terms of the world building since characters from there also appear here. Same as GB3 in terms of progression, but this time you're a student and a member of the school's Gunpla team. One unique thing about the game is the MC gets his own unique Gunpla as part of the story. One problem I did have is that was exclusively a mobile title and it was a gacha game at that. From what I hear, it's actually quite fair and the gameplay is fun, though it's a bit simpler compared to GB3 and it's very EX skill spammy based on the footage I've seen. Sadly, the game's service ended last year so I dunno if there's any way of even playing it anymore.

Nah the dating sim aspect was so undercooked that the routes for the girls were very cleanly separated so that you would stay on that girl's specific route and no choices you made would affect that AT ALL. NGB was so bad it even failed at being a mediocre dating sim
@@RayShadow278 It doesn't even have dating sim elements, you don't hand her presents, you don't do club stuff (oh wait, Gunpla was the club stuff, whoops) and no real dates until after you finished the route and fought the lame mediocre final boss that can clone himself in 3 XD It basically boiled down to "if you like this girl, keep teaming up with her" and that was it.
You forgot to mention that when NGB released, it went on sale shortly after, while 2nd hand copies of GB3 were being resold higher than regular brand new price. Really hoping GB4 is it.
I bought New Breaker thinking "It can't be that bad can it? Plus it's annoying to get a copy of GB3 right now." I got like two missions in and then quit and jumped through the hoops of ordering GB3. I've got a nice Gundam themed coaster now.
See now, I didn’t go for GB3. I already was playing Mobile on my phone and wanted to try another Breaker game because I saw the Builder parts, something we lacked in GBM and wanted more customization. I played like 2 missions and gave up on the game (I was lucky as I had got the game on like a massive sale, I’m talking the game was $10). When GBM was killed, I turned back to NGB as a builder sim and not as a game, downloading a 100% save file that someone else had made and used it to make a Gundam every now and again.
Honestly, GB2's story was pretty engaging despite me not understanding what the hell was going on. I liked the moment where the bearded guy in the Wing Zero protected the Archangel while doing several references to various Gundams like WZ's last shooting in the TV series, protecting the Archangel like Mu La Flaga in Seed and doing some kind of God Finger at the end. Oh and the song by BACK-ON was pretty fire
Well, considering the timeline of the story. You, the main character, disband the team with Misa after the story to train become a gunpla professional in the US. Because robota isn't around anymore. During the 6 month gap, Misa finds a new partner in Gundam Breaker mobile. Which simultaneously the events of new gundam breaker takes place. Which everyone meets up for a tournament jump starting the beginning of GB4
And if you watch the 6 part Gundam Breaker battlelogue's it kind of hits more home that She is crazy for the Hero of Breaker 3... Who they give a face and name to.
Really enjoyed the style and way you present content and information. It was very in depth and full of attitude. Haven't played any of the breaker games myself but as a fan of the series and gunpla hoping to start with 4 when it comes out!
2:47 ok question, combo extension? there is a tons of extension. Destiny's hand for the movement and the boomerangs on the shoulder, freedom's railgun. not to mention you can even buy stuff like a rocket/grenades and more. My honest comment for you is that explore the game more.
The Main differences between GB and other games down the line is that You have a Long Ranged Mode and A Close Combat mode. (I can't cancel into a blaster rifle to juggle) Dash Attacks werent introduced until GB2 which means there was no boost cancelling. Meaning alot more commitment Which leaves a more rigid and less fluid gameplay. As A smaller channel alot things get cut out or don't make it in the final script because the algorithm is more generous toward us when we keep videos under 15 mins. Thank you for the criticism
I actually really had fun with it. The only things that made me eventually uninstall it were the gacha system and the fact that it ate my phones battery soooo fast, lol.
As someone who bought Breaker 1, skipped 2 and have bought Breaker 3 twice (because getting the DLC was a bit of a pain, so I bought the later Break Edition just for it), New Gundam Breaker was indeed a huge slap in the face. I MIGHT have been able to accept the new breaking mechanics... If the gameplay had remained from 3... But it did not. I think the only reason there are still people playing New Gundam Breaker, is just to play with the customization. I have the shared save file with all parts unlocked... So for people without Breaker 3, or those who like the new kits that were added, building fun custom Gunpla is still great. USING them just fails miserably. Thankfully from the Network tests they have held, it looks to be back on track... Calling it Gundam Breaker 4, instead of New Gundam breaker 2 seems to be the correct choice this time around.
I agree with everything you just said. I would have had no problems with switching weapons or parts out. If it had been done correctly. Them fixing the movement in GB4 would has been making me feel more hopeful for the game.
Tried the GB4 network test, can't get used to the units moving like paper instead of alloy. AC had pushed the bench mark too high. GB4 concepts are really neat, if only the units could move like in GBO2.
You forgot to mention Gundam Battle Gunpla Warfare which eventually was rebranded as Gundam Breaker Mobile. While it did utilize gacha mechanics for parts and AI programs, you still got by pretty well with the parts you unlocked through story mode. It also played well for a mobile game, and it had a story mode with characters that people actually liked enough to allow appearances in Gundam Breaker Battlogue and potentially even the upcoming Gundam Breaker 4 which is more than I can say about New Gundam Breaker. Yeah, I said it. A mobile game with predatory microtransaction systems is still better than New Gundam Breaker.
You're right I should have At least make A note about the game. There was Just no Possible way for me to acutally play the game since it got cancelled last year. I was even looking into emulate it on blustacks. In the Future when I do something like this for other games. I'll definitely make a note or give info about the game. As a Gundam fan it's all about giant robots with awesome battle field but playing gundam breaker is the perfect way to have fun with your favorite Gundam parts

My first oficial Gundam Game in the Steam are Just NGB, oh man that a good game, BUT, all the problems are the problens, also the grind in the end to I build the perfect one with that multiplayer its a SHAME. Next, becouse, here in Brazil Bandai dont release Gundam Like Dragon Ball or other anime game or Tekken, so, I buy EACH gundam Game here, look I HATE SDS, but I buy the: SD Gundam G Generation Cross SD Gundam Battle Aliance, thats a good game, but like NGB too grind game. I play Gundam Battle Operation 2, but, thats a mechanics too gatcha to me. And Gundam Evo, rest in peace, I like hero shooter, I have Dynames and Unicorn I... eu era feliz... (sad Brazillians words). And now: I NEED THIS GB4!

I was prolly one of those three people on NGB when you looked at the analytics. I can shamefully say that I have purchased New Gundam Breaker, at full price. Twice. In my defense, the first time was because I hadn't played GB3. And I thought NGB was good ENOUGH for me to go try and import GB3, at which point, I realized just how bad the game actually was compared to its predecessor. The SECOND time was because I was designing mechs for my tabletop group's new mech campaign, and it was easier to send pictures via NGB on Steam than it was via photo upload to Twitter (which no longer works) and then copying the link. Also, more parts to play with. I am going to enjoy GB4 regardless of whether it's good or bad, because it will continue to be the best system for me to design mechs with. But I can say, it's definitely going to play more like GB3, and that will make a LOT of people happy.
You had me going in the first half lol I had a similar experience I had never played GB yet so My first one experience with New Gundam was okay....Then I look on reddit and people were saying GB3 is the Best I played it and it's what started to open me up import games that were Japan only like super robot wars. Man, I remember being so hyped for New Gundam Breaker. The third game was so much fun, and actually accessible thanks to their being an English version. The graphics looked pretty decent, and it was even coming an exclusive kit. Then the reviews started coming in.... I didn't feel so bad about missing out on the special kit anymore...
Forgot to mention in the video that people should get Break version of Gundam Breaker 3 . Some stores sell that and the basic version for the same price and as someone who almost made that mistake we wouldn't want any newbies missing out on the full experience Now for a hot take: the dating sim was one of the good things about NGB. Hopefully they bring that back in GB 4 in some way
Hi, thanks for your video about the Gundam Breaker series retrospective. I am a PC gamer, and I played all Gundam games on PC, including the new Gundam Breaker, and without even playing GB2 and GB3 before, it felt that bad. I finished it once, explored it a bit, collected parts and made some customized gunpla, but turned out it's too far from my expectation, I was disappointed and didn't want to play it anymore. I already pre-ordered GB4 on Steam, and yesterday I tried to reinstall NGB just to remember how the gameplay was. I can only bear to played it once and uninstalled it right away😂. And now I really have high hopes for GB4

I still stand by the point that GB2 has the *best* story out of all the Breaker games so far, even if I *do* like GB3 and Misa (who apparently has haters) The devs of NGB are the same devs from GB3, and having playing the Network test for GB4, yeah they learned their lesson
As someone whose first Gundam Breaker game was New Gundam Breaker, I admit I had fun with it despite its flaws. That is until I managed to get the English Language version of GB3. Honestly, the only thing NGB had going for it was that people didn't know GB3 existed. If it was just stand alone party game, it would be okay. It just shouldn't be part of the franchise. It was so bad that it went mobile until now.

Story bits aside, Gundam Breaker 2 just had such a great campaign with good mission variety, you had stage gimmicks to worry about like traps, jammers, etc, making for far more engaging battles than 3 and 4 have. I love every GB (except new) but man...I want GB2 style missions back so bad. 3 and 4 campaigns are just kinda braindead in terms of gameplay.
My Saving Grace For GB4 is the Fact I can Mod the game on PC. I currently had a Mod that increases the difficulty by having Enemies attack more frequently. Healing Costs 3 ex bars so you can't spam heals.
GB 4 will be my first true Breaker game, with an exception of Mobile which i feel as simplified version of Breaker game. Well, i also bought NGB for cheap price on sale and using completed save data, just for the sake of satisfying myself with gunpla building. The only somewhat good thing i can say about NGB is the aesthetic, the decent customization and all the waifu, lol. So i'm really excited with GB4, can't wait until next week
Yeah, building Gunpla and customizing was the only decent thing I could say about the game. It's not that I hate the waifu system. It's just Soooo Outta place, and they didn't lean into enough for it to be a decent visual novel. The Remaster of Fates Visual novel game is a good way they could have done something meaningful

i was disapoited whit NGB ,i did pre order the game because finlay it had come to pc i was playing GB3 before i got my ps 4 for that reason only use to play only PC ,so when i got to play the game i was werry disapointed coming from gb3 to ngb what a huge difrence ,so canot wait to play GB4 i did preorder it and i think geting it for the ps4
Great work on the vid! Regarding the gameplay from what you've tried of the network test, would you say 4 is a straight upgrade like mechanically speaking or would you say its more like a sidegrade? Don't care too much about story, I just wanna know if 4 supersedes 3, or if it is different enough gameplay wise to go get it.
After Playing the 2nd Japanese playtest I can definitely say 4 is Much Much Faster Than 3. I would say they are different because alot of Skills from 3 Become Optional Weapons In 4. (They also have a cooldown). Also you can Dual Wield Weapons now. You can also Play as SD gundams now. While I can't say its better than 3 FOR NOW. It's MILES AND I MEAN MILES ahead of NEW Gundam Breaker. So I think it's worth Getting especially if you're a fan of 3 and you're not afraid of change. The Customization is alot better in 4 because you can Resize Parts. So you Could make a Giant Mech or make it smaller adding to build potiental.
The thing I really want to know about this new one and I can't seem to find an answer for it: Is this at least the same in terms of customization options with regards to stuff like Builder Parts (load limits, scaling, cosmetics, abilities and buffs) when compared to GB3? I can easily drop GB3 and get into this one if I know I can take these new scaling options and part asymmetry, plus the new models and end up with something chunkier than GB3: Breaker Edition which I imported about 4 years ago. This seriously looks more varied in stages, the music is less annoying, the menus seem better and properly localized this time and the story... Well, just like all the other ones, I really DGAF about that, never did (skip all the cutscenes, always, never got into this GBF subgenre for Gundam). The diorama stuff is a huge boon for the customization too. I just don't want to get this and end up with something like NGB, which is just inferior to GB3 in features.
GB4 is absolutely a successor to GB3 as if NGB never existed. The option parts and EX abilities don't work quite the same way and can't be spammed the same way, though the ones I spammed were usually a secondary melee weapon anyway and now I can just equip that to the other hand, but it still feels very much like GB3. Also, the customization is already an improvement over GB3, really the same but better.
When it comes to customization of the mechs you actually are able to equip different arms nows. Builder parts are still in the game. In terms of gameplay theres never a reason to never equip two weapons otherwise you lose out on combo potential. The customizer from GB3 in terms of painting is back with some quality of life features. Do I think it plahs better than GB3 no I dont but it has way more in depth customization options which make for a great time doing builds.

I still spend some time with GB3 on Extreme to get all the MG parts, but if GB4 increases my build options and custom features, then I think I'll put it down and get the sequel instead. All I care about in this series is parts farming and creating a line-up of fully exceptional mobile suits with unique combat roles, y'know like a Celestial Being team. That's all I want. I'm glad Bandai Namco went back to formula and dropped this NGB garbage, I don't think anyone asked for a reinvention of the series, just more stuff of what GB3 already did well.

You want stakes? Some crazy mofo in the dlc for 3 decides he wants to ACTUALLY DROP THE SPACE STATION WHERE A GUNPLA TOURNAMENT IS BEING HELD ON THE EARTH. With you in it 'cause.. you beat him or something? idr. But was some real goofy fun. *spoiler warning* especially when all is said and done and you're stuck on the station, only for the 1:1 life size Gundam with actual rockets strapped into it flies up to space to pick you up lmao
Yeah but you know what it felt like a mega man battle network plot that started at the end. I wanted a sense of urgency throughout the entire story. Not the near the final missions of the game. Will wasn't the best villain to carry the game.
Yup.. NGB is pure trash lol. To this day, I can’t get the platinum trophy on my PSN account OR build my own custom Burning Gundam, because both those parts and the trophies I need are locked behind online play XD

I feel the same way, too. GB2 had some wonderful voice acting. Fortunately, it seems like GB4 is tying in with the anime. So by Gunpla Standards, there should be More urgency to the story, though I can tell imma dislike Tao lmao
I still feel cheated with New Gundam Breaker. It was the worst game that I have ever played. I forced myself to just beat the story routes and it's been in the dark corner of my game library as a reminder to me that I should never immediately get a new Gundam game unless I see definitive proof that it is good. I've played GB2 and 3, I'm hoping that 4 will at least blow my mind with what I've seen from the trailer.
You should check out the review we did on GB4 beta tests then. Gb4 is a VAST improvement over New Gundam Breaker it's night and day. It's much faster than 3 and feels more combo focused. It certainly feels like a new game

Thankfully from the Network tests they have held, it looks to be back on track... Calling it Gundam Breaker 4, instead of New Gundam breaker 2 seems to be the correct choice this time around.
I agree with everything you just said. I would have had no problems with switching weapons or parts out. If it had been done correctly. Them fixing the movement in GB4 would has been making me feel more hopeful for the game.
Tried the GB4 network test, can't get used to the units moving like paper instead of alloy. AC had pushed the bench mark too high. GB4 concepts are really neat, if only the units could move like in GBO2.
I think with a combo oriented series like GB. Wouldn't do well with the speed of gundam battle operation 2
You forgot to mention Gundam Battle Gunpla Warfare which eventually was rebranded as Gundam Breaker Mobile. While it did utilize gacha mechanics for parts and AI programs, you still got by pretty well with the parts you unlocked through story mode. It also played well for a mobile game, and it had a story mode with characters that people actually liked enough to allow appearances in Gundam Breaker Battlogue and potentially even the upcoming Gundam Breaker 4 which is more than I can say about New Gundam Breaker.
Yeah, I said it. A mobile game with predatory microtransaction systems is still better than New Gundam Breaker.
You're right I should have At least make A note about the game. There was Just no Possible way for me to acutally play the game since it got cancelled last year. I was even looking into emulate it on blustacks. In the Future when I do something like this for other games. I'll definitely make a note or give info about the game. Popular Theory: They made New Gundam Breaker bad intentionally to drive people to play the cash shop/gacha heavy mobile games and F2P/P2W games.
Well the Mobile game is honestly one of the only reasons GB4 Got approval most likely.
As a Gundam fan it's all about giant robots with awesome battle field but playing gundam breaker is the perfect way to have fun with your favorite Gundam parts

Yeah I think them trying all theses NEW Things but not going beyond surface level and then not getting the original support team to help them really ruined the game

I was prolly one of those three people on NGB when you looked at the analytics. I can shamefully say that I have purchased New Gundam Breaker, at full price. Twice.
In my defense, the first time was because I hadn't played GB3. And I thought NGB was good ENOUGH for me to go try and import GB3, at which point, I realized just how bad the game actually was compared to its predecessor. The SECOND time was because I was designing mechs for my tabletop group's new mech campaign, and it was easier to send pictures via NGB on Steam than it was via photo upload to Twitter (which no longer works) and then copying the link. Also, more parts to play with.
I am going to enjoy GB4 regardless of whether it's good or bad, because it will continue to be the best system for me to design mechs with. But I can say, it's definitely going to play more like GB3, and that will make a LOT of people happy.

Man, I remember being so hyped for New Gundam Breaker. The third game was so much fun, and actually accessible thanks to their being an English version. The graphics looked pretty decent, and it was even coming an exclusive kit. Then the reviews started coming in.... I didn't feel so bad about missing out on the special kit anymore...

Forgot to mention in the video that people should get Break version of Gundam Breaker 3 . Some stores sell that and the basic version for the same price and as someone who almost made that mistake we wouldn't want any newbies missing out on the full experience

I am a PC gamer, and I played all Gundam games on PC, including the new Gundam Breaker, and without even playing GB2 and GB3 before, it felt that bad. I finished it once, explored it a bit, collected parts and made some customized gunpla, but turned out it's too far from my expectation, I was disappointed and didn't want to play it anymore. I already pre-ordered GB4 on Steam, and yesterday I tried to reinstall NGB just to remember how the gameplay was. I can only bear to played it once and uninstalled it right away😂. And now I really have high hopes for GB4

As someone whose first Gundam Breaker game was New Gundam Breaker, I admit I had fun with it despite its flaws. That is until I managed to get the English Language version of GB3. Honestly, the only thing NGB had going for it was that people didn't know GB3 existed. If it was just stand alone party game, it would be okay. It just shouldn't be part of the franchise. It was so bad that it went mobile until now.
Truer words have never been spoken it would have been a "fine" game if it wasn't a Gundam breaker game.

Story bits aside, Gundam Breaker 2 just had such a great campaign with good mission variety, you had stage gimmicks to worry about like traps, jammers, etc, making for far more engaging battles than 3 and 4 have. I love every GB (except new) but man...I want GB2 style missions back so bad. 3 and 4 campaigns are just kinda braindead in terms of gameplay.
My Saving Grace For GB4 is the Fact I can Mod the game on PC. I currently had a Mod that increases the difficulty by having Enemies attack more frequently. Healing Costs 3 ex bars so you can't spam heals.
GB 4 will be my first true Breaker game, with an exception of Mobile which i feel as simplified version of Breaker game. Well, i also bought NGB for cheap price on sale and using completed save data, just for the sake of satisfying myself with gunpla building. The only somewhat good thing i can say about NGB is the aesthetic, the decent customization and all the waifu, lol. So i'm really excited with GB4, can't wait until next week
Yeah, building Gunpla and customizing was the only decent thing I could say about the game. It's not that I hate the waifu system. It's just Soooo Outta place, and they didn't lean into enough for it to be a decent visual novel. The Remaster of Fates Visual novel game is a good way they could have done something meaningful

i was disapoited whit NGB ,i did pre order the game because finlay it had come to pc i was playing GB3 before i got my ps 4 for that reason only use to play only PC ,so when i got to play the game i was werry disapointed coming from gb3 to ngb what a huge difrence ,so canot wait to play GB4 i did preorder it and i think geting it for the ps4

Great work on the vid! Regarding the gameplay from what you've tried of the network test, would you say 4 is a straight upgrade like mechanically speaking or would you say its more like a sidegrade? Don't care too much about story, I just wanna know if 4 supersedes 3, or if it is different enough gameplay wise to go get it.
After Playing the 2nd Japanese playtest I can definitely say 4 is Much Much Faster Than 3. I would say they are different because alot of Skills from 3 Become Optional Weapons In 4. (They also have a cooldown). Also you can Dual Wield Weapons now. You can also Play as SD gundams now. While I can't say its better than 3 FOR NOW. It's MILES AND I MEAN MILES ahead of NEW Gundam Breaker. So I think it's worth Getting especially if you're a fan of 3 and you're not afraid of change. The Customization is alot better in 4 because you can Resize Parts. So you Could make a Giant Mech or make it smaller adding to build potiental.

The thing I really want to know about this new one and I can't seem to find an answer for it: Is this at least the same in terms of customization options with regards to stuff like Builder Parts (load limits, scaling, cosmetics, abilities and buffs) when compared to GB3? I can easily drop GB3 and get into this one if I know I can take these new scaling options and part asymmetry, plus the new models and end up with something chunkier than GB3: Breaker Edition which I imported about 4 years ago. This seriously looks more varied in stages, the music is less annoying, the menus seem better and properly localized this time and the story... Well, just like all the other ones, I really DGAF about that, never did (skip all the cutscenes, always, never got into this GBF subgenre for Gundam). The diorama stuff is a huge boon for the customization too. I just don't want to get this and end up with something like NGB, which is just inferior to GB3 in features.
GB4 is absolutely a successor to GB3 as if NGB never existed. The option parts and EX abilities don't work quite the same way and can't be spammed the same way, though the ones I spammed were usually a secondary melee weapon anyway and now I can just equip that to the other hand, but it still feels very much like GB3. Also, the customization is already an improvement over GB3, really the same but better.
When it comes to customization of the mechs you actually are able to equip different arms nows. Builder parts are still in the game. In terms of gameplay theres never a reason to never equip two weapons otherwise you lose out on combo potential. The customizer from GB3 in terms of painting is back with some quality of life features. Do I think it plahs better than GB3 no I dont but it has way more in depth customization options which make for a great time doing builds.

I still spend some time with GB3 on Extreme to get all the MG parts, but if GB4 increases my build options and custom features, then I think I'll put it down and get the sequel instead. All I care about in this series is parts farming and creating a line-up of fully exceptional mobile suits with unique combat roles, y'know like a Celestial Being team. That's all I want. I'm glad Bandai Namco went back to formula and dropped this NGB garbage, I don't think anyone asked for a reinvention of the series, just more stuff of what GB3 already did well.

@@superhatebros It got a little overwhelmed with mobile currency options towards the end. But great for a mobile title. I was surprised at the level of customizing you could do even if the match gameplay was simplified.

Yeah but you know what it felt like a mega man battle network plot that started at the end. I wanted a sense of urgency throughout the entire story. Not the near the final missions of the game. Will wasn't the best villain to carry the game.

GB2 had the best story i was a disappointed that the rest the story just became build fighters but still had fun except NGB that was trash.

I still feel cheated with New Gundam Breaker. It was the worst game that I have ever played. I forced myself to just beat the story routes and it's been in the dark corner of my game library as a reminder to me that I should never immediately get a new Gundam game unless I see definitive proof that it is good. I've played GB2 and 3, I'm hoping that 4 will at least blow my mind with what I've seen from the trailer.
You should check out the review we did on GB4 beta tests then. Gb4 is a VAST improvement over New Gundam Breaker it's night and day. It's much faster than 3 and feels more combo focused. It certainly feels like a new game
