Just bought the DVD from Amazon. Chris Welch, the journalist, was their greatest supporter and pointed out, among other things, that Cream live made the Doors look like Donovan to Dylan.
Lawdy Mama is a blues in the key of A, and it sounds exactly like Strange Brew (actually is the same song with different lyrics), not Outside Woman Blue (this is a blues in the key of E and the riff is slightly different) :)
In my view Clapton's voice is weak. It is not strong enough to sing the blues and it lacks range, especially high notes, in order to create memorable melodies. On the other hand, Jack Bruce had great pipes.
True. But I think he knew that himself. I'm sure I've heard him say he hated his voice and was kind of pushed to the front of the stage. If you've ever seen the footage of singing Strange Brew in black and white.... the one where he's sporting that horrendous bubble perm? Well you can just see how uncomfortable he looks even miming. Though later on he got better, especially in a range that suited him, however small that was. Layla for example.
"The blues is about the struggle between the sexes." I love this quote.
I need to buy this DVD. I need this in my collection...now.

How many hairstyles did Clapton have in his Cream years? He looks different in every clip I see him. The band was around for only three years.
Right off!
did not expected to see the bubble perm hairstyle
Probably better than Sunshine Of Your Love. It's been years since I've sat through that song but will stop to listen to SWLABR.
1:55 wow
