These are good points.
Most people now in 2012 could figure out how to record their own music one way or another, but that doesn't mean that it's going to be up to the quality standards that the industry demands. I'm not sure if you are referring to us or if TMG is a different company, but companies like ours are a business. We aren't a record label and we typically don't sign artists. Unless you're a well established musician with a lot of fans you need to expect to pay money when you are starting your career as a musician. Hardly anything is free in this world, even if you do get signed to a label you still have to pay them back for their services. Look up the word "recoupment".

A lot of musicians today want a record deal, but they don't even know why or what it entails. We have had plenty of artists sign or get offered a record deal only to find that it wasn't all that it's hyped up to be. If you're a good musician there is no longer any real reason that you can't successfully remain independent and do reasonably well for yourself.
