One of the best bands of the last two decades. Live version from KEXP of Blood and Sand is a perfect representation of three hugely talented musicians who are completely in sync.
Yes! They are extremely good at writing space into their songs to suit their live performance. That KEXP performance of Blood and Sand is a perfect example.
of all "stoner rock" bands in the world, you are in for a treat with these guys. So much variety and depth and amazing musicianship. one of the best bands playing today.
I always loved how at one part of the song he says "am i going up" in a lower tone then "am i going down" in a higher tone. Polar opposite to the rest of the way he sings those lines.
By far my absolute favorite band of the last 20 years. Amazing musicians. So many songs you MUST decompose. Charles William All 3 Coyote Woman tracks Diamond When God Comes Back Saturnine & Iron Jaw Elk Blood Heart Harvest Feast Man I can go all day with these guys 😂 Glad you found them! Nashville represent 🤘
Geebz! Desert Rock started in the Palm Desert in the 90's. They used to have generator parties where they would bring their gear out to the middle of the desert with a bunch of generators to power it and just get noisy. They were basically jam sessions at this point where the guests took things and the bands would try and accentuate what their patrons were feeling through music! It evolved into stoner rock which is rooted in blues based phrasings and heavy distortion. Things spiraled out of control after that when someone got their hands on a couple of fuzz and delay pedals and fused it with doom metal. Bands like kyuss, QOTSA, and sleep are some premier desert rock groups. If you want something more sludgey I would recommend electric wizard and monolord will put some hair on your chest
For those that like QOTSA, Here’s a link to Make it Wit Chu from a Desert Session way before QOTSA recorded it on their album. m.ua-cam.com/video/64DTlfBGp2Q/v-deo.html
That square-wavy synth sound is Allan Van Cleave on the Fender Rhodes, super interesting setup, runs it through two delays and at least one overdrive pedal iircc, they used a Mellotron in a few places on this album as well. Please check out more All Them Witches, these guys are so much more than the sum of their parts.
Best pick of stoner rock week. I love ATW. In my top five greatest bands of all time. You seemed to get drawn in a little more with this one. I completly understand.

As a fan of Stoner Rock since it started, right now I can't recommend King Buffalo enough. Their newest album, the Burden of Restlessness, is my top album of 2021. You should give Doom metal a go since you're heading that way. UFOMammut is a great start for psychedelic doom metal. Also, I've been listening to ATW for a long time now and some of my favourites are '41', 'Charles William' and 'Funeral for a Great Drunken Bird'.
This track really is like if Gilmour wrote a river gospel song, I could easily imagine his voice and lead guitar all over it. I easily fall for anything that captures that Floydian essence.
Nailed it. They have a 1971 Fender Rhodes played by Allan Van Cleave, who’d never played a Rhodes before joining the band. Ridiculously talented band who simply can’t make a bad record.
These guys are a gold mine. My favorite band for a couple years now. You can clearly hear all kinds of influences in their work. Pretty fascinating. Just saw them live!
I've not watched the video yet but I am so happy you picked All Them Witches. Probably the best band around right now! Definitely the most varied back catalogue of all the stoner bands.
Very Nice. All Them Witches are great. “Charles William” is probably my favorite by them. I’m glad you decided to perhaps do a stoner rock week each month. It really is an incredible style of music. If you’re going back in to the heavier stuff, a good band to help transition back to it would be High on Fire. A song like Rumors of War or Snakes for the Divine. Anyway thanks for the music this week, a few I knew, a couple I didn’t. It’s been a good ride.
Probably one of the best 5 rock/metal bands on the planet right now. If not the best. They are criminally underrated. Saw them live from 10 feet away in a small venue and it was INCREDIBLE. Super nice guys too. Please do alot more of their stuff. They not only have trippy stuff but also blusey stuff, heavy stuff and much much more. I wouldn't be mad if you did at least one of their songs a week along with Mastodon and Clutch.🤣🤘
A great band and a good song choice from them (although they do have more interesting songs than this one) I can listen to these guys for hours, without even being stoned lol
Thank you Geebz, for turning me onto All Them Witches; I can't get enough of them! I would love to see you react to some more from them. It's almost like hearing them for the first time again & that is a priceless gift! Many thanks, much Love & I look forward to year #2!
I absolutely fell in love with this band after my first encounter with them in 2019 on tour with Gojira. I had heard of the name by seeing it as a recommended on YT but never took the dive. They have so much emotion and diversity in their albums and Its always a journey. One of my favorite things about this band is how reminiscent they sound of The Doors. There are a few songs and live recordings where he fully feels and sounds like Jim Morrison without it feeling like a ripoff. My wife always loves me putting them on despite her not liking most of my music choices, but I always know its a sure shot choice since The Doors is her favorite band. Highly suggest something like "1x1" or "See you next fall" for future reactions.
ATW is unique, even with the Floyd vibe. Nothing As The Ideal, the entire album, is on the level of Dark Side Of The Moon. I couldn't pick one song, but I bet you could.
Had a feeling you would dig stoner rock/metal genre. as you said a lot of it is "listening" music, it so easy to get lost in a lot of the bands. I have a OK stereo in my car and on those shitty days. i like to decompress and cruise down the highway at night while listening to this music. puts me back in the right state of mind. Keep on keeping on.
I am in love with the track ‘41’ off of the latest album, Nothing as the Ideal. But that whole album is fantastic. I love all their albums but they’re so varied and ‘Nothing’ really resonates with me. Anyway, thanks for taking us along on your journey, Geebz. 🙏🏻

Wikipedia is wrong. Stoner rock began in both the East and West Coast during the late 80s. Kyuss and other band in California and Monster Magnet in New Jersey. They both released material in 1989 with Monster Magnet doing two on cassette "Forget About Life, I'm High On Dope" and "I'm Stoned, What Ya Gonna Do About It?", which are up on YT. MM vocalist/writer Dave Wyndorf's influences are early 70s space rock bands Hawkwind (who he saw in concert as a teenager), Captain Beyond and Sir Lord Baltimore, who are known as "The Godfathers Of Stoner Rock."
