Thanks, at the track my friends n I always say Tires, tires, tires. It's so important. Past weekend I set my first TQ in 2wd SC. And it felt good having other driver stopping in my pits asking what tires I was running.

Jason, Ryan Lutz and I talked for a good 20+ mins at my local track on what tires to run on a muddy surface when outdoor races and mother nature don't get along. He said to always watch the tires on the cars before you coming off the track. If a large pin tire is caking up with mud then you need to go to a smaller pin tire. If a very small pin tire ( like ions ) are coming off the track clean then a slightly larger pin ( hole shot ) should be your best friend. But like you said there is no science to selecting the best one, that's what makes racing fun, am I right?? Great video! I think you did a great job explaining one of the hardest topics in RC racing in under 5 minutes. Keep them coming!!!!! - Ryan

This is great advice. Our track is often muddy in the spring after the snow melts, and people started going to bigger. meatier treads, but small pins that don't cake up are the ticket. Something I found was very counter intuitive.

Wouldn't mind a updated one and maybe like indoor clay track and try a few different clay tires from different companys and see laptimes and tire wear and maybe do the same thing for outdoor.

Great video, as always. Very helpful rules of thumb for tyres.
Would be great to have more like these, so as to have general guidelines or principles for deciding how to approach set-ups.
For instance, things such as springs/ toe/ camber and so-on.
Something that has always baffled me is the range of positions available for locating the ballstuds for the tie rods. eg on the rear hubs or on front camber blocks. Or the various positions on a shock tower for mounting shocks on.
General guidance on how a car's behaviour changes by moving in/out or back/ forward would be great.
Anyhow, keep up the great work. Love watching the videos.

Thanks for the good stuff Jason.Got a related request - how about some comparisons of inserts to go along with this tire comparison? And also, maybe brooding (just a bit of the best) on to both tires and inserts for old school the looser dirt tracks? I know there's got to be a lot of backyard tracks (like mine) that are more dirt, less clay.

I run AKA City Block for broke up outdoor track with rough condition but still works on smoother tracks. For smooth nice tracks AKA Grid Irons rock. My local track can get pretty rough after a hard rain so I absolutely love my City Blocks. AKA in my opinion is the leading developer and manufacturer of rc tires. Prolines seem nice at the track, run by other guys. But the top 5 guys almost always run AKAs.

Cool directions, i hear waht i expected to hear. The rc tyres works exactly like the 1/1 car tyres, and it's natural to work like this.

years ago In the summer we raced indoors on a fairly high grip dirt track 1/10 scale Losi 4wd buggy and 2wd buggy.. I would Glue new tires and rims up.. And after they dryed i would take my buggy out side and do figure 8's for about 2mins to scuff the tires up and then clean them and prep them and let them sit till race time.. I had very good luck doing that.. Idk about it

Thanks for the video!! I run the stunners at my track in my backyard. Loomy with hard pack underneath. They work the best by far so far. I would like to try blockades though.

Tires confuse the heck out of me. Especially at Rick's in Staunton, VA. The track is a smooth concrete / steel. Very simple oval. I feel like I should be running the softest compound possible, but the veterans all run hard tires and manage a ton of grip.

And what size how do I judge? Do I need a wider tier on the rear? So could you please send me some cause I don't know how to size none of them

restore or build and this may be a day late and a dollar short friend but for rough outdoor old school tracks I highly recommend AKA City Blocks in super soft compound.

I have rubber spike-tires on my vintage grasshopper 2 (not for racing, just bashing), has anyone else ever used that kind of tire and can tell me if they have more traction than offroad tires with a real tread or not?
Edit: They're just rubber tires, without foam inserts and the rubber is pretty hard
