    I’m a locksmith for 20 years and it was good to me to see you pick that cylinder open. I have to say , 150 bucks is crazy high to make a key to that lock. We do that job for like 40 bucks if you already have the lock off. Well done you did good. Thanks for sharing

      Yeah seems a little steep to me as well. I would have been happy to pay 50 bucks. But glad I ended up doing it instead. Didn't take very much time at all. Appreciate you tuning in. Thanks

      Just swap those locks for solenoids. Then it can be pushing a hidden button to withdraw the bolt.

    You might look into going with a T-5 trans instead of the Toploader. It's a great trans, but, unless you really get a find, it's spendy. Then, you can put some lower gears and a locking diff in. Even if you rebuild the 289 heads with the 2 BBL and a dual exhaust, it'll seem as fast as your later GT. Looking forward to seeing more of all the Mustangs!

    Chris- Stick with the 289 heads. Get a decent valve job and new valves and springs. An aluminum intake and a small 500-600 cfm 4bbl. will really wake up that motor. Also a T-5 transmission would be a good choice (the same trans that is in your Fox body Mustang) if you cant find a cheap 4 speed.

    Leave the 289 as stock as possible, they are goo daily drivers.
    Just do a nice rebuild, nothing fancy, rings, bearings, pumps
    Look for a re-valving kit, with valve. spring. keepers. and rockers
    The two barrel, is good enough as a daily driver, they did it for years.
    I wouldn't bother with a 4 barrel unless you were going to tow a trailer
    If I were considering a carb swap, I'd go for a EFI kit but that pricy

    I think that rollback is probably going to end up being one of the most valuable tools you've gotten in a long time. It's SO nice to not have to trailers something and deal with all that, especially in rain or over a long distance. I'm super happy you got that thing. Also, good call pulling the ladies off the side.. you have one of the best women on the internet Chris!!!

    I would suggest you get the pertronix distributor kit with the electronic ignition built-in and the coil to match. The distributor from pertronix will allow you to use the factory air cleaner assembly. Pertronix starts on 12 volts, runs on 9 volts. You'll have to bypass the resistor wire.

    My opinion, keep the old heads. Leave the Mustang/Rustang as OG as possible. Rebuild is better than replace when you can. Love the Channel Chris!

      Tony & his crew seem super cool and efficient👍🏾
      And .. Peterson could past for your clean shaven twin brother 👀… lol
      As a jazz composer…. I’ll come out of my home studio 50 miles n/e of Chicago to take a break and treat myself to your videos…..
      You’re like a dam neurosurgeon with those cars!!!!… lol
      Somehow….. restoring, and upgrading tangible objects is ….. similar to writing and rewriting pieces of music….
      I could skimp on a tune that sounds ok…… or I can tear the bridge or chorus or verse down and give it the quality makeover it deserves…….
      true…. most won’t know what under that musical “hood”….. but…. Harmonically and aesthetically….. it works 10 times better……!!
      Anyway, as a little side note:
      If I’m not mistaken;
      Lee Iacocca drew the first plans for the Ford Mustang back in 64 when working for Ole Henry Ford…..
      I believe Ford fired him … and rehired him…… ??
      ( don’t quote me..👀 )
      he went on to become President of the company!
      Anyway
      Thanks for the inspiration..
      Hug Gus and Jen for us all…… and…..
      DONT FORGET TO GET SOME GOOD SLEEP….
      it’s very important…..

    I'd be looking for some new valves and reuse the old heads. The 302 heads are okay, but only if you're using higher domed Pistons. The last thing you want to do is lower the compression ratio! Plus, you're not gaining any flow if the intake valves are the same size and ports are the same size. As for turbocharging.. please don't. Also, I could spend all day walking through those old style hardware stores!

    As a teen I worked in my step dad’s locksmith shop. I rebuilt many lock cylinders simply replacing the small keyways instead of fixing a blank key to the cylinder itself. The shop u went to probably had a huge supply of those keyways.
    Thanks again for a great show. I look forward to each video
    The locksmith shop was in Gutenberg NJ. Veterans Locksmith Shop.

      Problem with doing that is that I would have to take the bezel off of all four locks. So I figured it made more sense to just make a key that works for all of them as is. Thanks for tuning in to the show! Appreciate you

      есть более простой способ: можно тасовать шторы местами в личинке замка под существующий ключ, я использовал этот способ много раз )
      новые запчасти уступают качеству старых и поэтому ремонт старья оправдывает себя - старая вещь получает новую жизнь.

    I always enjoy watching your videos Chris. Just something about your mix of cars, family, Gus, etc... Always fun stuff to watch. I'm not a Ford guy but my late father bought a brand new Mustang when they first came out and it had a 289 in it. He loved it. Maybe you could buy some new valves and then have the 289 heads planed, ported and polished and slap them back on that 289 block. I'd probably at least throw some new rings in it while I had it apart, and if I was doing that, I'd probably want to put new rod and main bearings in it. If I do all of that, I'd probably upgrade the cam so it can handle the 4 barrel you are talking about putting on it. Wow did that escalate quickly or what? LOL!!!! PS: I really love that roll back. For someone like you I bet that will come in really handy.

  • @LukesJukes
    @LukesJukes Місяць тому +4

    Recondition the 289, you’ll decrease sale value any other way. Contact COMP CAMS, ask them to sponsor a factory-like cam for the 289 with a slight bit more duration. Get the head and deck surfaced, have hardened seats installed and work in new valves. You and the next owner will thank you later! 🔥

    • @LukesJukes
      @LukesJukes Місяць тому +1

      Oh, naturally replace the collapsed lifters and have new pushrods in with the new cam. That went without saying but I know someone will point this out 😂
