X a lent!!!! . I figured out how to play this song out by ear using the open tuning. I tried looking this up on Guitar Tabs and the posted versions were nothing close to this. your video shows me nuance's I missed playing by ear. Thanks a ton. Love this song!!!
Tried this today and it sounds real nice. Just need to tighten up my strumming on the next couple practice days. Mostly a finger picker and need to add strumming to my game, thanks for the video.
GREAT lesson man thank you!

Johnnie Hauptman No problem Johnnie! Glad you enjoyed it! :)
Tack så mycket! Väldigt bra och pedagogisk lektion. =)
page is the best end of
Story
Even with electric guitar and acoustic
Idk if this has been mentioned on here, yet, and i don't feel like reading through tons of comments... but i found the tuning for this (for the record album at least) is c#, f#, c#, f#, a#, c# (from 6th to 1st string).
Basically its the same as what you said, except tuned down one more 1/2 step on each string.
Other than that, great teaching from what I can tell. Was trying to play along with the song on the album and noticed I sounded a bit high.
Thanks.
Thank you so much for this lesson - a typically sweet but simple Pagey riff - Lovely!
No problem MsDormy! I love this song and it sounds amazing to play. Thanks for watching my lesson on it!
Thank you! So much simpler than I thought! :)
+Claudia Wheeler-Rappe No problem Claudia! Yeah it's not bad at all stick with it - Keep Rockin'!

+Joseph Etherton Thanks Joseph! Glad you liked it ;)
Love it x
thanks you!
Thanks! Follow up when you learn the rest of the song please?
Best lesson on this song on youtube
+Glenn McEnroe Thanks Glenn!!! Glad you enjoyed it ;)
Very cool. Page adds a progression at the end. He seems to play the open D, shape one at 2nd fret, then 4th fret, a chord on 5th, and finishes with the cord you show on the 7th. Do you know the fingering for the cord he plays on 5th fret?
Thank you. Just letting you know, on the album, Jimmy actually tuned the guitar down a semitone to an open F#. Also, at 4:28 in the recorded song, would you be able to upload a short tutorial on that part as well? It would be greatly appreciated.
Great job Justin. Donnie here. We had a chat on facebook this week. Just came home tonight with a 70's style strat. The piece of crap I told you about. Is done. Worked on Leyla all night. But will be doing this lesson next. You know how I feel about Jimmy Page. Peace
thank you!!! always wanted to sink my teeth into this tune you rule!!
Ha! Have at it ;) Thanks for watchin' !
just started learning the basics of guitar. this will be my first song I learn. by far in my opinion the most beautiful sounding acoustic song I've heard. love it. thanks for the video.
+Austen Mann I totally agree! Keep rockin' Austen and stick with guitar playing bud! ;)
Did you learn it
@@nixon9346 ha! Did I learn it?! It's been a few years now I've mastered it I feel like now 🤣
@@austenmann6218 yea its not that hard i tried it today i need little more time to master it
@@nixon9346 no once you get in the groove it ain't hard. I found it difficult to sing along and play at the same time though.
A thousand words to describe a 3 chord tune.
you rock
Thanks big time!
+Kyle Owens Sure Kyle! Glad you liked ;)
This is the Live version-people. Great Lesson here
Thank you
Welcome!
THE ENDING?????
Thanks,brow.
Alberto Boaventura No prob!
I like his martin guitar
I'm wondering what this would sound like on my mountain dulcimer. How would I tune it for this? Any insight?
good lesson what are the LAST chords you didn't cover strum-strum-strum-strum-strum then bah ba dee dah dah?
Had an accident quite a few years ago that broke the fingers on my left hand. here it is 20 plus years later and i"m thinking of giving this another try. This G tuning seams to be quite easy on the knuckles. Any other tuning I could try?
Jerry H I know I’m 5 years late but I would try slide guitar with any “open” tuning pretty easy on the fret hand and sounds great!
Excellent! I like the way you teach it. I watch so many that never say anything, they just say it goes like this and play it with no explanation lol. Good job.
Thanks christopher!!! I appreciate the nice comment. Take it easy bud and keep rockin’!
What Martin guitar you playing there and how much is it
I was confused on your description of that 7th fret cord. I kept wanting to put my pointer finger somewhere until I realized what you described as pointer finger on 7th fret A was actually the middle finger and the pointer finger did nothing.
Anyway in the studio recording of the album the open G is dropped to 1/2 tune, I think i've heard.
Yes to an F# tuning, so an open G down a half step.
Can someone please help me out I don't understand they strumming pattern for the chorus please help someone!!
man, i love your iniciate, but please, play all song before, sorry i don't studed english xD
This is a great lesson, but I want to also play the end piece. Can you do a video with the chord progression for the end piece please? I have figure out part of it, but would love it you could show me.....
grainne mellon Sure! I'll consider making a lesson on it in the future, I'm actually retooling my video configuration right now so I have better sound and video but yeah I plan on redoing a ton of the Led Zeppelin lessons. Thanks for the suggestions! Keep watching' I got hundreds of lessons on my channel. Thanks!
No need, lol. I had it sussed out within a few mins 😊 Thanks
Thank you very much! But you forgot the last part of the song!
it's open G Tuning you're referring to as a little bit of a new tuning
Correct tuning: Dflat, Gflat, Dflat, Gflat, Bflat, Dflat
He's showing the live version from Earl's Court 1975 performance.
This is the studio tuning. Live is Open -G
This is the studio tuning. Live is Open -G
It is one step flat .I don't know why he didn't just say that ...
Open g flat ..easy
+kevin martin Still a good lesson
It's not one step flat, that's why. It's an open G tuning.
@Mark Tetu yes that was 5 years ago..I know the error of my ways.. peace ...
it's called open g tuning
what is that blue thing you have on the guitar?
Ronaldo T it's a Snark... Probably the best guitar accessory I've ever bought... check it out - guitarmadeez.com/teachmeguitar/snark-sn-1-tuner-review/
Wonderful beginning, but how do we play the chorus??
super simple bar all the strings at the 3rd fret then slide up to the 7th fret with that same bar across all the strings .you'll hear it
you made that easy. Thanks KSBOB
ksbob Thanks Buddy! More on the way!
um .... this is capoed on 2 using standard tuning and a "E" shape on 1st fret then 6th and 8th over and over. What you did sounds good but does not match what is on the record. Can you explain the vast difference here?
+Jeannine Menger Um...Jimmy Page doesn't use a capo while playing this piece.
No outro?
How about the rest of it.
You forgot the ending?
Tuning: D G D G B d
Cool chords but fell a little short:\
OK never mind it is the tuning you used. The tuning is actually 1/2 step down from what you say. So C# F# C# F# A# C# (E A D g b e) then your fingering is 100% right - thanks sorry to bug you
+Jeannine Menger Ha! No worries Jeannie! Good job figuring it out. Thanks for watchin!
That's not quite the way. Main verse chords and structure are fine but the chorus is not correct. Missing chords and not the correct structure.
Great lesson but you left out an entire section...listen to the song and please show us the rest...
Annnnd just broke a string tuning to D. Misunderstood which way to tune smh.
The outro makes the song, dude. No point in showing us anything if you're going to skip that.
Are you Napoleon Dynamite?
bradh716 No, I'm Uncle Rico
you didnt show the best part of the song - the end...
Incomplete.
Dont like that lesson. Strumming pattern is wrong and the tempo is wrong.
Not correct. Listen to the song!
ahh... youre right.... dude.
MJ Fucking do,it yourself then , ungrateful ass.
I feel like he just skipped the chorus.
Not a complete lesson. NO OUTRO! That's weak.
Your strumming is off
holy shit dude do you think you could figure it out before you teach it or maybe remake the video so we don't get confused because you are figuring it out in the lesson? WTf man?!
i switch off as soon as i hear some dude go "downup downup down" if you don't have enough ears, enough feel to hear how it goes even roughly,, down up downdown aint gunna help ya farga nell....
Hilarious that you’re playing the rhythm completely wrong.
