I switched my square bind (reload, loot, etc...) to the right bumper and the ping to down on the left stick (as I have auto run on) and it is super helpful. Having the ability to look around while picking up items has been the reason I’ve managed to grab things like weapons and armor off landing faster than my opponents could, I’d highly recommend trying it out.
I started playing claw around 2016, it’s so much better than standard. I can couch spam while moving left and right and aim/shoot with accuracy in almost any game including Apex (I’ve practiced for a very long time) and it give you such a HUGE advantage. It’s makes you really hard to hit and win more gunfights. Starting claw it took me like a solid 3-4 day to get half decent at it and for my hand to “conform” to it. It’s feel really, I mean really weird when you first start and your index finger will hurt a little but after a couple days it won’t anymore. I can’t even pick up a controller normal anymore and play good 😂 I would recommend claw to anyone
I would add, whilst fine tuning one's sensitivity, turn off aim аssist. This will show how much one is over correcting during an exchange. Once aim аssist is re-engaged, it'll feel like one is lazering targets. This is also a good way to warm up.
I love how apex is always about adapting to the games movement as well as being versatile. I've been a controller player for 13 years now and there's times I have to come back to these videos to make adjustments to my playstyle as well as tweak my settings for my controller. Keep up the great work man us controller players appreciate this
I definitely needed to hear the tips about looting the boxes and the crouch spam. Lost too many fights because I couldn’t get the armor swap in time or I missed too many crucial shots. Still doing very well, but I definitely need improvements! Thanks for the vid!!
Great list, especially numbers 18 & 20. I try my best to "check myself and the situation" before a shot is fired now. It's helped with my shots actually hitting and the confidence to use weapons I wouldn't normally. And watching my own vids, I've noticed that I tend to over extend myself in fights, giving up cover in order to get a shot in. That, along with going into panic mode when a teammate goes down are my main areas to work on now.
HIPFIRE! YES. I have been practicing it a ton lately because of you. I've gotten so much better and it's been the biggest game changer in 1v2 or 1v3s. I won multiple fights yesterday because of hipfiring, and my dead teammate literally said "Daamn Sooxfar". I'm so glad I spent the time in firing range getting it down.
I have a tip as well. You know when you try to reload on a door and it opens, yeah respawn was kind enough to make a setting to fix that. You can change reaload to hold or change interact to hold
I use right stick to jump, left upper trigger to crouch(on hold), right upper trigger is tactical ability, left stick to ping. These binds are easier then learning claw and have no disadvantages. Right stick jump might cause you to jump while aiming so u can put that on left stick. I use right stick jump for all games and I have used it for 5 years so I have no issues.
This is LITERALLY the first tip video for controller players I’ve seen. I love the other content creators but knowing everyone’s on mnk while I’m trying to learn things for controller has NOT been easy 😑. Thank you sooo much
THANK YOU!!!! Yeah, as someone who is new to modern FPS, none of Apex came naturally to me haha. I remember when I first started I was in awe that people listened to audio to determine where the opponent was. I just had all my sound off because it felt distracting, until I think I asked some random player how they see people, I can't see anyone. And they were like they 'hear" them? Mind blown! Anyway, these tips are helpful. From a complete newbie about a couple months ago, I was able to reach 1 KD on a season for the first time yesterday. I'm so proud of my progress because my first season, it was entertainingly bad ahaha. And I give props to you and Itemp because watching your content honestly made me want to play in S8. Because at first, Apex and the entire concept of battle royale felt repetitive and boring for me that first season (S7) so I stopped playing. But now I play regularly as a hobby! And although I don't have scuf controller on the PS5, I did change all my button layouts so that my thumbs are on the sticks at all time for all movement abilities, or things you need to do while moving, like jumping, crouching, swapping, etc.... Except for using the index finger for the healing thing. I didn't think about that!
I remapped the up and down buttons on my d pad, so down would be to heal cuz i can pop heals without my thumb leaving the left analogue stick, it works pretty well for me personally
This is one of the best videos I've seen of tips and settings. It's amazing how much your channel has improved over the past year. Keep up the good work
Great video!! I'm amazed by the things great players can do. What makes me sad though is that I'll NEVER be able to do these things well because I simply don't have time to practice these things. I want to play for an hour or two per day a couple of times per week, and there simply isn't a place for casual players in Apex. It's sad actually because the game is so fun.
Lemme tell you, as a claw player since ps2, even taking care of your hands you sometimes have some issues with arthritic pain after long gaming sessions when you been team claw for 15+ years
@@NioJPlays I didn’t even know it was called claw back then! It’s naturally how I learned to hold a controller, unsure why I’m just weird like that haha
Thank you! Small things add up and have a large impact when combined. I have been a fan of yours from some time, thanks again for your content and time invested: it has done wonders for the apex community.
I started watching you and rich separately and it’s crazy y’all started playing together. Y’all are my fav. Bro people want your personality come out. Not telling you what to do obv, but I believe letting people see more behind the curtains will help you out but what do I know. Keep killing it

So, one thing I’d like to mention is the punch the air thing. That happens to me only when I weapon switch. I’ve experienced it quite a few times where I’m switching from havoc to something else and the transition is what triggers the melee. My guess is that it’s detecting a trigger pull before the weapon is out and that’s what’s causing the melee. I’m sure that’s a “‘me” problem but I know it happens to a few of my friends as well.
4:08 high sensitivity has the opposite effect. I used to play with high velocity with both meters at max, I got really good at close range lasering but as soon as they were like 20 feet away I would miss every shot or have awful precision
For sure one of the best things that has helped me is watching my games again and seeing how I died every single one (most) was me knocking a guy and rushing full on and getting killed
The pay to win is true. I’m currently saving for the pk skin because for me it more easier to see and land shots with it also, I always use index finger for pressing buttons because we can’t lose that split second of aim
Damn I didn’t even know there were this many levels to to this game lol. I just stand over the box and take my time looking through it, 😂. Come to think of it I have died a bunch of times looting a box.
Thanks bro. Thanks to your advice i was able to get into plat. Grinding for diamond now. And all my friends also want to learn claw now. (Watching your favorite content creator) mine is you bro. PowerA Fusion Pro Wired Xbox Controller has 4 detachable paddles on the back that can be key bound almost instantaneously to any button (even during a game if need be) and has 3 trigger lock settings. It works for XB1 and XSX/S and is usually $80 on Amazon, but is currently on sale for $60
I play standard grip, but I swapped my jump to R1 and crouch to L1. Has made a huge difference in movement and I don't feel like I need paddles like I used to. They'd help, but not as much as before I custom mapped the controls.
I play evolved and ALC controls and can say my movement and aim have improved significantly but the crouch hold I needed and it looks clean that’s how you look so clean.
2 things. In regards to looting, you can crouch and jump if the buttons are bound to a stick. As for the heirloom twirl, you dont need auto sprint. You can simply roll the stick in the top "corners".

On the tip to stop sitting stationary while trying to heal, use the left index around to do it. I find it easier to quickly switch to claw with my left hand, using left index on my LS and my left thumb to heal/ swap heals.
Your list is thorough. I say this because I was going to say the only reason I don’t auto sprint is I want to inspect while running. But you even covered that lmao. I only auto sprint with Wraith so I CAN twirl HER heirloom. Also, hold on crouch is a big one. If you’ve got the paddles/control scheme to make it possible it helps a lot with some gun fights.
I’m new to apex but good looking out on the right joy stick switching too the button. I kept punching and punching and kept dying just cause of that crap.. thanks dude!
I don't have paddles and only play claw when looting, I find having crouch hold to your left analog and jump to your right analog is good, allows you to strafe and crouch without effecting aim, also auto sprint is a must. Also for ease of use I have healing on B/circle so that's when I need a lil claw
Thank you so much man, I've watched this late AF but ima try claw, see how it goes for me And making crock hold instead, that is something that never crossed my mind, but thank you, this is going to help me immensely
