I love this movie and I was so excited when I received my copy from Second Sight. They just knocked it out of the park with this set. As you said the artwork is fantastic as is everything that comes in the boxset. Great job on the review Keith!

Fantastic edition Keith and was worth the wait. I will be getting around to watching it soon and for sure that HDR upgraded the picture massively. I wouldn't have expected ther world from the atmos either but will still be a big sound upgrade either way.

This classic is a long time coming but it was well worth the wait. This is a beautiful edition. I remember dubbing Chris Rea's, Road to Hell on this years ago, it was perfect for this movie.
I have to agree with you Gary when you say it's the Perfect movie. It doesn't get much better than this and to see it get the treatment that it got is something very special. Hi Keith, Well it was worth waiting for 😎& Sscond Sight do deliver, at first I wasn’t struck on the newly commissioned artwork but it certainly has grown me, & the colour scheme suits the edition. I’m pleased that we’ve got new extras as part of this release. “The Hitcher” is my fav Rutger Hauer movie period 😎a real shame he passed away a few years ago. One of my fav releases of the year, in my top 10 anyway.
It was definitely worth the wait Carlos. You can see all the love and attention that's gone behind this release whether it's the packaging or the 4K transfer. I remember seeing Rutger Hauer in Blind Fury because I loved him in the Guinness adverts. I went into this blind after seeing those and got the shock of my life! 😂😂😂
I am a huge fan of blind Fury myself and I think that movie is receiving the collector's treatment as well. I'm not sure which label is bringing it out but I will definitely be all over it

KEITH!!! I just got my box set in the mail courtesy of Diabolik DVD and my lord it feels like a watershed moment for me, not just as a collector but as a lifelong fan of The Hitcher. I was a young pup who randomly caught this on HBO 30 yrs ago who shoulda been sleeping and it changed my 9 yr old life forever. And this transfer is STUPID! 🥰 Release of the year! I missed Drive, the Guest, Dawn of the Dead box sets. I did NOT miss Green Room, You're Next, Bittersweet Life box sets so The Hitcher set was an INSTANT no-brainer and the EASIEST $60 I've ever spent 😂

Hello Keith thanks to your live video a couple of weeks ago I managed to pick up sometimes they come back in the Blu-ray DVD media book. It’s a very good copy mate. I never even knew it was Out. I knew the American version was out but it was quite expensive for one film, but this release is really good. Comes with a DVD as well and plus the bonus you can play in fullscreen it’s really good.
I absolutely love that mediabook of sometimes they come back. It's great to own such a nice release for a movie that's very underrated. Great to hear that you picked it up yourself Ryan

Just got the Second Sight set but haven’t opened it. I got the Umbrella release so curious how it stacks up against that one I suspect they used the same transfer because it looked phenomenal. Wish I had gotten the Umbrella box set with the original poster art slipcover.
I completely forgot that umbrella brought out their own edition of the Hitcher. It can't be the same transfer because I'm almost certain the umbrella edition was a Blu-ray. So you are definitely going to be getting a huge upgrade in terms of colour with the 4K release. I really hope you enjoy it

I have an order placed with 2ND for A bittersweet life, You're next & the Hitcher, so my order is slightly delayed for unfortunately a month as a bittersweet has an issue, also ordered Late night with the devil & high tension. I know The Hitcher will be worth the wait & the extra time they've spent working on this much anticipated & highly appreciated release. Messaged with Chris at 2nd praising all the teams hard work on all releases to date & can't wait to see what's next in the pipeline for them.. I was hoping for Doomsday ( & A Bridge too far as it's the 80th anniversary)to go with Dog Soldiers and maybe Decent would be nice from them also. As Shout are doing Doomsday. Trust me Gareth it is definitely going to be worth the wait. All that matters is that you get it in the end. Second sight have really out done themselves with this edition and you can see the amount of love and effort that went behind it. Doomsday would be a fantastic release for second sight. I was going to buy the scream factory release but then I found out the uncut version is only on Blu-ray. It's very disappointing because I am a huge fan of the movie. I probably will still buy it. I really am not bothered with the screenplay, book or art cards for the added cost. I’m happy to pick up the bare bones 4K for £25. Glad SS have done a good job with the transfer 👍🏻
I know a few people that are picking up the standard edition themselves. Me personally I always look for the more definitive version. But at the end of the day it's all to do with the transfer and of course the movie itself. So I think you're going to be very happy when you finally get around to checking it out. Nice one Keith, it's a great set and very good value for what you get but it's a bit pricey for me and I don't need the books. For that reason I have preordered the US 4k edition which has the same 4k master and better artwork, I wasn't keen on all that orange. Take care both of you. Gaz.

@@millerman9991We are all different aren't we. Don't know if you've seen it but I would recommend BLIND FURY. Rutger Hauer is superb in this action flick.Lot's of sword fighting with a dose of comedy and he's blind, hence the title. Absolutely superb film.

To be honest Stephen I'm starting to think that it's not near as popular as we all thought it might be. I'm sure it will sell out in time but something's telling me it's going to take a while
Super thick!! Still yet if only Second Sight came around the idea of including some embossed or debossed details or something of the sort in these awesome but expensive editions... In the end the outer box is just rigid cardboard with a regular texture and a matte finish. Yet again, maybe that's why I am so partial to the Vinegar Syndrome editions.
Normally I would always like to see some sort of debossing or spot glossing when it comes to my releases but not the case with second sight. This is how they do their releases and I would not change a thing. I still think their hands down one of the best Boutique labels out there

There's something very classy about their releases that I absolutely love. Don't get me wrong I'm a huge fan of vinegar syndrome as well. I would love to have more in my collection
It's a nice release keith but I'm sticking with my hd remastered bluray from germany...moneys a bit tight at the moment and with Christmas just found the corner gotta start saving!

I never realised how bad the picture quality was on that German Blu-ray until I seen this 4K release. I know it's a little pricey but it's definitely worth it. You will see for yourself very soon
Do you watch movies in the cinema? I want my transfers as close to film as possible. I don't mind film grain. Films like Alien are better for it as the grain adds mood and atmosphere.
Yeah I go to the cinema and I absolutely do not mind film grain at all. If I'm honest I'd rather to have it fine than heavy. Heavy can be a little distracting sometimes. You will notice it a few times during the Hitcher. Alien looks phenomenal by the way. I cannot fault it
I noticed that Second Sight reused the Momentum DVD commentary tracks from the 2006 release. I wasn't too impressed by the artwork either. I was more impressed by the UK cinema quad artwork that Thorn EMI put out for The Hitcher's 1986 UK release. That would've been stunning wrapped around the box. So, Warner in the US will release The Hitcher on 4K with the original HBO cinema poster. At least someone was thinking.
That's the thing with myself I have that artwork already on other releases and for me I would like something a little different and it's probably why I love this release as much as I do. It's probably why so many people love the artwork on it.
@millerman9991 Are you referring to the Cannon photo image used on the Cannon promo VHS rental release or the classic artwork on the UK quad that did get re-issued on the Warner/Parkfield sell-thru?
I'm talking about the artwork that came out on the VHS release back in the 80s. The Shadow of Rutger Hauer. I think you can see the eyes of C Thomas Howell in the mirror
@millerman9991 Sounds like the US poster artwork that Warner's are using for the US 4K. No. I mean the UK cinema poster artwork. If you ever had the Warner/Parkfield sell thru release, you would remember it well.

To be honest Ryan the other sequels are not particularly all that great even though I would love to see the third one again. But I would be more than happy just to get a standard release for it

Well it was worth waiting for 😎& Sscond Sight do deliver, at first I wasn’t struck on the newly commissioned artwork but it certainly has grown me, & the colour scheme suits the edition.
I’m pleased that we’ve got new extras as part of this release.
“The Hitcher” is my fav Rutger Hauer movie period 😎a real shame he passed away a few years ago.
One of my fav releases of the year, in my top 10 anyway.
It was definitely worth the wait Carlos. You can see all the love and attention that's gone behind this release whether it's the packaging or the 4K transfer. Second sight always deliver with their releases and this is definitely up there was one of their finest. As for the movie itself it's an absolute classic and like I said in the video it'll be the movie that Rutger Hauer will be remembered for and rightly so. great review Keith I just got my 4k yesterday I haven't seen this film since the 80s on vhs I'm watching it tonight all I remember about the film is a bloody finger with c Thomas howl French fries.

I remember seeing Rutger Hauer in Blind Fury because I loved him in the Guinness adverts. I went into this blind after seeing those and got the shock of my life! 😂😂😂
I am a huge fan of blind Fury myself and I think that movie is receiving the collector's treatment as well. I'm not sure which label is bringing it out but I will definitely be all over it

Wow David you are in for a treat when you finally get around to watching it. Its by no means the perfect 4K transfer but take nothing away from it it's still a stunning transfer

KEITH!!! I just got my box set in the mail courtesy of Diabolik DVD and my lord it feels like a watershed moment for me, not just as a collector but as a lifelong fan of The Hitcher. I was a young pup who randomly caught this on HBO 30 yrs ago who shoulda been sleeping and it changed my 9 yr old life forever. And this transfer is STUPID! 🥰 Release of the year! I missed Drive, the Guest, Dawn of the Dead box sets. I did NOT miss Green Room, You're Next, Bittersweet Life box sets so The Hitcher set was an INSTANT no-brainer and the EASIEST $60 I've ever spent 😂
Isn't it amazing that a movie like this can take you right back. Hello Keith thanks to your live video a couple of weeks ago I managed to pick up sometimes they come back in the Blu-ray DVD media book. It’s a very good copy mate. I never even knew it was Out. I knew the American version was out but it was quite expensive for one film, but this release is really good. Comes with a DVD as well and plus the bonus you can play in fullscreen it’s really good.
I absolutely love that mediabook of sometimes they come back. It's great to own such a nice release for a movie that's very underrated. Great to hear that you picked it up yourself Ryan

Just got the Second Sight set but haven’t opened it. I got the Umbrella release so curious how it stacks up against that one I suspect they used the same transfer because it looked phenomenal. Wish I had gotten the Umbrella box set with the original poster art slipcover.
I completely forgot that umbrella brought out their own edition of the Hitcher. It can't be the same transfer because I'm almost certain the umbrella edition was a Blu-ray. So you are definitely going to be getting a huge upgrade in terms of colour with the 4K release. I really hope you enjoy it

I have an order placed with 2ND for A bittersweet life, You're next & the Hitcher, so my order is slightly delayed for unfortunately a month as a bittersweet has an issue, also ordered Late night with the devil & high tension. I know The Hitcher will be worth the wait & the extra time they've spent working on this much anticipated & highly appreciated release. Messaged with Chris at 2nd praising all the teams hard work on all releases to date & can't wait to see what's next in the pipeline for them.. I was hoping for Doomsday ( & A Bridge too far as it's the 80th anniversary)to go with Dog Soldiers and maybe Decent would be nice from them also. As Shout are doing Doomsday. Trust me Gareth it is definitely going to be worth the wait. All that matters is that you get it in the end. Second sight have really out done themselves with this edition and you can see the amount of love and effort that went behind it.
Doomsday would be a fantastic release for second sight. I was going to buy the scream factory release but then I found out the uncut version is only on Blu-ray. It's very disappointing because I am a huge fan of the movie. I probably will still buy it. Scream factory really have to stop doing that. But thank you as always Gareth for stopping by. I have also stated that although this isn't a perfect 4k upgrade, it is the best this movie has ever looked and it is a superb boxset.

Great review 👍🏻👍🏻 I watched an early release video of this edition a couple of weeks ago and decided to cancel my pre-order. I really am not bothered with the screenplay, book or art cards for the added cost. I’m happy to pick up the bare bones 4K for £25. Glad SS have done a good job with the transfer 👍🏻
I know a few people that are picking up the standard edition themselves. Me personally I always look for the more definitive version. But at the end of the day it's all to do with the transfer and of course the movie itself. So I think you're going to be very happy when you finally get around to checking it out. Like I said in the video Jimmy it's by no means the perfect 4K transfer but it's hands down the best it's ever looked and I couldn't be happier with the results. As for the edition itself it doesn't get much better. Thank you for checking it out

Nice one Keith, it's a great set and very good value for what you get but it's a bit pricey for me and I don't need the books. For that reason I have preordered the US 4k edition which has the same 4k master and better artwork, I wasn't keen on all that orange. Take care both of you. Gaz.
I have to tell you Gary I strongly disagree with you when it comes to the artwork looking better on the American release. I think the artwork throughout this entire edition captures the vibe of the movie perfectly and I couldn't be happier with the results. Like I said in the video hands down the most definitive version to own of The Hitcher and I can't believe I finally have it in my hands. It's been a long time coming
@@millerman9991We are all different aren't we. Don't know if you've seen it but I would recommend BLIND FURY. Rutger Hauer is superb in this action flick.Lot's of sword fighting with a dose of comedy and he's blind, hence the title. Absolutely superb film.

I’ve never even seen the trailer for this film. I was aware of the film,but it passed me by. I guess I was more interested in other films of the time.

Super thick!! Still yet if only Second Sight came around the idea of including some embossed or debossed details or something of the sort in these awesome but expensive editions... In the end the outer box is just rigid cardboard with a regular texture and a matte finish.
Yet again, maybe that's why I am so partial to the Vinegar Syndrome editions.
Normally I would always like to see some sort of debossing or spot glossing when it comes to my releases but not the case with second sight. This is how they do their releases and I would not change a thing. I still think their hands down one of the best Boutique labels out there

There's something very classy about their releases that I absolutely love. Don't get me wrong I'm a huge fan of vinegar syndrome as well. I would love to have more in my collection
It's a nice release keith but I'm sticking with my hd remastered bluray from germany...moneys a bit tight at the moment and with Christmas just found the corner gotta start saving!

I have that same German blu ray, I just got the 4K yesterday in the mail. It was a bit pricey though.
I never realised how bad the picture quality was on that German Blu-ray until I seen this 4K release. I know it's a little pricey but it's definitely worth it. You will see for yourself very soon

Do you watch movies in the cinema? I want my transfers as close to film as possible. I don't mind film grain. Films like Alien are better for it as the grain adds mood and atmosphere.
Yeah I go to the cinema and I absolutely do not mind film grain at all. If I'm honest I'd rather to have it fine than heavy. Heavy can be a little distracting sometimes. You will notice it a few times during the Hitcher. Alien looks phenomenal by the way. I cannot fault it

I noticed that Second Sight reused the Momentum DVD commentary tracks from the 2006 release. I wasn't too impressed by the artwork either. I was more impressed by the UK cinema quad artwork that Thorn EMI put out for The Hitcher's 1986 UK release. That would've been stunning wrapped around the box. So, Warner in the US will release The Hitcher on 4K with the original HBO cinema poster. At least someone was thinking.
That's the thing with myself I have that artwork already on other releases and for me I would like something a little different and it's probably why I love this release as much as I do. It's probably why so many people love the artwork on it.
@millerman9991 Are you referring to the Cannon photo image used on the Cannon promo VHS rental release or the classic artwork on the UK quad that did get re-issued on the Warner/Parkfield sell-thru?
I'm talking about the artwork that came out on the VHS release back in the 80s. The Shadow of Rutger Hauer. I think you can see the eyes of C Thomas Howell in the mirror
@millerman9991 Sounds like the US poster artwork that Warner's are using for the US 4K. No. I mean the UK cinema poster artwork. If you ever had the Warner/Parkfield sell thru release, you would remember it well.

To be honest Ryan the other sequels are not particularly all that great even though I would love to see the third one again. But I would be more than happy just to get a standard release for it
